When creating a PvE female nightfall ranger - and ONLY a PvE female nightfall ranger, all others are just fine, the program goes to the face / hair / etc. selection screen then hangs. The music will pause for a moment, then an unrecoverable hang ensues. Sometimes it goes over to a loadscreen for whatever the last town a different character was in. It's the wierdest thing I've ever seen.
A friend of mine mentioned something about this a month or two ago, but I didn't pay any attention. For those of you who have a spare character slot sitting around - is this a repeatable bug or is it just me?
My system:
Nvidia 680i mobo
Intel 6600 core 2 duo
Nvidia 8800 GTX
1 tb raid 5 array
4 gb Corsair Dominator memory
Win XP Pro
I basically never have a problem with GW. Ever. Until now.

In followup, I was able to isolate the problem somewhat. I created a PvE nightfall ranger male (no problem), selected the skin color box (no problem), and was then able to go back to the sex selection screen, choose a female and go forward to the next screen. It did not hang while the skin color box was selected. I was then able to select the face box and the other box without a problem, but the moment I tried to select the "hair" box, it hung up and could not recover. This time, it crashed to desktop, but showed the GW loading box (small grey rectangle with progress bar along bottom) in center-screen.

sounds like a problem with gw.dat
delete it and use -image to download overnight.

I agree with the above, it could have just became corrupted.
It would sound most logical since it is only that specific thing you mention (must be it's files that got borked or something).
Other than that I'd think its just a bug that a-net accidentally released that only affects some people, but how long has it been since they've updated? I kind of doubt that it would be that.

Asked a friend to duplicate and he could not duplicate this. Tried this on a different, older computer at home (Dell 8500) and had only a slight hiccup, no hang. Very strange.

Have you followed moriz's suggestion yet? If this is only a problem with your computer, all clues point towards a corrupted .dat so far.
