How do I unlock skills?
abdullah_mag
I'm somehow new to the game and i've been posting asking about builds and all sorts of thing as some of you might have noticed, just now i read a post about game skills, and i saw some replies of old GW player, they said its ben 3 years of GW playing and they still dont have all the skills, at least unlocked them.
how does anyone expect anyone to use the builds out there if it will take player a year to get the skills for that build, thats beside that not everyone has all campagins, i personally have Factions , NF and EOTN, i hve a rit and i liked the 330 Vwk and Vengeful echo build, how much time would it take me to get the skills required??...and i'm still on normal mode.
people who will stay on the pc and keep playing GW to unlock those skills and even for a reasonable time would take 4 months or so, this means u need to absolutely have no life....no life at all.
anyone got a solution??.......and dont tell me unlock pakages cuz i aint spending any more cash on GW....except prophecies maybe later.
thanks for your time

it doesnt really take that long....if you just play the game you will get some of them....as you go thru the missions and such you get skill points (and cash ) to get more skills....it really just depends on if you want to get them all (about 140 or so per core class and less for the non)....
so I dont get your problem...I have characters that are less than a year old with all skills for their primary and current 2ndaries.....and I havent played them constantly for that year either ......just play the game and you will get the money for the skills as well as the points.

Uhm...you only need 8 skills. Some skills are useless for your style of playing, so you won't have to get those skills. If you see a nice build for farming, you can unlock those 8 skills for that build. I have an elementalist specialized in Fire, Air and Earth magic. So i don't need all the skills from the attribute Water magic. It won't take you a year to get all skills for example an Elementalist, but at most 10 days if you're doing your best.

Well... you can unlock skills with balthazar faction and by purchasing them at a skill trader. I honestly don't see what the problem is here
Get the skills you need and don't bother unlocking every single skill yet.

Well, it's not going to take months to get the skills you need. First thing I did was go through Proph to get the main ones (some core), but failing that, you should just complete you're campaigns to get to a good level (and pick up the skills you need a long the way) and then hunt down the elites and such. Hero Skill Trainers have some decent skills most of the time so watch out for those, and find a party to get those certain skills you need. I got about 3 elites halfway through the Nighfall campaign on my Paragon and all I used was a decent Hero team. You have to use what you got running through, even if that means using some from your secondary profession.

taking into account 2/3 of the skills suck or fit tiny niches, its not hard to get the best skills. i only have about 3/4 of the derv and para skills because half of them just dont compare to the others.
in conclusion: you dont need to unlock all skills, just the useful ones. this doesnt take long and if it takes more than a day to get the best skills for a certain prof youre doing it wrong.
also getting through a campaign is easy. i know people have beaten NF in under a day, factions is easy, and prof you can get run through until THK.
ps: saying f*** doesnt get peoples attention.

You get a lot of the core skills just by doing quests in Prophecies, but you don't have that one. Really what amount of time is needed? Anyone with enough gold and skill points can get them in no time. Both gold and skill points can be gotten pretty easily by doing some of the easier farming runs. Just use the basic xp scrolls from the merch and go out and farm raptors. Sell your stuff for gold and get skill points from going up at least 1 level per run. Another run I like to do with my necro for giggles that gets a ton of xp with a Scroll of Rampager's Insight is Zhelnehlun Fastfoot outside of Rilohn Refuge.
Or, if you don't really have time to do that, then there's always the skill packs you can buy in the gw online store.
Hope it helps.

Taking the right avenues, getting skills for a certain build should take you no more than a few hours.
Do some Alliance Battles and earn Balthazar faction (big bonus this weekend) to unlock skills for your builds. Once unlocked you can purchase campaign specific skills from their respectful Skill Trainers.
People may not have all of the skills unlocked over 3 years for various reasons. For one, unlocking all skills is frivolous as there are lots of skills that don't see the light of day because they are downright inferior.

When examined many of the builds can be reworked with standard skills, not all of them of course.
Some builds work around an elite skill but there are none elite alternatives that with a little reworking are almost as good.
The only real problem are builds that depend on skills that need lots of work to get up to a useful level.
So if the build uses Norn Asuran Ebon Vanguard etc skills then tough that's just how it is.
Remember also that some of these builds were developed by people with 3 years play invested in the game even with a life 3 years gets you a lot of skills.
Anyway half the fun is developing your own build, finding its awful then looking at why its awful.
You need to know how skills work together be effective in the game anyway
I have three years invested and still make awful builds but I make some good ones too.
Don't know all the classes well but can play Necro Ranger and mesmer effectively.

if you want every skill you can probably unlock them all in a month or two of really trying. most people aren't UAS (unlocked all skills) because they dont want to spend all the gold, or just dont need them.
i usually just get skills as i need them.

Go to the main city's. Buy the elite tome if you need to or cap it. Then get the 7 other skills in the main city's. And if you have the patience to farm then you could take 5 minutes to get the 7 non elite skills. And then get the elite. Its not hard. And if you pvp and pve then you can just get balth faction unlock it. Get a tome if you want. And unlock the skill there. But that takes time. Patience is a virtue.... one which a lot of people don't have I guess.

Honestly, I have only been playing a year or so and I have all the elites unlocked on my account and most non-elite skills. I only unlock non-elites as I need them. It didnt take me very long to get all the elites. It really depends on if that is something a player is interested in doing. There are some people in my alliance that only unlock skills as they need them.

When you have a build you want to try, it takes about 10 mins to get those skills, and that's if you need the elite. It doesn't take so f****** long so stop crying and play the game. Would you prefer to not have to get the skills at all and just have them all available from start?

Ok, first thing you need to know is making a title like that (which I changed) is not acceptable. There is no need for that. Just ask a question and we will try to help you.
Secondly, had you read the rules and faq at the top of the forum like you should have, you would have seen that sometimes it's better to use search and see what's already been asked and answered.
So, read the rules, the faq and check out those search results. Next time you post, make it without swearing.
