i have been playing for around 13-14 months and am not a complete noob, but have yet to learn some of the more advanced areas and techniques of Guild Wars. Can someone tutor me?

Learning HOW to save money: That nice shiny skin you want but costs you 40k. Dont buy it.

Learning HOW to make good PvE custom builds: Do whatever works for you. Just because someone else hates it doesnt mean it wont work in pve. Anything will really. Just read skill descriptions.

Learning HOW to play an Assassin: Goto pvxwiki.com find an assassin build, load it onto your toon then procede to press 12345678, probably in that order.

Learning HOW to not freak when my Assassin skills can't be used in the middle of a chain: If it fails simply move out of aggro range and damage dealers and wait till everythings recharged.

Playing pvp is more than just pressing buttons. You have to know something about priorising targets, the HA mechanics, GvG mechanics etc.
You can't just tell him he's being dumb and has to take a look on wiki.
Well, a good thing you could learn PvP from is from observer mode.

For PVE the best single thing you can do is experiment with skill bars. Buy or unlock every single skill you can find, and then experiment with them. Pick a combo or two or three that looks like it's fun or effective and then play with it a little, try out different skills, find what works best. Some builds will kill your enemies quicker, but unless it's really bad (aka you die all the time) then you should be able to use anything. If you have fun with it and your character stays alive it is valid in PVE.

For PVP - join a guild and learn from the experienced ones, that's the best solution there.

There are good tutorials on this forum for learning to Farm. It just takes a little practice and then it is mind numbingly easy.

Save money by NOT SPENDING money.... learn to farm and make yourself not spend a penny of that for a month... if you farm 2 hours a day for 25-30 days you will have a crapload of money.

lol this makes me laugh, not at the guy who needs help but they guy being a jerk. Seriously if u just play a sin by pressing 12345678 then i can see why u play ra. sins can be used as pressure not just spikes. Farming can be difficult if you don't understand it. if your to make a custom build u need to know skills and he might not understand them. What if he wants 40k for a shield teach him to power trade. Just don't be a jerk about it.

My only advice in this regard is - try not to be too fancy - at least, not at first. Some people spend great amounts of time and effort trying to make some wowee-zowee leet build, when something very simple will do just fine.

On the other hand - you always emphasize the word HOW. It's more difficult to teach you "how" to make good PvE builds, and it depends somewhat on what your goals are. Basically, you may want to start with a general idea of what you want to do, or a type of skill you want to use. Then you put together some skills to try to accomplish it - and then you tweak it till it works well enough. You may need to do a lot of trial and error to tweak things like energy use, recharge times, etc. For example, some times you may have a skill in mind that seems to fit well with your build, but it takes too much energy to use often enough, so you need to determine whether it's best to try to increase your total energy pool, or decrease the usage by other skills, or use a zealous weapon, or just forget it and use some other skill.

Thank you for the PvE advice. As I said to Flightmare (yes I am reply to quotes from the bottom up) I no need PvP help. I have read all I can on Farming but I am still confused a bit. The farming is part of the spending problem.

I play PvP all the time, I don't need help with PvP, My sin is just a PvP only character -.- that is why PvP was included.

As people have said a sin is not just 12345678, but the aggro escape I thank you for.


That is because most of the time I have been playing up until now has been wasting time.

Farming:
Depends on what you call farming.
I think you mean solo farming, but you can also farm with groups (which is more fun). The basic idea with solofarming is that you make a build so that the foes you want to farm can't kill you and you can kill them.
There is an entire subforum dedicated to farming, I'd surgest you take a look there.

Save money:
Saving money is nothing more then making sure your 'income' is higher than your spendings.
So either raise your income (by farming for example) or cut your spending.

Making builds:
If you want good builds you need to have some basic understanding about skills and how they can enhance each other.
This can be on individual level or team level.
A good example of individual builds are the farming builds.
Those maximize the possibilities of the individual player.
A good example of a team build is what is called Sabway.
It's 3 hero necro's which use skills that benefit from the way Guild Wars works. One of the heroes is a Ritualist healer which benefits from the dieing minions. The second is a minion master generating a wall of minions to prevent damage and do damage. The last is a curses necro which benefits from the way AI keeps attacking when hexed.

Learn the skills and how they work and you will be able to make decent builds.
Also, take a reasonable looking build and start to improve it.


Well, how would a real life assassin work?
Select your target, make sure you are not detected, one shot - one kill, run.
If you fail and can try again do so else run.
You need to be very aware of your limitations (it's no use to use a knife to assassinate someone inside a closed armored car, you'd better take a bazooka).
Sounds like a good way to play a PvP assassin to me.

Find something that works really well. Use it till it gets a nerf. When it gets a nerf. Find something else that works. And use it till it gets nerfed. (Sounds simple I know)

Learning HOW to save money. This is everyone's dilemma ok... First off, have a set amount of gold you always want to have in storage. NEVER GO BELOW IT. (caps lock cruise control for cool) Then, when it comes to getting something. Don't go for the expensive skins. A sword is a sword. Who cares how it looks its the same stats. Skin = nothing stats = everything. A r9 crystalline 15^50 +30 does the same thing as a r9 longsword 15^50 +30

Learning HOW to make good PvE custom builds.
Make sure you always have (if your going to solo) A self heal. Something so you block all attacks. And then your damage. Make sure they work together. Then use it till it gets nerfed. (pve)

Assassin's are used for mainly pressure. They strip enchants with [Shattering Assault] And also can kill caster classes and add shutdown.

The skill was blocked [distracting shot] or something like that. If you aren't takeing alot of pressure and its on a fast recharge just auto attack. And then when it comes back. Unleash hell.

I don't play an assassin, but in general:

1. Different areas have different setups and therefore will probably require slightly different approaches to them. You wouldn't use an MM in an area rife with Verata's Gaze, or a fire ele vs Destroyers in HM. This goes for any class. There's absolutely no point in bringing a skill that causes Bleeding if you're expecting to fight chunks of stuff that doesn't bleed. (Random example. I don't know exact monster stats off the top of my head.) Yes, there are certain builds that are probably pretty effective across all areas - but even the best PvX wiki builds are moddable to suit your purposes. Everything is moddable.

2. It's your style. It's very difficult to play a bar if you're not comfortable with the way it runs. Switching the positions of skills around helps, sometimes, but if you don't enjoy it, you're not going to play it well - in general. Different people like different builds, and you should feel free to experiment with your bar. If you're playing with guildies, they'll probably understand, although it's probably not a good idea to suddenly try an experiment mid-mission. :P

3. If it doesn't work, take a second look at why it didn't work and what you can change to counter the issue. On heroes and henchies, remember that the AI doesn't always work the way real players would, and sometimes the solution is as simple as manualling your hero monk to cast Protective Spirit.

Farming: Look here. It has alot of great farming builds that are not to complex. All of them have a "usage" section too.
Saving Money: As alot of people have mentioned, it's all about buying only the things that are necessary. Like do not buy expensive rare skin weapons that cost 100k +X amount of ectos. If you play PvE, a max damage weapon is often not needed. Only things needed for PvE really is max armor... And skills of course.
Custom Builds: As some mentioned above, simple is in most cases better than using all those strange skills. So just try out different skill/class combo's and see what fit's you the best.

As far as making/saving money it all comes down to 2 methods.

Slow but steady or Fast and risky.

If you choose fast then be prepared for the many many many times when you will die or fail to kill anything because of a single mistimed skill or unexpected move from a mob. This can be very profitable but can also be very frustrating.

The slow methods are often frowned upon by most but I find they tend to yeild better results for my play style.

If you are the type of player that logs on once a week but spend 6-8 hours playing that one day then the Speed Farm is the way for you to make your money.

If you log on every day but only for an Hour or so then take the slow and steady aproach.

As for saving money you should look to Collectors for free max items that can work for most all builds and cheep green items if you need certain mods that cost to much to purchase.
