The Old Dyes...
Jenn
I miss the old dyes. Alot. The new ones look like shit - they have this smeared, opaque glossiness to them that just gets rid of all detail. I also miss being able to store dye combos, and I miss how the old dyes look better mixed.
Bring back the old dyes, but keep the dye preview window!
Please?
I'd only reject my idea if it took enormous amounts of work for anet, because this isn't critical... just nice ^_^
(I tried finding another thread regarding this, but search results turned up empty Oo.)
Proofs that new dye washes out pretty detail!

Shortly after nightfall's release with the new dye sistem, i made a suggestion for this on a different forum. I got someone from ANet to respond, and they said "it isn't possible to revert back to the same old dyes". Now i don't know if they were just bluffing on that or not, but if it's impossible to do a total revert, then at least do another dye update that's similar to the old ones!

Voted - Bring back the old dyes!
Old dye colors were very nice, there are some colors I can't reproduce with the current system, also that armor Illfated has shown is one of my fav, I would buy it if the dye colors weren't ruined on it.
The game went through so many changes that we can call it Frankenstein Wars, I highly doubt they can't bring the old dyes back.
The usual 2 cents from a grumpy player

can you post a picture that isnt black. black dye has always killed all the detail of the armor...

They don't necessarily need to bring back the old dye colors, but they probably should fix how some shading was changed, because some things just look bad now.
Dr.Jones
i like the new dyes though i would like to see the detail of the old ones return and same with the colors. i would also like to point out that black dye isnt everything.

Also, using the phrase QQ more than once in a post should be a bannable offense.
Personally, I don't think the Anet employee that said its not possible anymore was lying, and I also don't think it's that much of a game-breaker.

Keep vibrancy of new, but bring back dye remover and the detail if the old.
I'd also like all armours to dye the same with the same colour. That way we could mix and match armours without the colour combos looking retarded.

It's too late. What if somebody likes a particular color/detail of the NEW system. If you revert back to the old system, you just create the same problem all over again, people who have stuff dyed under the old system and will want it back will be unable to.
So, even though I prefer the old system, getting rid of the current system won't really help. It will still create the same problem.

i think that the new dye is vibrant but it doesn't allow details to show like the old one did. i still like the old dye better

Whatever they do, the Dye system must be fixed. The current system has many issues:
- There are a lot of weapons that were dyable and no longer are, like the Clockwork staff.
- When you add 2 or more dyes, the base color of the texture gets mixed with the dyes and messes up the result: Silver+Gray+Necro armor: Dark green instead of Pale gray. Yellow+Silver+Ele armor: Khaki instead of Gold, you need to add GREEN to get gold.
And the thing goes on and on.

Well I wasn't into the game until the new dye system was released, but I can see your point. I've seen some people with armor that is still dyed from the old system and I must say that it does look better. And what's with the female mesmer Asuran armor? You dye it red and it turns orange. That's not right.
Yes, I agree that they should bring the old dye system back, but definately keep the dye preview window as that is a big help and is a money-saver in the end. If they don't want to add it for Guild Wars then perhaps for Gulid Wars 2. A new game doesn't have to mean a completely new dye system.
Wow I wouldn't think it would be impossible to revert back but I know nothing about that sort of thing. But I do agree that there should be another dye update that's similar to the old ones if they can't revert.
Now, as for the people who like the current dye system, that leads to another idea - have two different dye sets, one like the old one and one of the current ones. That way the people who liked the old dyes can use them, and the people who prefer the new dyes can use them. That way everyone's happy. This would probably be better for Guild Wars 2 though. Or use the old system for Guild Wars 2 with the dye preview window.
Oh, and I forgot to mention, I am in favor of all dyes having the same effect on all armor. That way you can check one dye guide and know what it would look like on your armor even if it's a different profession or gender. And it would be easier to mix and match armors, which many people like to do.

I miss the old dyes and dye remover especially.
Dye remover made the prettiest light colors.

The new Black dye is simply horrible, as it simply becomes a shader versus a true "color".
The new Red dye also isn't anywhere near as bright as the old Red dye, which hurts many of the color combinations out there.

You have my vote; as long as the dye preview window is not getting axed.
(The dye preview already allowed me to get much more exotic combo's than any older system allowed.)

Bring back both:
*Old dyes (especially Black was soooo much better, also old Silver was much better, now both are impossible to reproduce on most armors)
*and the good old mixing engine that determines the effect of a dye mix (current one is terribly bugged)
Just keep the preview window, it's the only good thing that came out of that update.

If i try to dye my mesmer kurzick 15k aror yellow i can't get anything that looks even close to a bright yellow.
Or if i want a dark blue even blue +3*black wont do the job... it just looks grey and dull
Shadowmoon
i really do miss dye remover, my fvorite dye combo was purple-blue-yellow-dye remover, best necro blood red in game. i've tryed reproducing it with red with black and other combo, never gotten close.

bring back dye remover!!
and 2 black dyes DO NOT make blue really....if I add black to a mix its SHOULD make it darker ---not lighter, whoever came up with that should have to go to art school and relearn ....or better yet take some classes in paint mixing and see what REALLY happens....

The difference between old dye and new dye is coverage. Old black, for instance, showed more detail - but it was also impossible to dye anything actually black, old black was dark gray. Pretty much the same was true for any "pure" color.
Personally I like the ability to be able to dye an armor actually black or red, not gray or rust.
I wouldn't be opposed to bringing back the old colors in addition to the new ones, but I wouldn't want them to replace the new ones. So I'm voting 'no'.

I would like to see the old dyes back in the game but only if it were in conjunction with keeping the current preview window.
FF_Timmeh
if u wanna see more details just mix black and silver.
the new black is REALLY deep black and its as good as it is.

It was great to get the preview window but it was very lame to destroy the old system at the same time. We lost a lot of color combos.
