Dedicating weapons not customize
Darklight Derv
Before I go into this subject, I want to say that if there has already been threads on this, which there very may well have been, then mods please close. So, I was think that instead of having weapons customized to your character, it could be just dedicated. This would give the same effect as the mini pets, making it so that people could dedicate it, and then possibly sell it, or use it for multiple chars. Such as using a destroyer staff for an ele for fff, and then giving it to a sin for farming ectos and such. Please post your feedback on if you think this is a good idea or not and why.

I like the idea, and feel it should be done to an extent...
Once you dedicate it, you should be able to use it for another character (instead of just hero's), so it is dedicated to your account, not to just that character...BUT, should not be able to sell (ie; use on another account)

In a sense, the issue of putting useless weapons into the HoM is getting fixed, since it's moving to be account based. On the other hand, if you want the weapons to all still go towards the same character, the problem persists.
I wish that dedication would show who something is dedicated to (Dedicated to "XXX YYY"). If that doesn't work, you can always dump the extra weapons onto your heroes.

But the whole purpose of "Dedicating" is to make the pet's main purpose pretty much useless. What does dedicating a weapon do? You are still able to use it and won't lose value just because it says "Dedicated to " "".
Tender Wolf
One thing about dedicating a weapon to HOM is that it customizes to your character but doesn't give the extra 20% dmg. That, in my opinion, is a waste and something that should be fixed.
I'm all for a weapon that can be used across an account instead of just one character, and as long as the weapon isn't customized, selling is fine. But again, make it like the mini pets so that it can't be dedicated more than once.

Because I have just been letting mine walk around my character in town.
Wow, maybe I can do things with it that I never knew of...
Please reply back!!!

I think weapons should be able to used over the whole account once they are added to HoM.

All customisation should be account-based really. It's just way too annoying otherwise.
I have a lot of expensive/rare wands that are useful on a lot of characters, which I just cannot bring myself to customise.

It gives the 20% extra damage.

I think Tender Wolf is half right. Dedicating at HoM was originally bugged such that the damage bonus was not given, nor could it later be customized. Customizing, then dedicating worked, I believe, but I am not sure. ANet has since fixed this issue.
On topic, don't customize items that you want to use on another character. The 20% benefit comes with a price.

Well it used to be that if you dedicated one of the destroyer weapons it wouldn't add the 20% extra damage. Not having any weapons in HOM, I didn't realize they fixed it. So soooooooooooorry to you damn flamers that have been hating on me all day. I'm looking at you, holymasamune.
But I do agree that they should be locked to your account if they're added to the HOM instead of just your character. Mini pets don't do anything but walk around and they have that avantage, why not weapons?
While we're at it, allow all weapons to be added in there instead of just the ugly and expensive ones.

Tenderwolf, you're right with regards to the buggy HoM.
But these days it works fine.

Hopefully it'll allow you to do it on any character when it goes account based. (Don't hold your breath, you know they'll screw it up one way or another...)
I'll /Sign is anyway.

I 100% totally agree with this.
But heres a question for you.... (not meaning to change the subject, but here goes)
For those folks that at the moment have a "full" hall, when they implament the torment weapons of being able to go into the halls, is this going to mess them up? or are the torment weapons going to be just an add on, but not needed for a "full" hall? This question has been running around in my mind ever sinse they staerted talking about puting the torment weapons in the hall.

I don't understand why dedicating makes it customized. Just make the weapon dedicated, i.e. so it cannot be dedicated again. No customization, that would be like if once you dedicated a minipet, you could never trade it. bad idea

I'd rather add one Prestige set to each campaign (Titan, Shiro'ken, Torment, Destroyer) and make the Valor monument account wide.

HoM is gonna be account based so dedication should be an account based thing. it's just logical.

this should definitely be implemented with the upcoming HoM update making it account wide. I do not want to pick and choose which characters get to permenently keep tormented weapons -_-. I want to be able to switch them around at my choosing.
MirkoTeran
I think its fine as it is (not signed or not-signed as it doesn't affect me).
This update should just add a big bolded red line of text to uncustomized weapons reading: "This weapon is not customized and only doing 83.3% damage."

I've got my 11 destroyer wpns and having them all on my ranger sucks... being able to use on other characters makes sense... change to dedicated to account ftw !

Totally for this. maxed out my hall with destroyer weapons but my ele had to give up her staff..if hall is gonna be account based so meaning those weapons will be in my account hall, why cant my account use them?

The main reason to dedicate instead customize would be to use the item with other characters.
For that, account customization would be better. That way you also prevent the item to be sold to other accounts.

agreed customized weapons should be account based at minimum.
I wouldn't even care if dedicated weapons in HoM could be could be traded and used just like mini pets can still be used if dedicated. It'll just be devalued like mini pets.

I would absolutely LOVE an option to Account-Customize items, I would customize my collection of caster Wintergreen Spears for epic damage increase and use on all chars in PvP and PvE
But the account customization technology improvement is most needed for the 'red' Reward Point items, they should be Customized for all PvP characters on the account as a default and allow putting them in storage chest instead of all that hassle with transfers through heroes. Same with the RP armors.
For PvE it's a little awkward as it seems pretty logical what customization does for 1 character, but how to explain customization for whole family? That would need a new name like umm soulbinding :S
Account customization could be a good gold sink or sink of something else (skill points?), items Customized to a character could be 'upgraded' by that character to be usable by all characters of the account. For better accessibility, option to acc_customize should be showed all players - performed by all Weaponsmiths who do normal customization.
This should also encourage customization of more items which seems good... but a problem is that many of the most valuable weapons are those that can't be obtained anymore, if people would customize those they'd be extinct even faster.

having the ability to use the destroyer weapons on any toon on the account is a good idea.

/signed i've been thinking about idea for a while too. To a lot of us, destroyer an torment weapons are helluva expensive, especially if you buy them from another player.
I would prefer to give my specific weapons to appropriately to the right toon.
With that said, we should be able to display in hom and dedicate bonus mission weapons.

Don't mind it if they change it so you can use the weapons on the same account, but don't think that you should be able to sell it after.
And no for the bonus mission weps. Free weapons aren't really for a monument, especially since they're not even yours. The belonged to turai, saul, togo and gwen. They were the ones that did the missions and it had nothing to do with your character, so why should it be in a monument to your descendants? You may as well say you could put pre-order weps in the HoM. Just no.

another whining thread? they grow like mashrooms. It's good the way it is. Would be nicer if customization was account based but this way aNet would have to change armor customization etc.

its very inconvenient when using pve chars in pvp. i don't customize any of my wands/staves because i have to swap them amongst chars for pvp. it isn't practical to keep a water staff or 40/40 water set on a ritualist who's only going to use it occasionally, i just borrow that stuff from my ele. damage bonus on a wand/staff isn't a huge deal, but the disadvantage just shouldn't exist.

I dont think you understand what customizing means ,
well it will get customized to a character to their hight their fingers hands etc for the 20% extra damage, so theres no way another character can use it
Just like armor is customized ...
