To Report or not to Report
Another Felldspar
While making my predictions for the July 1v1 MAT I came across the name "P Mutha Fckn Dawg Jr". Now, I use bad language and I would never think of reporting someone else for using bad language -- the filters in GW are supposed to take care of that. But this is an obvious breach of the EULA's stance on inappropriate character names, and it bypasses the filters that others have in place to protect them from bad language. I find the name offensive, not because of the language per se, but because of the complete disregard that this player is showing toward other players -- players that do find the language offensive, and yet are subjected to it simply by voting in the Xunlai House. Apparently no one has taken the time and effort neccesary to report the name, but should they?
A report would keep a player who has earned the right to compete in the MATs from being able to because of the 3 day ban associated with the inappropriate name, and that seems rather harsh, both to the player and to those that have predicted them to finish in the top eight. But at the same time having someone with this lack of respect for the rules competing in the tournaments also seems wrong.
I won't report him, but I still wonder if he should be reported.
What do you think?

I wouldn't report him, because I feel that anyone who is offended by something as simple as a WORD needs to loosen up.

Eh, let it go. Someone else will eventually report it and he'll have to change the name.

Anyway, I think they should ban people with such names, the player with that name should have seen it coming some day.

I think there are plenty of more important, worthwhile things that people could be getting up in arms about.

If Anet wants to have rules like that, they should at least check THEIR OWN WEBSITE once a month. The issue with the mini XTH ladder discrepancy with RenO and uF was solved within 3 hours, and that wasn't a breach in the EULA or TOS, and this one clearly is, and probably will not ever be looked at.
I might take the 5 minutes to point it out, not because I am offended by the language, just because of the clear disregard for the rules that many people I know have been held accountable for, but he isn't. Seriously, if saying the "N-Word" in all chat is an instant perma-ban, why is that name OK?

If you're offended report it.
If you're not offended don't report it.
Don't see why its a issue to bring to a commitee.

If you try and push the limits what do you expect. Don't you think ANET will notice it once the tournament starts. It makes you wonder about that person's intelligence or lack thereof.

Unless you were offended, don't be a tattle tailer!
Nobody likes tattling =/
However Anet should be able to identify and watch people with these names.

Anyone else know that there are kids 13 and under who play this game? Strange as it sounds, but parents buy games for their kids.

So "P Mutha Fking Dawg Jr" is okay, but when I tried to name one of my characters "V E G A S" (the name I am most commonly called by people who actually know me) I was told that my name contains inappropriate words????
I submitted a support ticket to find out if I could do something to name my character this anyways, considering that seperating the letters is the most aesthetic way of having a one-word-only name in GW.
This is what I was told:
I had tested the individual letters in V E G A S to find out which was "offensive" and surprise, surprise, it was G...
Long story... well, long... is I would report the ever loving poop out of this guy, but I'm a petty, vindictive sort of guy :P

We try to build a comprehensive name filter so that situations like this can be avoided. However there are limitations when it comes to a name or word filter that we cannot avoid. Some larger words contain a combination of letters that, in fact, comprise a smaller word. As example would be the word "assassin," which contains a short letter series that some would consider an offensive word. In order to allow perfectly legitimate words such as "assassin," we cannot fully block every possible smaller word or letter combination, although we do our best to block the exact word that would be offensive. Over time, we will continue to add words to the naming filter in an effort to avoid future incidents. We did want to explain that sometimes we are unable to act on a concern due to the way that name and word filters functions. Is it our definite intention to disallow direct use of inappropriate words, and we will continue to make strides to meet that goal on a regular basis. If you have any additional questions, please let us know. Regards, The Guild Wars Support Team |

Well you saw this person while voting for 1v1 if I am not reading incorrectly right? If they already posted the name on the main site I think they would have noticed it.

Report anything that you think violates anything that bothers you....
there's no drawback unless u spam reports for no apparent reason.

I'd report it, just because the owner is obviously a wannabe gangbanger.

Its all down to you you were the one on the spot as it where, that said its probably already been reported dozens if not hundreds of times by now.
To paraphrase a famous quotation
" All that is needed for idiots to profligate is for sensible people to do nothing"
As for the attitude that its only words or that there are more important things to get upset about.
Well everyone will have there own level at which to draw the line and everyone will differ about where that line should be.
If it feels wrong then make a decision and act or not.

Report him for spelling a word as basic as "dog" incorrectly.
And if not that, for spelling it in such a way that indicates that intolerable pronunciation of the English language.

Don't ask others what you should do. If you feel the need to report, report. If you don't, don't. Seeing as you brought this to the attention of the community, someone else has probably already reported him, so it doesn't really matter.
There's really nothing to discuss.
