Alt + direction key = auto run now?
Djinn Effer
I've been gone 7 months or so, and now it seems that holding down alt and hitting a directional key (e.g. wasdqec) will make my character start auto running in that direction. I don't know if this is intended, but it is amazingly frustrating.
I don't know if this is supposed to be a "feature" or if it's a bug, but either way I need a way to make this crap stop, it's starting to get detrimental to my gameplay at this point.
When I asked tech support, they said: "We double checked the game and it is not set up to do this on it's own so we think something maybe going screwy on your installation of the game."
I checked "Movement: Automatic Run," and it's the default "R" key; so, that isn't the issue.
Steps to reproduce the issue:
1. Hold down w.
2. Hold down alt (I am using left alt) for a few seconds.
3. Release w.
4. Now you have reproduced this problem. You may release alt, or continue to hold it down. The running will continue until w is pressed again.
This is repeatable with any directional key. If you hold down d, hit alt, then let off d, followed by letting off alt then your character will spin until you hit d again.
Now, to make matters worse...W + z + alt = view and controls stuck in reverse, and as far as I can tell I have to do alt+z to get it undone, simply hitting z or w won't fix it; it's very strange... It seems though that it being stuck and having to hold down alt+z to get it undone I've only been able to reproduce in PvP, and have yet to get it done in a PvE outpost -- I can simply hit z & w there and it's fixed. Very odd...
Anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

Interesting... I have also found a something that's bugging me and still I dunno how to trigger it... basicaly when I do some clicking with mouse the cursor is removed from screen and when I move it the whole in-game camera is moving and I have to click left button to show the cursor and evrything is ok then

Is it possible that you have activated the StickyKeys function in Windows? Control Panel->Accessibility Options under the Keyboard tab. Worth a look, it happened to me once before in another game.

I cannot reproduce it. I hold W then L. Alt (W + L. Alt together) and release W while holding down Alt, my character just stops.

See if your default settings are changed.

i seems to auto run in different ways sometimes but i dunno if its because alt+directional keys

I too hd some problems where my cursor dissapeared and the mouse controlled the camera direction. I was unable to type anything in chat during that time. (not funny when you want to answer someone)

Well, I know my default settings are changed.
j = guild
g = skill 7
v = skill 8
b = target nearest item
; = observer
But, none of those should really affect that. I mean, I was gone 7 months, I didn't change settings or uninstall while I was gone; so, nothing really should have changed on my end.

if you have the cd just reinstall the game - it will likely solve the problem

Nope. I just tested it. Alt + cursor keys =/= auto run. But the effect of trying one cursor key after the other with a full party of H/H was quite the comical sight.

I can't reproduce either of theses problems. Not the w+alt thing, or the mouse thing. They both would seem to be the result of some sort of "sticky keys" type thing (not necessarily from Windows - maybe a mouse or keyboard driver). Btw, even if "Sticky keys" is not enabled, you can still turn it on by pressing Shift 5 times - check the settings under Sticky Keys to see what options may have been set.

Oh and in an interesting twist of things... my space bar doesn't work for moving to a target or for calling a target. Ugg...
I tried resetting my controls to default, and that didn't fix it. I suppose I'll have to end up reinstalling.

I ended up just replacing the keyboard.

Well, a key can't really be sticking if it isn't working to control the game period but works absolutely fine for typing.

Re-image your gw.dat file and see if that fixes it, although I doubt it will. If not, then the keyboard is the next thing to look at.

Delete gw.dat and run under -image over night, yes? I'll let you know how it goes.
Edit: Nope, still happens. Deleted gw.dat, ran gw under -image, and got the full 3.55gb fresh, and it's still occurring.

If you have a programmable keyboard don't ask me why but some times the keys go fubar. I have issues with only one key. Easy to fix reduce GW to desktop and then max it back. (all other programs are fine with this key)
Note sure if it lag or not but just recently I have had major lag issues with my programmable keyboard. Basic pick up or target etc... (again the keyboard is fine for other things)

I've had the same keyboard since alpha, it's not that. I've even updated keyboard drivers.
I think it might be my RAM somehow; because, instead of my usual 4GB I had in 3GB, so I took out two 512MB cards and put back in the two 1GB, and somehow that made it so I can call targets now: ctrl+space, ctrl+shift+space. Before I couldn't, it'd just do nothing. Had to ctrl+double click people to call.
But anywho, the major issue is still happening. The auto run when hitting alt thingy.
Anet's support is more than useless. They just told me to update to SP3, which sucks, told me to uninstall my battery backup (so my computer can turn off and fry when the power flickers, great advice really) and told me to update my video drivers. How often is it ever the video drivers..? Heck, I've known updating to cause issues sometimes...
Anywho, I really think it's the RAM since I changed it around and it fixed part of the issue, so I'll try switching it around to what I had a year ago here in a bit later today, and see if that fixes it; then if it does, then I'll know to get an RMA from Crucial and get different RAM.

Have you tried running memtest to see if your ram is faulty?
