Before I start, I'd like to say that my dad works on computers for a living and has for as long as I could remember. As a result, I was on a computer since I could sit up practically. I type over 100 wpm so it gets very annoying to someone like me to see a suppressed message every other time I type something even if it's uber long.

Now I realize not everyone in the world types as fast as I do and I can respect that. But I also know many people who play this game and other MMORPG's who do type faster than some, and I'm sure they feel the same way. True this isn't that big of a deal but I see no reason why it should be there anyway.

However, if someone is constantly spamming the same thing over and over, then it should be suppressed. Or if you're continually saying lol, lmao, etc. then that should also be suppressed. But for long chats that aren't the same thing, I don't think suppression is necessary. Perhaps this could be added to Guild Wars 2.

What does everyone else think?

The suppresed messaging is necessary because some people would just copy/paste entire novels in it. Over, and over again.

I somewhat agree/don't agree... why I don't agree is because some people do type like
this
lol
omg
wtf
haha
And so on.. I agree with you bieng a fast typer and not wanting to wait around a minute to get back to your conversation.. so, I don't care if ANet implements this feature into Guild Wars or not.

I agree..and Disagree at the same time. I type pretty fast aswell, and it's annoying when I get suppressed in the middle of a convo. But then again you would get annoying people abusing it if it was to be removed, so there's not really an ideal solution

That's true, there would be abusers. Well what I meant was, if someone just types like one-word convos over and over, then it would get suppressed. But if you're actually typing an actual conversation, it shouldn't be. And it should be suppressed if someone spams the same thing over and over. Hope that makes more sense.

^ i have a clue who this is. anyway the problem is if you go into spammadan then the only thing that stops some ppl from typing WTS xxx for xxx pm me again and again is the supressed thing. but i do get what your saying and i do understand what your saying, im a fairly fast typer my self and understand the pain of having to wait in mid convo

Suppressed messaging sucks for having casual conversations. Not sure what we can do to fix it though.

I would like to personally affirm that if suppression were to be removed, I would abuse chat.

It can be frustrating, but it's not like every time it happens you shout "OMFG SUPPRESSED OMG THIS GAME F**** SUCKS"

There is worse things we could focus our attention on imo :P

It is already abused to some degree. Removing it would just allow it to be abused by anyone. I don't see it as a problem for those who type fast to wait a little bit, or to type slower.

send private messages if you don't want to be surpressed, or in the case you are talking to more than one person add them to your group and use team chat ;O problem solved?

edit: excuse my ignorance! i forgot about random arena, yeah here it would be a problem if you were having more then a 2 man convo ;/

I type over 100wpm too, so I get this problem sometimes. However, I'd rather put up with the suppression a bit than get spammed by people who like to shout their trades/lfgs in caps with multiple exclamation marks.

i'm in the somewhat agree party. I also type ridicoulously fast, also about 100-110 wpm and I always get supressed messages, but I do understand why it exists, and frankly, I'm willing to wait a few seconds between typing and hitting enter if it reduces the spam..

It seems like no one, or at least not many people, is reading what I actually wrote. I said, for the third time, that a message would be suppressed IF SOMEONE IS TYPING THE SAME MESSAGE OVER AND OVER. I didn't say to remove it entirely, there are times when it would be needed. And not all of us use or want to use Vent. But anyway it just seems no one is reading what I actually wrote before immediately not signing. So please read before replying.

I think messages should only be suppressed if you press Enter + Up. If you're just chatting over alliance chat or team chat, it shouldn't be suppressed. I only type in the 80 WPM region personally, but I experience the same problems.

it should stay for repeat messages, but if you are typing out something new it shouldnt be there (ever tried to sync dance and get the person counting down only getting to 2....then the next thing they say is they got the surpresssed message?)....
yeah I think they should rethink it....

etc...personally, Trade Chat is there for a reason. Stick to it. Tired of seeing people trying to sell their shit in Local.

Like Puppeteer though, it would be abused like that.

Limit Local Chat, Trade Chat, and Alliance chat.

Trying reading what I said, and what has been said by others. The same thing can be said repeatedly without being the same thing for the suppression filter.

It is the same thing over and over again..... yet it isn't. This stuff is already abused, and your idea just allows it to happen more often with less work for the person to do it.

I wish they make the spam filter even more strict and ban the use of all caps.

Well, the client could check for lines that are the same, and if two lines from the same character are the same, the surplus ones should be ignored:

<Character A> Hey.
<Character B> yo!
<Character C> howdy
<Character Dumb> Gimme sumzin!!1!!!1one!!1!one!!1eleven!twelve
<Character A> How are you doing?
<Character B> fine!
<Character C> nicey
<Character Dumb> Gimme sumzin!!1!!!1one!!1!one!!1eleven!twelve
<Character A> Let's go do some killing!
<Character B> good!
<Character C> okay
<Character Dumb> Gimme sumzin!!1!!!1one!!1!one!!1eleven!twelve

Should be changed to:
<Character A> Hey.
<Character B> yo!
<Character C> howdy
<Character Dumb> Gimme sumzin!!1!!!1one!!1!one!!1eleven!twelve
<Character A> How are you doing?
<Character B> fine!
<Character C> nicey
<Character A> Let's go do some killing!
<Character B> good!
<Character C> okay

If it's that what you mean, I absolutely agree with you.

But truth is that people go thought that. So the best option would be to add a third section to the Buddy list:

- Temporary ignores.

Like trades and party members, they will work for the rest of the session, and won't be saved.
That way it won't be any roblems about server space, since they would be saved client-side, but people would be able to quickly ignore a noisy <Character Dumb>.

They didn't have a filter at one point about 2 1/2 years ago. I don't know if any of you remember. But a lot of people would emote spam. I knew someone in Grotto who'd say HAHAHAHA about 30 times in a row, it was pretty funny though.

I'd still like it removed though, it's fun spamming emotes.

If there was no message suppression, I'd run a macro to send up massive walls of text.

Although some forms of suppression are already in effect, you must remember about Macros. I used to have my G15 Keyboard set up to macro to the town things that I wanted to sell. I could just use the up key to also find what I said last. Using macros, I would not be supressed, and I can quickly hit all my G keys (18 in all, three modes) and the supression would not kick in.

I do agree on a more strict supression method in CERTAIN channels however, town and trade being the channels. But ANet has done what it can, this problem is partly up to the player, if someone is spamming, just ignore it. If you see something you like, hit the "~" key and scroll to what you want and start PMing them, and "mute" global chat. Not criticizing the idea, just giving alternatives so that ANet doesnt have to tend to the children who spam with the ! then the !!.

Anet has helped too with the auto part formation. By typing "wts" the game will make a party for you in the party window ("P") and people can see from there.
