Not again...
hevi metalac
I'we done "-image" recently because i was kicked out of the game and was getting "send" / "don't send" error all the time. GW worked fine, for couple of days and now it started all over again! What should I do?
hevi metalac
It's making me download a bunch of things 4 times already!
Alexandra-Sweet
What was the exact error? And recently the Guild Wars servers are not 100% working (not that they were ever working 100%...) so it might not be your fault.
hevi metalac
it just kicks me out of the game and asks me if i wanna send a report... It does that several times and then i have to download bunch of files like i'm entering the game for the first time...
hevi metalac
have any idea?

(with download I mean actually showing files being downloaded in the loading window NOT the Performance Monitor)
What's the size of your Guild Wars .dat file?
hevi metalac
Yes, my .dat file is 3.733MB
hevi metalac
Look, i'we just finished downloading files that are required to get into the game, and discovered that all my characters have, once again changed their armor and armor colors. And when I click "play" I have to download 20k files!!!
Alexandra-Sweet
Well my .dat files is 30MB bigger so you might not have all the files.
This problem started recently? All of the sudden?
You might want to check your computer for malicious software with a proper antivirus.

This happened to me 4-5 times already. Each time I download 6k files to get into the game, and 27k more to play... It's annoying and time-consuming...
Fungus Amongus
Did you remove the -image switch after the download? You can't play if the -image switch is still on your shortcut.
Alexandra-Sweet
When you used -image, how long did it took to download all files (and how many files were downloaded)?
hevi metalac
Once upon installing the game (like it should), then 2-3 times before the -image and this is the 1-2 time after the -image... Do u know what should I do? This sucks...
hevi metalac
it took about 24 hours ('cause i had a slower connection) and 118k files were downloaded!
Alexandra-Sweet
You might still not have all the files, last time I checked there were over 1.000.000 files or so.
hevi metalac
1.000.000 on - image I would have to go to vacation until it downloads...
blackmage_z
Make sure you have enough free space on your hard drive.
If nothing else submit a report to CS and see if they can help you out.

everyone's dat will be a different size due to how many campaigns, character slots, add-ons, etc.... it will be around the same size. I would backup any templates, screenshots and then uninstall, remove the guild wars folder and reinstall. It sucks I know, but something has to be corrupt for you to keep getting the windows errors.

Your world is ending!!!!! garrrr ka ka !

If I reinstall, can I save my characters, and how? What files should i "backup"?
izzywish
All such data is server side, the only things you need to back up are your saved builds and screen-shots.
hevi metalac
So, will I have all my characters, I mean, it's not like I'm remaking my account... they should be there, right?
Issac
Awww, man I remember when this use to happend to me. It was just constant, Error after error, it got to the point I couldn't even get to the pain login screen before the error poped to. It would come back to back. It really did suck I know how you feel. After a while it just stopped didn't really do anything that I remember but I was happy.
Any ya all your characters and other stuff will still be there.

Your characters, weapons, armors and inventories are all stored on ANet's servers, not your PC. Don't worry.
The only thing you might like to back up is your screenshots folder and your templates. Unless you're on Vista, in which case your pics/templates are stored in username\documents\guild wars

maybe try repairing instead of just redownloading *the files*(correction in wording)
moriz
if the game is redownloading everything each and every time, there are two possibilities:
1) your harddrive is dying, which is causing data corruption and forcing the game to redownload everything.
2) you are still using the FAT32 data system, which has a limit around 3gb. since gw.dat is 3.55gb roughly, that will lead to problems.

Anything I can do to fix the second one? I'm running out of options here... like i said this happens all too often...
And 1 more thing: after I do after i do the -image can I "copy" the file somewhere so I don't have to do it again, just "paste" the damn thingy?

yes, you can copy the gw.dat file to somewhere else. that's where everything is stored.
btw, to check if you're using the FAT32 format, go to my computer, right click on your C drive (or whichever drive you installed GW on), and click on properties. it should tell you there.
if the file system is listed as FAT32, i believe windows will allow you to convert it to NTFS, which is the format you want. if it's listed as NTFS already, then go with possibility #1.

All data is stored on the GW servers, you won't loose anything. And if you got problems with your .dat file, I do not recommend you to back it up. Just trash it. You might want to back up your templates.
Gw.dat is strange anyway, both my friend and I have exact the same chapters and bonus addons, we both did a full -image and my gw.dat was 500MB bigger.

Does -image have any effect if i don't delete my .DAT file before i do it?
