CAPTCHA images are the aplha-numeric images with lines and colors that you have to enter into a text box to register.
Apparently there is a bot that has figured out the ones used here. They can be customized and changed to make it harder for bots, although it sometimes makes it harder for real people too.

The vBulletin captcha generator has been broken by spambot creators for a while now, from what I understand.
I really hate captcha images myself - sites like rapidshare have made them hellish. I can't even read your blasted kitty numbers! </rant>
I'd like to see some more user-friendly captcha options built-in to vBulletin releases. The board hacks I've seen are pretty limited. The last open-ended question answering captcha I saw was extremely unforgiving due to being case sensitive and only allowing a single, exact answer for each question.
I hope something replaces the annoying dynamic text image captchas at some point, though.
