New PC slowdowns.

Ok, this is starting to piss me off. Basically, I've got this brand new HP computer, with great specs (q6700, 4GB RAM, 8600gt, vista premium 64-bit). However...every 1-2 weeks, it just suddenly slows down. I mean dramatically. It's not gradual, it just happens. It becomes ok after I use JKDefrag, but I personally don't think this should be happening. I haven't even been doing anything intensive (ie GW, photoshopping, video, etc). All I've been doing is typing essays and going on the net. Anyone know why this is happening?

Vista. Vista is happening. We say hi to you, beta tester.

Vista and HP bogus services/programs are slowing stuff down.

I'm not familiar with HP's bundled software, but that is a possibility. Also, check to see if any anti-virus scans are running in the background.

Urg... HP... when will you people start buying custom computers?
Anyway most HP systems I've come across have Norton pre installed, get rid of it!
Are you sure you remove nothing important from all the HP software? Some of the software is required to keep your computer working properly.
Also, if your hard disk is nearly full, performance drops dramatically.
You could try scanning (not with Norton) your computer for anything bad, what you describe could be the behaviour of a virus.

You had Norton, and wondered why it was slow?
Despite what some have said about Vista in this thread, they must not have used it much. It doesn't slow down your computer unless the computer's hardware does not meet the requirements.
Only use one virus scanner and one firewall, else conflicts will cause massive slowdowns.
Do not disable the pagefile or any services.
Now, if you want to be sure you got rid of Norton, go to http://symantec.com/symnrt and use that wonderful tool.
Want to be sure HP's crap is gone? Use PC Decrapifier!
