Why do armor textures looks so drastically different.

When I look at my own character, the texture looks very sharp...not pixellated or anything. But when I look at other characters, the armor they are wearing looks blurry and pixellated. Why is this?

This is just to make towns less laggy. If you step outside with another player, you'll notice that their equipment looks just as sharp as yours.

Stole the words right outta my mouth, and actually, i'm in the personal belief that K's mod actually makes some of the npc and other peeps armors look even better than your for some odd reason, which isn't negative, but still rather interesting.

Another satisfied Kuntz-mod user here. Doesn't slow the game down (except it takes a bit longer to load towns), and other peoples armors look awesome.

Wow. Arenanet should seriously advertise this in their startup messages.

Quick question about the chain kills and the voices that it says such as "god like" and etc. Can the volume of that be controlled through the gw sound control panel?

Why? That mod isn't officially supported.

Anyway, the loss of detail while in town is a feature. The game is over three years old and systems at that time couldn't handle a full district of folks with all their armors in such high detail. However, as mentioned, when you are out in an explorable with them, their armors get as sharp as yours.

In the settings file that came with the mod, open it up in notepad or whatever and remove the whole line to do with UT sounds. That'll make them go away. Don't think they can be adjusted, sadly. But I always recommend that people ditch them asap.

Another happy user of the hi-rez mod here ^_^

To adjust them, simply replace the '1' for a '0' in the settings file that accompanied the mod files.:

UT99_Sound_FX=0 ;Enable Unreal Tournament '99 Sound Effects
High_Def_Composite=1 ;Enable High Def Textures in Outposts. Use -image command line.

This enables the Textures, yet disables the UT sounds. Now you are still able to switch them to on, in case you want to use them.

Hi-res mod A++. I wish it were an actual in-game setting, though, so you could choose to display other people's armor at the best settings or not.

Also make sure that you've done -image on the dat, or it' won't show all the armours high res....

you need to download all the textures into your .dat file. Unless you have every armour out there your computer will not yet have downloaded the high res textures for most of them. If you do a search you should come up with instructions on how (I use vista, so I don't know how to explain it to XP users) to do an -image command. This downloads all the data that is currently existant in guild wars, and should pad the .dat out to about 4gig. Without having all the textures downloaded you won't see them in high res.

By saying they should advertise it, I was implying that it should be offficially supported. It should be an option for users. Similar to how you can change your graphics settings, there should be a checkbox or something that would enable the texture improvements of this mod.

It's been suggested. There should be a thread regarding that floating around Sardelac at the moment. Pop over and add a /signed.

It's actually a bit puzzling why ANet hasn't added this as a setting in options. The functionality is already in the game (as the kuntz mod shows), all that's needed is a way of enabling it, which would probably take a programmer less than a day to implement.

I don't know, perhaps it's something to do with the need for an -image download, it'd eat an awful lot of bandwidth if a hundred thousand users enabled hi-rez armors and started an -image download at the same time.

The mod rocks.. I've been using it for ages and now it's just the way gw is to me. I forget it's even there most of the time. Great job to the developer of the mod and naughty boys and girls to the devs for not including the option to do this in the graphic settings.

I doubt the download would be any worse than a new patch of something they release.
