problem with livia
Bob Grunter
My Livia wields a staff and has no touch skills what-so-ever but she insists on running up to targets and casting her spells directly in front of them. Has anyone else had this problem with her? i havent noticed it in any other heroes
Keekles
Did you give her any pbaoes? Heroes will run into cast those. Example: [aftershock][signet of agony][frozen burst]

no, she is my ss for the triple necro vanquish

Is she set on aggressive? Or on the shield? I always leave my heroes on the shield setting, otherwise they seem to think they are invincible and do stupid things.
Are you using the generic build that was posted, or have you made any custom changes?

Maybe... you gave her a melee weapon?

If your main is a warrior or another frontliner, it is possible that the hero AI has mistaken your movement as generic movement and has run towards you because of that. Although this doesn't really match your description, the only other option I can think of are simply bad AI.
Mortal Amongst Mere Gods
Yeah, my main is a warrior, and I ahve the exact same problem. Livia to the rescue! She likes to think she can take anything, and as a result, is always the first to die, which has led to hench monks trying to res her, and then a full wipe.

Are you using the Spacebar or calling targets when you approach enemies, or do you first run up to them? I haven't experience this, but I do usually make sure my H/H know that I'm running towards a group with the intent to fight, rather than just leading them forward.

Call your targets if you still have to run a few meters, because the h/h will see it as moving to another location, and thus catch up with you.

Me and my guildy run Master as the Curser in Sabway.
He does the exact same thing. It's the AI. (I am guessing that it's because of Jagged/Death Nova that we only see that kind of behavior in the Curser and not in the MM also.) glacialphoenix
It's the AI - I'm permanently pre-protting Olias because he does the exact same thing - and yes, he's my Curse necro. Only reason why he runs back is because he's also a BRbot, I think - because the moment he's done BRing, he runs back up.

Can't say I've had the issue, but my AI are always flagged just past the back of my aggro bubble.

Same here ^^
Draikin
You should show us the entire build, there might be other skills causing this behavior.

Actually heroes with melee weapons have the smallest aggro radius, meaning they need to be the closest to a called or "space bar locked" target before they'll actually attack. If you use space bar to run up to a certain target and stop before reaching that target's aggro radius, this behavior can cause your casters to attack the target while your warriors are still standing still next to you. ArenaNet is looking into this particular issue to see if it can be resolved.

i had the same problem with livia so i switched her to n/rt and now she kicks butt. btw did u make sure u set her to avoid combat?
livia = healer olias = mm master of whispers = ss Teutonic Paladin
Your necro will not use SoLS in avoid combat.
Fire The Nutter
I had exactly the same problem today with various heroes.
At one point both Livia and Olias were in melee range, both set to defend? Livia is running the standard N/Rt healer build w/icy veins with hourglass staff and Olias one of the Jagged MM with Dwaynas Sorrow and cure hex. None of those skills (as far as i knew) were touch? half distance? What gives? Im hoping todays updates will fix this! natural sugar

livia = healer olias = mm master of whispers = ss The problem isn't Livia or MoW or Olias or whatever, its just how the Hero AI uses Spiteful Spirit and those other curses. I have the same problem with MoW who is my SS guy, but my MM is fine. wilebill
Right natural_sugar, exactly my experience. Even as a Ranger Olias is the only necro hero who usually stays out of trouble. Usually.
Replace Livia is the solution. Use a Motivation Paragon works really well. Carry the two hench healers. The General as Motivation is bullet proof and really contributes a lot more heal than suicidal Livia. As for that champion dimwit MoW (the old fool keeps hinting he wants to retire), replace him with anything. An interrupt ranger probably helps out more with interrupts than Master manages to with his SS which he usually wastes. The three Necro Sabway hero system is really really very good when it works. When it doesn't, it bombs out hard. As it often does in Normal mode. It was intended for Hard Mode where you will use very careful pulling, party staking, and other time consuming techniques. Normal mode, not good for blasting around maps or general questing. I've used the Sabway system with Ranger, Warrior, Assassin, and Paragon. In the end, for Normal mode, I really prefer to leave 'em all at home except Olias. And sometimes Razah as Explosive Creation MM is a better deal than Olias. |
