This is a guide for those of us who have many items in their storage who are looking to make a profit with what they have but are unsure of how to go about it with an emphasis on gold weapons. This guide is just that, a guide. There are many ways to make money in guild wars and I am simply sharing with the community what has worked for me. You will be surprised how much gold you can make with a little bit of time, research and patience. I welcome advice & constructive criticism to help make this guide better for all. So please feel free to let me know what you think, whether something should be added or removed.

If you did not know, Constructive criticism is a compassionate attitude towards the person qualified for criticism. Having higher experience, gifts, respect, knowledge in specific field and being able to verbally convince at the same time, this person is intending to uplift the other person materially, morally, emotionally or spiritually.

What you will need

There are a few things that I recommend you have to get you in order to get started off on the right foot.

The first of course is a whats called a mule. The term Mule is used for a pve character that sole purpose is to hold and lug your items around that you have for sale so that the items do not take up space in your normal inventory. It is very important that you mule has the three major hubs Kaineng City, Lions Arch and Kamadan. These three places are the major market hubs and you will find that selling your items here will be relatively easer opposed to selling them in other towns and outposts.

Second: will be some perfect salvage kits. Purchase perfect salvage kits (if you don't have eye of the north you can buy one for 1-3k depending on the seller)

Third: Patience and Dedication. It will take some time for you to sell your wares, its important for you to set a few hours aside each week dedicated to selling. Either in game or through Guru.

Organizing your Wares

The first and most important lesson I learned was to understand the going rate for all Weapon Mods and inscriptions. Mods are easy sales, always in demand, and you can normally sell them with out to much effort. Use the guide located in the price check section of the forms to familiarize yourself with "base" weapon mod prices found here:

http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=44867

This will not only increase your knowledge base on weapon mods but you will start to familiarize yourself with all the different weapons of guildwars. This will really pay of later.

Next, remove all perfect mods. You can even sell near perfect mods as well such as +29 health mods (fortitude) for 1k. The most sought after mods from what I can tell are the 20/20 HCT HSR, sundering mods, +1 Items attribute and enchantment mods (to date).

Once you have salvage the mods off your weapons in storage then its time to take a look at them. Any weapons you have that rq9-rq10 can "almost" always fetch 1k even if it is a common skin. Players are always looking for a nice low rq weapon for their new characters whether the skin is perfect or not. The easiest place to sell the common skins with low Rqs (9-10) are central player hubs such as n00b island in factions or nightfall (starter island) or Old Ascolon.

An important note to remember is that your weapons, no matter what rq they are, They are not worth anything if they do not provide max damage. If you do not know the max damage of each weapon I have provided it for you here

MAX DAMAGE

Sword..........15-22
Axe..............6-28
Hammer........19-35
Bow.............15-28
Wand...........11-22
Staff............11-22
Daggers........7-17
Scyth...........9-41
Spear..........14-27

If your weapons you have in storage are not max, salvage any mods and merch them. It is not worth your time to find a buyer.

2nd Important note to always consider is if you have an rq8 with max damage it is worth considerably more. Make sure you get a price check on all RQ 8 weapons before you do anything with them.

Once you have striped your mods and allocated your weapons and loaded them up on your mule its time to get price checks.

Before for we go any further I would like to encourage every one to PLEASE
READ THE PC RULES. Respect them, love them, Abide by them!!

You can find them here (third thread down):

http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10293250

If you are unsure about a weapon or item ask for a price check here on guildwars guru. I normally like to have 2-4 price checks from different players before I settle on a price. Alot of your wares will be junk so don't take offense. Always keep in mind that pc are just estimates there are no set prices. A buyer will pay what he feels the item is worth. You can always find someone who will pay more and loads of people who will pay less. Keep in mind the amount of time you are willing to put in to sell an individual item. No need to hold out 3 hours of your time for an extra 2k.

The easiest way to get fast accurate pricing for your wares is by providing our wonderful community of price checkers with pictures of you wares.

Alot of you may be new to this so I would like you to read this Thread which explains the basics.

http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s....php?t=3063285

I prefer using Image shack but there are many other image hosting sites you can use.

Once you have Salvaged your perfect and near mods and inscriptions, Price checked your golds, Merched your crap and got an Idea of what you're remaining golds are worth its time to sell!

Selling you're Wares

There are three ways I recommend that you sell your wares in the begging. The first is in game while the second is here at Ventari’s Corner. Ventari's corner is possible one of the greatest tools offered here at guru and I greatly appreciate all who take part it! The third way would be Auctioning them off at guildwars guru. However I do not like using the auction thats just me.

Selling in game is rather easy but takes a bit of time, take your mule with your goods and head to one of the major hubs in guildwars (Kaineng City, Lions Arch and Kamadan). Once in the district put one of your items up for sale.

WTS 20/20 Sword hilt.

You can include your buy out price in the post or simply leave it empty and give your price once some one contacts you. Depending on what your selling it may or may not be in your advantage

I find it better to sell one specific item as opposed to "WTS Loads Of Mods!! PM Me) I find that I get quicker response if I sell on particular item such as a +30hp Shield handle of fortitude or you can put up one of you're rq 9 for sale. When putting weapons up for sale always let the buyers know if it is inscribable or not.

While you are waiting for your first response scroll through what others are looking to buy in the WTB section of the trade screen ([P] key).

When you finally get a bite pm the player and let them know you have it and give them a price. Always be polite and give the player time to respond. Use the general price guide in PC section and price as you feel desired. I normally do not sell for the highest price because I want to move my items fast at a reasonable price. I do not discourage anyone from asking for the max price you think is possible and sticking to your guns. Just keep in mind how much time you want to spend selling each item.. Like I said before, its not worth an extra 1-3k if its going to take you 1-3 hours to sell. Your time is valuable.. remember that

Once you have sold the item of desire simply put another one up for sale and repeat. After a bit of time you will notice that your WTS post will travel higher and higher in the trade window this is good for you because your items for sale will be noticed sooner then recently posted WTS.

As for selling your items on guru please refer to this thread. Follow it closely and read ALL the rules before posting. Love them, respect them, Abide by them.

http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10293250

Well I hope this helps some of you sell some of the items you already have and also introduce to the world of selling in guildwars. I look forward to your response and expect updates on this post as I review it and others offer useful advice.

Good Luck and Have Fun

good post. i always have one hell of a time selling items. heck i even try to sell them at dirt cheap prices and still no takers. i end up just selling most of my items to the merchat because i would rather play the game then spend countless hours selling items.

After 3 years and a few months, the buying/selling game in GW is mostly mods, tbh. There will always be new items and updates, but honestly, all I ever see anymore is someone putting out WTB's on rare q8's or some of the different 'rare' skins. It's not worth my time.

And as far as the pricing guides on Guru... they haven't been updated in 8 months. Good luck selling for any of the listed prices... I've tried, and I get laughed at... lots.

I understand where you are coming from! Sometimes all those pesky greens do take up lots of space. Two suggestions,

1. Outfit your hero's with them

2. Have a guild event or giveaway. Give everyone in your guild or alliance a few greens! What better way to increase moral? I have done that a few times and it has always gone over really well

If you are looking to make cash from them you can post a WTS add Called the Green Grab bag or something like that. Players are always looking for better weapons for there hero's or new characters. They will tell you what they are looking for, plus everyone likes to browse while shopping.

Thats true Tyrael, probably the fastest and easiest way to start making money is in mod selling. Its also the best way to get the hang of the things.

As for the reason you are always seeing WTB Rq 8's is because they are so rare! If people want an Rq 8 they have to search for awhile. I see plenty of people looking for and selling all sorts of other weapons. Just this morning I sold:

-Rq10 Dragon Hornbow clean for 2k
&
-Vertabreaker clean rq9 3k

It took me about 45 minutes, but I was doing this while I was working from my home ( I love multitasking). Honestly, I think your attitude plays a big part in it to. If your not willing go out and put some effort into it it would be a waste of time.

Just taking time and following the steps I have provided; familiarizes yourself with many aspects of the game. such as helping to train your eye, so when you do get that gold drop you already have a good idea of what is salvageable, whats merch food and how much and or how long it will take you to sell.

Tyrael points out a very good poit here guys...What happens if you give a price and some one finds it soo offensive that they respond with LMAO or LOL???

Somethings to consider, they are taking time to talk to you right? Which means there interested. Thats the bottom line, they are interested, that is something you should always remember. It does not Matter how audacious your first offer is. The fundamental thought to remember is this>> You Have Something They Want... and this is your first offer. If they do not like the price ASK them what they think would be fair. If the offer is acceptable by you then...... BAM!! you defused an embarrassing moment, made a buck and maybe even a friend or repeat customer.

I don't know why someone laughing at your first offer would discourage you from selling, Maybe a self esteem issue?

As for the mod prices being incorrect, I dot know where you are coming from. I mean yeah selling a non perfect enchanting mod for 1k (lets say 19%) is a hardsell but there are lots of players out there who can not afford 5k for a perfect one.. Plus the weapon base line pricing guide is just that Baseline Pricing Many of the community members often post what they sold and for how much on that thread. So if you are a little uneasy on the price search that thread for a more recent sell.

The same goes for you, once you sell a mod its helpful to the community and to Levi Garett (the moderator of the weapon mod baseline pricing guide) to post what you sold and for how much here:

Wow, thanks alot, this guide was exactly what i was looking for, my inventory is all filled up with golds and I have no idea what there value is. With your help I have been able to better determine what is for the merch and what I can actually sell.

Thanks again!

Another general good thing to remember -

When you're in missions or just anywhere else, have a good portion of your inventory empty. Pick up everything that drops, and the next outpost or town you visit, just sell it all to the merchants. ID the blues and purples. But here's something good to remember -

If you find golds that are common skins and over 8-9 req. don't id them. Wait until you have 7 and sell them for 5k. You'd be surprised how quickly it can add up

Omega,

I'm not trying to discourage people from selling, or from clearing their stashes out, gods forbid. I have to do that fairly often enough myself! What I meant by it's not worth my time when people laugh at the prices I offer to sell for is that the price guides here on GWG are *NOT* up to date in the least. Go check out the PC Guide that lists Legendary Swords... a q9 lists for 40-80k. Go ahead. Try to sell a Legendary Sword for that much. The only thing that you will see is people interested in trying to lowball you, then laughing at you and calling you a n00b.

I tried for 4 months to sell a q9 15-22 15^50 20/20 +30hp Legendary Sword, both in the Sell Forum here on GWG and in-game. When in-game, I would spend 3-4 hours at a time in LA, KC, and Kamadan trying to find a buyer. I referenced the PC's here on the forum, and still, offers were never more than 5k, mods and all. When the mods alone cost more than the weapon, and Perfect Salvage kits are a dime a dozen, I'm not selling a sword with 3 max mods that I can get bare minimum 12k for for 5k, just so that someone can lowball me on the worth of the weapon, P.Salvage the mods, and make money off of me. That's my frustration.

Even on the Sell forum here, I received 0 replies. None. In 4 months. The Sell post had an in-game picture of the sword being wielded by my Necromancer, along with a PS'd miniframe of the Item Description from the Inventory Icon. I took time and effort to put together the thread, upload it to Photobucket, and put forth a simple, but neat and efficient WTS thread. No offers. It's not my self-esteem that's the problem, it's the fact that even after 4 months of trying to sell the weapon, I kept getting lowballed offers in-game, and no responses whatsoever on GWG. And no one would even try to haggle. I *like* haggling. But a sword that PC's for 40-80k, fitted with max mods, and someone tries to buy it for less than the cost of the Fortitude Pommel? Not just one, but MULTIPLE 'serious' buyers? That just shows you the state of the in-game economy, which, right now, is bust unless you honestly have a RARE weapon.

Those things being said, for all of you that are attempting to find buyers for your items, Lyssa's Luck to you all. Start with, and if possible, stick with mods, or as Golganneth said, leave them unID'd and sell them in a bundle to people working on their Seeker of Wisdom Title Track, you'll net more money in the long run.

This is a great thread, Omega, don't get me wrong, but very few items anymore sell for a price that is worth waiting around for. Most of my items get tossed to my main to ID for his Seeker of Wisdom title, or if I'm too far ahead of my Treasure Hunter title (as I get way more gold drops than gold chests, it seems) I bundle them to sell as unID's...

i usually give greenies to new people in ascalon or i destroy them cause they aint worth anything nearly. thins u wanna sell are high end stuff . greenies are woerth mostly 1-5k so i wouldnt botther.

Edit: the mods you listed arent worth much at all. the only mod that yield a bit of money is forget me not.

sorry to say but i think the guide sucks Congrats on earning the n00b award. Seriously Rockstar you have no idea what you are talking about, perhaps you should read an entire article before you post your horrible misguided opinions.

Omega posted a treasure trove of valuable information which I, and I am sure many others are grateful for. Is some of the information out dated? I suppose a bit, but it provides a wonderful guideline to players who are looking to make a bit of cash from items they already have. If your so good at buying and selling why don't you post a guide yourself?

AND if you read closely he said he was at work when he sold Hornbow and Vertebreaker. If someone is hard at work I am sure they do not have time farm. Because they are busy making real money.

I think you should take time to consider how Tyrael_Eveningsong responded to the post, you may learn a few things.

sorry to say but I think your opinion sucks

Nice guide! I always hate selling these days. I remember the day when a req 9 15^50 chaos axe was 100k+, now I see them going for maybe 40k. It takes me hours to sell a single thing, and I always end up buying something haha.

As for the req 8s being highly desired, I've had a req8 perfect runic axe for more than a year, and have put it on the market with no bidders!

Also, as for Rocky, most of the Grenths/SF area greens you're right about, but some greens still sell for a lot and are quite valuable. For example, I still sell Rago's staff for 45k. Maybe you just have the bad ones that people who are standing by the fire at the Warcamp saying "WTB ALL YOUR UNWANTED GREENZ OMG 500G! COME AND I WILL BUY blah blah blah".

But anyway, nice guide. I have three mule characters that I haven't actually used in ages haha

Nice guide, especially the organization and having all the information in one place.

I thought this might also be a good place to post a few modest suggestions about increasing one's farming profit that I found out about relatively late in my career but would like to have known all along. Although they tend to have less to do with selling to other individuals than to the merchants, it all goes to making money, so here goes:

1) Sell at the beginning of the weekend. There is a natural ebb and flow of economic activity throughout the week. Presumably, this is because more people play on weekends. Furthermore, at least some of these people are under a bit of a time constraint to get their characters up and running with whatever build they are looking to install. So, they buy materials and runes rather than farming them, which tends to increase the price at the Material and Rune Traders. The upshot of this is that you typically want to stockpile whatever materials and runes you get until Friday or Saturday and sell them then. You can often get an extra 20g-40g per material lot or 50g-100g on a good rune. Note, however, that some commodities are insensitive to this effect, e.g., Bones and most Major Runes, because there is never enough demand (or too much supply) to push the prices around.

2) Identify white items. Surprisingly, this increases their sale values. Be aware that this won't work on materials and collector items, and don't bother if the item is worth less than 10g-15g, the added profit won't cover the cost of the identification -- 4g.

3) Convert your wealth to gold. In the time that I have played the game, Ectoplasms have dropped to about 1/4 of their initial Material Trader price. Black Dyes have fallen by maybe half, and Silver Dyes have lost essentially all their value. Most Green items that were once the rage fetch only a few platinum pieces now. On the other hand, the value of gold pieces has, if anything, appreciated; in other words, you can buy more with less now than at any other time that I've been playing. So, it only makes sense to sell off your assets for cold, hard cash, so long as you have the room to do so. If you have completely filled your gold storage, I would recommend spreading your wealth out -- in other words, buy smaller amounts of many different things -- so that you won't be hit so hard when, say, the next big UW farm hits and Ectoplasm prices drop again. Apparently, some ultra-rare, perfect weapons are good investments, but I don't have *that* much money to back up this claim.

4) This is slightly off-topic, but important nonetheless. Work on optimizing your farming runs. Don't assume every build on Guru is the best it can be (youtube and PvXWiki are even worse in this respect, in my opinion), and saving even 10 seconds can make a difference on quick runs, e.g. faction farming. Saving 30 seconds is almost always worthwhile. Consider this example. Let's say Player A can run to the Raptor cave, kill everything inside it, pick up the drops, /resign, and warp in again in 2 minutes and 30 seconds, a respectable, if not quick, time. Meanwhile, Player B can do the same in 2 minutes flat with an optimized build. Let's also assume that this nets Player B an even 10k an hour. All things being equal, the extra 30 seconds means Player A is only hauling in about 8k an hour. As long as you're going to be farming for that hour, you may as well get everything you can from it.

In order to optimize your build, it's important to figure out where your time is being spent. For that, you may want to record a few runs. If you find you are spending the majority of your time running between fights, you'll want to throw in a running skill. If you are spending most of your time fighting, add another damage skill. If you have to wait long periods for your skills to recharge, try something like Arcane Echo or Glyph of Renewal.

You might be wondering where you're going to get all these skill slots from. There is often some "slack" in a build that you can eliminate, that is to say that you can often get rid of 1-2 skills if you change your profession(s), equipment, or play style. Some particulars: you don't have to stay at 100% health throughout your run, you just have to stay alive. The same goes for energy. Given that, rarely do you need both Balthazar's Spirit *and* Essence Bond. If you are running out of energy, try aggro'ing more creatures. Assuming you're running at least the normal amount of hit points, it takes a pretty long time to degen to death, especially via Bleeding. If you can finish your battle promptly, you can often just ignore it. Don't bring Armor of Earth in a Terra Tank build when you can get by with an appropriate shield, or similar. These are very general suggestions, and they might be mistaken in certain circumstances, but the point is this: don't give any skill a free ride on your skill bar. Make sure there is a point in having it and that it can't be replaced with something better.

One simple, little trick to improving your run times is to re-enter outposts right after warping into an explorable zone. This ensures that you zone in close to the exit warp after /resign. That way, you don't have to run as far through the outpost between runs.

5) Finally, you can forget everything else I've mentioned, but take this one piece of advice: move quickly when any new profit-making venture comes along, be it a new farming build, event, weapon skin, etc. In Guild Wars, as in real life, the highest profits go to those who can exploit opportunities the quickest. Beyond that, you can never be sure that a nerf is more than a Thursday away. In order to be quick, it helps to be informed and to be poised. Keep informed by checking the updates page, reading guru, and talking to other players (incidentally, if you come across a large number of people warping in and out of some out of the way outpost for no obvious reason, do yourself a favor and find out what's going on; players flock to the cash). Stay poised by having at least several level 20 characters, preferably in the farming professions (Elementalist, Assassin, Monk, etc., not so much Paragon or Mesmer) who have completed or at least explored most of every campaign you own. It helps to stockpile about six tomes of every profession and maybe an elite tome or two and to have at least the interesting skills unlocked or captured.

If, for whatever reason, you can't get on board with the latest craze, then try to sell to those people who are. For example, when perma-Shadow Form came out several months ago, the price of Tanned Hide Squares basically doubled as all the new Assassins bought armor.

That's all, hope it helps!

Nice guide. But to be honest, some items takes too much time to sell, making it a bad business idea. For example, places where you just farm thinks, like raptors, all the drops, besides elemental swords, don't make you any 1k per Q9. I have tried, and tried to sell a Greater Sage Sword for 1k, no go. I even tried as a test, just to see how the market works, to sell a Greater Sage Sword with +30 for 2k, and no one would buy. So for most things, better to sell to merch or give to heros, and spend more time farming, rather than spending 30 mins trying to sell a Q9 for 1k.

For some people, the hardest part of the game, is to know whats on demand, and how it sells. A guide in that direction would be far more helpful.

Anyways, having large inventory is a bad idea, you only make money when you can't keep things in your inventory, cuz you sell them. :P

But lots of good help in your guide, very helpful.

you should come out with a book entitle "selling stuff, for retards" Seriously though well known tactics for selling garbage, but, for those that don't know, good job this'll help, but one thing i disagree with is using the pcguide on guru with the long listings, those things suck and every price update is always already 3 months old, gg.

Very good guide, informative and well put together. Well done.

I wont bother trying just for making money though as IMO (for time spent) Farming > trading golds/upgrades so the merchant/my heroes get most of my stuff.

This could be good for dedicated raptor farmers, for example, because of all the golds... that's if they dont sell them as un-id's which will probably also always be better than doing this...

Anyway, like I said, nice guide for people that dont farm much and have storage space issues.

Thanks for your input Nechtan Thaumaturge you offered some great info for me to consider! This guide was a great starter for me, now I pretty much just power sell but this guide helped me learn the ropes, thanks again guys!
