If this belongs else where please move.
I herd rumors and speculation that because Vista has Direct X 10, that XP would be getting Direct X 9.L which is the same. now countless sources when googling Direct X 9.L tell me that it is and or isnt the next Direct X 10 for XP.
I dont want to advance to vista due to the fact that when doing a certion update vista refuses to start/and can't repare it's self because of a hardware error that occured when applying the update.
Thus I want to know, if the rummors and or speculations are true or not. will there be a version of Direct X 10 for XP or is 9.0c the last version for XP? (with of course periodical updates and what not)
I'm not sure about this

DX9L is for vista only, and is only used to fix compatibility issues on vista with older games.
winXP will never (and let me repeat for emphasis: NEVER) get dx10 in any shape or form.

So I am forced to upgrade to vista then?
even when I have such issues with some of vistas updates?
this is not fair at all. (as often things in life are)

in a nutshell: yes, you are forced to upgrade.
i'm not sure what issues you are having with vista, but if they are hardware related, let's just say that you won't have the ability to run DX10 decently even if it is made for winXP as well.

All I can say is that in a nut shell it is some driver update that refuses to allow vista to start.

No clue, it might have something to do with the companies.. it all has an explanation one way or another - it's like that guy who almost had legal action taken against him because he made drivers that ''actually worked for once'' on a Creative Soundblaster card or some such.
Either way DX10 is nothing to worry about, I have Vista 64 bit and I'm about to scrap it due to so much B/S coming out of it, just don't feel like dealing with it until later. I have been back on XP for a month+ now and It's much less of a hassle in general.
