I would like to request an updated version of Texmod. There are a lot of skilled people here who could improve Texmod alot and fix the many bugs it has. If this is not possible, a complete overhaul of the program could be carried out.

If people are not aware of the problems with Texmod, they are all to do with textures... I will summarise briefly:

- Often the shadows for players appear squared (see screenshot below). This can be cured by minimizing the game then restoring it, but sometimes you have to minimize 2 or 3 times before it clears. This is a common problem that happens several times an hour for many people.

- Foreign textures appearing in the distance

- Flashing textures on the character selection screen

- Whole screen is covered in a white or patterned texture (See screenshot below)

Would anyone be willing to do this? It would benefit a large proportion of the Guild Wars community.

NOTE: Could a mod please move this to the correct forum if this is the wrong place. I tried several times to post this in the community works forum, but it never appears in the list of topics.

I wouldn't be so quick to blame texmod. This might be a mod related error and nothing else.

Its all you need to do. Or it could just be the mod instead of the program.

Guys, I already stated already:

It could be a problem with a mod, but I am not sure what mod would cause this. Any ideas?

Might be a separate graphics related problem. I have never had nor heard of this before now. What are you running for graphics? Also, as always, be sure your drivers are up to date, and you have the latest Directx and Phys-x engines installed.

Texmod was not created specifically for GW, it was designed YEARS ago to work on a variety of programs, and is far more complicated then you might think.

The error is a problem with your graphics card running out of buffer space, due to the fact that texmod temporarily has to replace (without overriding) existing textures. Its a problem with the hardware not specifically being completely compatable with the software (and since it isn't exactly a main stream media piece of software, this shouldn't be too surprising).

Get me the source code to TexMod and me and some other people can do something.

Cept you won't be able to and we're too lazy to create a new one from scratch so...;(

I get the same thing, it's just something you have to put up with if you want that extra help with Cartography and a pretty UI.

I have this issue on 3 different computers, all very powerful, modern PC's. Maybe it's a mod, maybe it's not but as people said, the program wasn't designed for Guild Wars. I think maybe it's time to create one and was hoping someone or a team would have the interest of creating a newer, better version.

This appears to not be the case, I had to ask though on the slight chance.

I get it too, but it's a minor annoyance.

texmod is not complete. it doesn't have an effective garbage collecting ability, which causes textures to "bleed" into frames. there's really nothing you can do about it, other than debugging/recompiling it from the source code.

It can be solved by yourself easily, plus it's not a GW-exclusive program.

either live with it or figure it out yourself. it would be nice if someone would but most people don't have that kind of time.

No, it's texmod.
Texmod is extremely buggy and seem to have some sort of problem with its housekeeping routines, leading to various corrupted graphics.
Minimizing and then maximizing the window usually fixes it, as the screen is then refreshed.
However Texmod is the property of its maker, it would be illegal for people to start messing with it, so instead they'd have to write a new app from scratch doing the same thing as Texmod, only without bugs. I don't know, maybe someone will do that, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Yeah, I've gotten the shadowy things. Figured it's just textmod, since my comp has a good graphics set up. So I just have to bear with it.
Don't think I've ever seen anything like your second screen though.

Since the person is providing the application free of charge to everyone, wouldn't it fall under the open source category and follow open source rules e.g. you have the right to edit and redistribute a peice of code. The only problem here is, we do not have the code.

I'm sure it's textmod that's buggy.

This happens at least once every 10 minutes to me, still very annoying. For those saying "it's not annoying", you are not me and I find it more annoying. I still choose to use Texmod though, as I prefer playing Guild Wars with mods, than with out.

No.

Just because they put something out for free doesn't mean it is open source at all.

Well I was under the impression that if someone made a peice of software, released it to the public for free and it's not classed as open source, then it has no rights or rules at all.

If I am right, it would not be illegal at all.

Well you're not, just because something is free doesn't mean copyright law etc magically stops working.

It would be illegal to do, because reverse engineering code is against the law in practically everywhere in the world and would get whoever did it sued if he ever found out.

For technical issues, go to the Technician's Corner forum.

There is no place for program requests on this forum because it isn't the forum for that sort of thing. As this isn't a Guild Wars-specific suggestion, closed.
