Public relations is managing the flow of information between the institution and its "public." Whether it is thru the means that certain individuals want or not, Regina is doing that. However, she is Community Manager, which gives her further freedom; as a Community Manager can be assigned to different sites by which to manage. Whether she is on message boards or not would, thus, be rightfully optional. |
This is an excerpt from her wiki journal:

Apparently people are interested in what community managers do, besides read forums. So, this is what I'm working on this week, and following that are some everyday sort of duties. This isn't an exhaustive list, but it will give you a general idea of what I do Monday - Friday, between the hours of 09:00 and 18:00. I expect there will be some additions and/or changes as time passes and when new demands require it. This Week:

When will people learn that Regina is not Gaile. She said it and stressed this fact.
Read her journal, pm her, or post here. What is it you guys want answered right now that she's not answering?

Rahja - I clicked that link, and while it fizzled, there was a jobs link.
Clicked that, and under the description of GW2 Development team:
Oh

Wow, so she's on her Talk page on Wiki! Except for all she ever does is copy and paste game updates in it. I've seen her post on the forums two or three times. I've seen her in game zero times. She may be a CR, but there are absolutely no "relations" going on with the "community". And I don't mean sexual relations, you pervs.

Part of this I posted on another thread last night.
Sorry, but I have been extremely disappointed (3 months+ is plenty of time to settle in) CR or CM or whatever anyone wants to call the title. From the recent lag and mAT issues, to the hacking outbreak etc, she either hasn't responded at all or on the rare occasion she does her response is short and uninformative/unresponsive.
Part of her job is a matter of keeping your business's fanbase (read: customers...read: money) at least occasionally happy with your ability to communicate. I do think that as a CR/CM she should communicate to gw fans effectively.
Seriously, if this is how Anet is going to communicate with their fanbase I doubt seriously I'm buying GW2. I've been a fan girl since right after Proph release, bought every product, preorder etc. I always liked how Gaile took time to talk/listen. Say what you will be she did relay our thoughts to the devs and vice versa. No, Regina isn't Gaile and shouldn't be expected to be, nor would some players want her to be remotely Gaile cloneish. She does, however, need to relate to the community. That is the job.
Fact is, they've established GURU as a valid forum for communication long since and going waaaaaaaaaaay back. Too late to switch mid stream as it were. The wiki doesn't cut it. She doesn't have to reply to every stupid thread, hell not even close. She does need to respond when very valid concerns come up.

As a community manager, or at least a good one (WTB GAILE GRAY) role is to REACH OUT to the community, rather than having the community reach out to you.
I understand that if you reach out too much, the job becomes stressful and overwhelming.
But hey Regina! THAT IS YOUR JOB! get INVOLVED and you will earn the respects of the players~

The problem with posting valid complaints about your non-pay-to-play game and it's staff when compared to a pay-to-play game is, money doesn't talk. While PtP gamers are putting out $180/year at the very least to play their games, we spend $50/year, and seeing as there hasn't been a new game in about a year, it's even less. I bought Proph a few months after it came out, I pre-ordered Factions, Nightfall and EotN, and might buy the BMP sometime in the unforeseeable future, and it's pretty ugly when the parent company doesn't seem to care what it's most dedicated fanbase feels.

There's two sides to every argument. It's not fun to be the person taking the brunt of the hate for whatever thing Anet decides. At the same time listening to the voice of the players certainly is a smart thing.
An occasional forum post doesn't take that long and if that's what the majority of the audience prefer as the communication method (is it, I don't know?) it should be treated seriously.
--edit--
I just read the comment on her blog she posted here which I guess sums up her feelings. http://acidforblood.net/2008/06/18/vexation/
While she certainly hits on some points that I agree with, like what does her being straight/gay/bi or whatever really have to do with her doing her job? I do think that if you can't roll with the punches you're in the wrong career. You need to be dynamic and be able to not take offense to what the customer says, as hard as that may be. If you let it get to you, which obviously it has it will consume you and make you hate your work.

...sigh...IN BEFORE CLOSE cuz this is the exact same as the no GW2 info at PAX thread, except the thread title is actually matches whats being discussed.
I think the point got across, the GW community/players/fans are unhappy with Anets current poor community relations. Need to start moving on cuz things arent going to change over night, give it time to change. Perhaps instead of making "Flame the Anet CM" threads we should be making "How Can Anet Improve their Community Relations" threads, tho i guess those types of threads should be in the suggestions forums.
Should changes not come, then these threads will just pop up again, and we will go thru all this again, resulting in further agitating the players. The more agitated the players are, then chances are GW2 sales may begin to hurt cuz the agitated players wont want to play a game made by a company that doest nothing but piss them off.
Anyways, like i said at the start of my post, IN BEFORE CLOSE cuz thats exactly where this thread is going.

Ms. Invisible?
Not sure what she does, but she certainly does not habit this place much, nor gwo (from what I am told), maybe they have grounded her so she cant leave wiki?
Not sure she even plays anymore either....
wish I had a job like that.

For all we know, Regina could be posting on Guru incognito.
You tell me which is better: Someone who does their job very well, actually talks to people, but can have a few annoying traits, or someone who doesn't do their job at ALL (or at least, it appears to be so), doesn't communicate with the community, but is less annoying.
I'd go with the first.

Please stop making these threads as all anyone does in them is troll.
I chat with Regina on a semi-regular basis, and see her here reading quite often. She does things differently than Gaile as her job is different than what Gaile had before, and she is a different person.
Also, CRM is not the same as PR, and how that gets done varies by company and position.
