I've long been a Mac user. I had a testing PC I used to test designs on from time to time, and was able to upgrade it enough to run Guild Wars nicely, but it died and I ditched it. Tired of PC issues anyway, and its not my main computer. I wont be getting a new PC.

I dont yet have a new Intel-based Mac. The first one I get will likely be a laptop. I'll then get a new desktop. While Intel Macs can have Windows installed on them via Boot Camp, there is no way under the Sun I'm installing Windows on my Macs.

I'm hoping Anet will release a Mac-based, openGL version of GW2. A number of other games have done so, WoW and EVE included. Future Blizzard releases are likely to do this as well. It would be nice for Anet to reach out into this market, given they're building up GW2 from scratch.

It matters how much in terms of resources it takes.

If it doesn't take much at all, /signed.

If it takes a reasonably significant amount of time and money to do this, /notsigned.

I hate Apple for their commericials, most pretentious bllsht I see on television.

XDDDD. No.
Sorry, but let's face the truth: Mac is for:
- Show off.
- Image/Video edition.
- iStuff.
Games means nVidia and Direct X.
Direct X means Windows.

Since the change in MAC processors, you can install Windows in MACs with Boot Camp.

That's way easier for both me and Anet.

Good Idea for them to get GW2 to run on Mac also due to it could only boost sales. But if I remember right some of the new macs can run PC program OR there is a program that lets you.

GW2 will be programmed using DX10 with DX9 compatibility. therefore, there is zero chance that it will work on a mac. unless, of course, anet makes an openGL version, which they can't do because of budget/time constraints.

/signed. Silly to reduce the player base by so much, especially as the number of mac users in only increasing.

I'm hoping not to invite a Mac vs PC war here. Wasnt my intent. I understand and respect individual preferences and freely admit my bias, doing so happily. There's really no need rant against Macs here since I understand preferences those might have for PCs.

If the resources required are reasonable for them to do so, I think the return would be fairly high for Anet, since the actual gaming options for a Mac user are low in this genre. Best options right now are WoW (cant stand the graphics - but let's not divert our attention there) and EVE. There are a few others. I'd expect Blizzard to follow suit with more Mac-based releases in the future, given that they have done so with WoW.

Really just wished a place for Anet to have some possible consideration of the concept of a dual platform release, since this is precisely what they tell you to do if you contact them about anything: post it on the forums. I shall now return to my trusty steed and continue tilting windmills.

Seriously though: if you drop in, sign or not and offer an objective opinion. Both sides are welcome.

This is the whole reason I joined GWG... they won't even look at a suggestion you submit to them directly, even if it's a suggestion that can't possibly accomplish anything but good.

To post that thread was the original reason I signed up on this form. The thread has since, sank. But if you glance over it quick, note the unanimous /signage. It's a good idea but when I submitted to them directly they just said "go post on an official forum." GRRRR. But that /rant aside...

/sign for multi-platform.
The GW2 is still in the early stages of developement. It can't be so set in stone yet that it would be hard to make a Mac compatible version.

What is your topic suggesting? The GW2 be Mac based?
What is the sticky topic at the top of this forum?

Post in the correct place.

You must be delightful in social settings. Sue me for not having posted for such a long time now in Sardelac to ever have noticed there is a GW2 sticky up there, when I dropped in to make a topic. Aware of it now thanks to your kind reply.

Leads me to ask why is anyone even posting suggestions for GW here anymore? One developer allocated for GW means none of it is going to happen.

Mac based version by the way. Dual platform release. Releasing GW2 only on a Mac would be quite a suggestion.

Can we get a Lunix/Unix build as well? The only reason I run windows at all is to game. I'm waiting for the day emulators get good enough to really do games justice.

until macs and linux suddenly support DX9/10, there won't be a multi-platform GW2.

you must also realize that GW2 is built on a modified GW1 engine, which is strictly DX9. this is very cost effective, since all they are doing are a few new features and graphic tweaks. making GW2 with openGL will mean restarting from scratch, which is simply not cost effective, even if there are new potential costumers to be had.

Yeah. The only thing I would suggest if you want to run a DirectX game is to either emulate DirectX (if there was a DirectX 10 emulator out there, let me know?), or to get Windows and run it on a Mac or PC.

That aside, I'm actually up for an OpenGL version of Guild Wars (meaning that it could be ran on a Unix/Linux system, which, if I remember correctly, the latest Mac OSes are). That'd be really neat. Only problem that I see is the support problems with doing something like this. You've got multiple platforms to provide general support for. That means taking the time (and money) to train people in running a certain build of Unix and/or Linux, and THEN training that person (or persons) of technical support for Guild Wars.

I do like the theory, and I'm all up for it. But only if it's somehow cost effective to do something like this.

Where are you getting that information ? DX11 is already in development so it is well possible GW2 will eventually run on DX11.

While it would be nice to get an openGL version, for now, i guess Bootcamp is your best option.

*sighs heavily* I'm guessing Micro$oft is going to require Vi$ta for that, too...

Too bad the game wasn't OpenGL in the first place.

if its not to much work, maybe, but I don't think GW would gain many players on the Mac. I also quite honestly don't like Mac users much; unless you work for Pixar, you really should never need a Mac :|

gaile gray.

GW2 will be able to run on DX9, just like GW1 can run on DX8.1. it will use DX10 (and MAYBE DX10.1) for more advanced effects.
