what is the deal with guild wars
Boogey Mancer
why is it there only updating guild wars now like only twice a month it seems as if that is there some thing going on here there not telling people or are they just to busy working on the mythical guild wars 2 that there not talking about.
Issac
Maybe some of the employees also to summer vacations lol. Also I'm pretty sure their busy with GW2. Don't think their ganna do much with the current gw. To busy making GW2 perfect.
Shayne Hawke
There is supposedly only one developer working full-time with GW. Everyone else has shifted priority to GW2.
Boogey Mancer
to me everything has been going down hill with guild wars since gale left and then starting in june when were only get 2 updates a month i guess i was just spoiled for first 3 years with the weekly updates
bookworm438
Give them time. With limited people working on GW, you're not exactly going to get an update every week. And Anet can't exactly afford to higher a whole new staff to work on GW2 while the current people all work on GW. All you can do is be patient.
As for the 'mythical' GW2 comment. Give them time, the game is still in it's first year of development. Not exactly a lot to see within the first year.

its been a over a year since they announced guild wars 2 actually

They had two development teams. I think they made a mistake announcing GW2 and then putting both teams on that project as soon as they did. They should have left one team developing a final chapter or expansion after EotN while the other worked on the preliminary stages of GW2 development. We'd be playing some sort of new content right now, and they could have waited a bit to announce GW2, announcing this new final chapter instead. This way they would have avoided our having no new content for a year as well as no new news either. And counting.
Who knows though. Maybe some news is right around the corner.

I am still waiting for the rest of the skills that were changed in the name of PvP to be split like the others, but I like it that things seem to have plateaued for a while.

I might have to start using this more often:
They're too busy to care as much as they used to.

2nd thread about this this week, must be a popular subject.
most likely since its summer people are taking vacations....

last update was over two weeks ago.
there are some of us out there who like to see the game changed every once in a while. sad but hopeful players who appear jaded but simply miss the times when they used to have fun.

Well certainly yes, whatever second-guessing might be made of their announcement timing, as well as the end of significant new content, right now there's no denying GW is in its end state and is being maintained with occasional updates, while all of Anet's focus is squarely on GW2. I wouldnt expect any significant news for 18 months or maybe even more, counting from when they started, which is still around six months away at the minimum. We're in a holding pattern until then. Enjoy the refreshments.

Wow i dont get why you guys all seem to think that you can't enjoy the game just because it isn't updated every week...think of how many games there are that are NEVER updated and only get changes when a new expansion comes along. If you are bored of the game, stop playing for a while...QQing on forums constantly will not help
HawkofStorms
There were actually more updates this month... then there were the first two months GW was released.

They wont do much more with GW GW is a online role playing game, I would put it in the same category as Monster hunter and Champions of norrath. You get what you get out of the box, The most they do is fix glitches/bugs and stuff like that but no major content updates or anything like a real mmo. Basically you got what you are going to get from this role playing game. Enjoy it. And wait for GW2, Which is proclaimed to be a real mmorpg.

I'm not sure about MH and CoN, but Guild Wars is competetive.
I do hope that they do something about the crap that's remained in the game for so long though. (Yes, Dervsmite, I'm looking at you.)

IMO the game is much better when it is finally not being messed around with frequently.
Back 5~20 months ago, there were skill-nerfs after skill-nerfs after skill-nerf after skill-nerfs after skill-nerfs...
The game was so unstable to even play, let alone developing strategies and counter measures for anything.

Well, it's obvious that now GW2 is coming that GW1 is not getting as much attention as it used to. To say they don't care anymore, however, is a non sequitur. The one doesn't automatically mean the other. It's been a couple of weeks but there is such a thing as vacation as mentioned before and some updates take more time than others.
I will agree that it was bad news for me personally that in the last Q&A that was added, the only news was that the beta had been postponed to next year. I am one of thos players that has been playing for over 3 years now and I have turned into a rather more casual player recently. There are still plenty of things I could do, but the percentage of things that I still really want to do has dwindled to virtually nothing. For example, why would I try to get an eternal sword or obsidian edge, if I rarely play anymore and I can't add it to the HoM. The last things I have done is get a few tormented weapons because we will be able to add them to the HoM in the near future (just check the developers logs on wiki).
Now I have those, I will suspect that my gaming, as far as GW1 is concerned will go from once a week to just checking from time to time (whereas I used to play daily) to see if I got a new mini or something.
What interests me is what Anet have invisioned as a tye-over to GW2. I wonder if they are worried about people losing interest before GW2 comes out. It seems (to my limited view as a player) that the window for people to lose interest in GW1 and start playing other games that might take fans away perhaps permanently is getting a bit on the big side.
Admittedly the game traditionally targetted casual players but even a game like this benefits greatly from people being online. Starting to play GW1 now with lots of empty places may well discourage new players from continuing. I do not think that Anet has abandoned GW1 at all but there is a pressure between keeping the fan base and bringing out GW2. They must surely see that for a growing group of people the game is starting to get a bit stale.
So, I guess, I wonder if Anet's going to do something big in the mean time or just hope that people's attentions will hold long enough. With other games like Aion coming out, they will have to do really well with GW2. Although the argument of no monthly fees is a strong one, I can see also that GW1 also gave a lot of people the opportunity to get used to onlime games and seeing why it might be worth paying for. In that sense it is no surprise that GW can be grouped in with other MMO's after all and in specific GW2. It may be that with GW2 the ante will be upped aswell since it will more directly target the same people as other MMO's since GW2 will be set up more as a game that will be your primary gaming experience and not a casual game to the side as GW1 was intended to be originally.

Boogie, they began full development after EotN came out. Just 'cause they announced it doesn't mean they already began developing the game. The game is still within the first year of development.
There are only a few people currently working full time on GW. They can't exactly get a lot done with only a few people. To say they abandoned it...that just doesn't make sense. If they would have really abandoned it, we wouldn't have anything. At least you're still getting updates, rather they are every few weeks, or monthly.

Game Developers have lives you know. They probably go on vacation with their families and all that jazz. Idk about you guys but the newer players still will have fun. While I wait for GW2/ WoW: WotLK, I'm going to occupy my time with PvP in GW and possibly playing Fury.
