Heyy,

Tell him if that was true, then the "GW server" should have been infected since it was released.

No.. the whole Guild Wars server will not be infected.

At worst, you would have a spyware on your computer slowing it down, and if you played Guild Wars then it would steal your account information and you would get hacked.

If you were installing the games from the CD or downloading the client from a legitimate site (Aka Guild Wars from www.guildwars.com) then you would have not gotten a virus from that, it was something else. If you were pirating games, then that could have got you a virus.

Run a decent Anti-Virus program (if you want FREE ones try AVG or Avast) - don't download torrents or other pirated stuff, it is often full of viruses and spyware - Never click on ads on the internet - Don't open attachments on suspicious emails ------ Follow that and you should have very few problems with viruses of any sort.

Malware/viruses are picked up by browsing the internet, clicking on ad banners, misleading applications, going to bad websites, bad e-mails with attachments, or sticking infected pieces of media into your machine. Be safe and you will not have to worry about infections. GW is a direct connect from your computer to there server. Thru the internet but it is not like a normal browser. No viral infection can happen, unless they had a major hack. And if they did I am sure the servers would go offline until fixed. While connected you can not surf or do anything other then play the game when connected. (Yes F10 pulls open a webpage but it uses your installed browser to do so) Run a firewall, Run an Antivirus, and Run a Malware protection program. There are many free ones out there. Update and scan this is your responsibility to do it don’t assume the program will do it it’s self. Do it regularly. Also tell him there are millions playing daily with no problems.

Yeah, I generally like to run my Antivirus every week or so. Follow what the others said.

The only data sent from the client to the server is keyboard/mouse presses and X Y Z coordinates for zones/areas.

I think your dad can be seen here on the right of the panels below:
