Hi everyone.
I installed Vent today on Ubuntu Linux via Wine.

I got the following error message, I presume this doesn't allow me to speak or hear what the rest of the guys are saying.

Failed to get encoder for specified Codec.

Unable to initialize outbound codec (GSM 6.10 - 44 KHz, 16 bit): Unable to find the specified codec

__________________________________________________ ________________
Can someone help me out with this?
Or is it impossible to run Vent on Linux?

AFAIK the codecs are usually a part of the windows installation - they don't come with Ventrilo. You may need to Google the codec and download and install it yourself. I don't know whether or not you would need a Windows or a Linux version.

You need to add 'MSACM.msgsm610=msgsm32.acm' into your system.ini (in your .wine/bla/windows-dir) and also copy msgsm32.acm from a working windows (or you can google & dld it) to the .wine/bla/windows/system-dir.

Should work after that.

Have fun.

p.s.: If you don't get for the file for whatever reason - i think the medibuntu sources have them (google for it). Meta package should be win32codecs or something like that (apt-get update && apt-get install win32codecs). After that, you should find the file with 'locate msgsm32.acm' and copy or link it to the above directory.

p.p.s: On another note, i would advise using Mint-Linux, which is basicly an Ubuntu with all such codecs, and spares you alot of this sh1t. *cough*
