Leipzig: Worth the Trip for a Guild Wars Fan?
tre_peter
I have never been to a games convention before as I've always had to travel some distance, but by coincidence I am in Germany for an intership this summer, and hence it would be easy for me to make it to the Games Convention. But because I've never been to something like this before I don't know what to expect. Would it be worth the trip?
I don't care less for the other NCsoft titles and my concern is that there might not be all that much present for the Guild Wars fans. The impression I get from their website is that Aion will be getting alot of attention. Free party afterwards sounds good, but I don't imagine it will be the kinda party I'm used to; kinda scared it will be a big nerdfest!
Anyone been to something like this before that can tell me if it is worth the effort? Thanks in advance!

I say go. You've already got the hardest part done; you're in Germany. If it's not too expensive, go for it. That way later you can drop in casual conversation "Oh sure, I was at the Leipzig convention. Weren't you?"
mazza558
If they were showing GW2, definitely. Still, a chance to meet the devs is always cool. I'd go if I were you.
Buster
I am sure it will be fun so why not. Though if they was showing some GW2 then I think most people would go in a heartbeat.

Since you're already there, I'd say go. I mean, I don't think I would travel a great distance to do it or anything. But since you're already there, why not, right?

Do you actually get to properly meet the devs or will I find myself having to cue to get the option to buy a signed mouse mat?

You might not get to go again, i'd say go for it

I'd go if I was in Germany (or close to), but I'm across the pond in Quebec without a stable source of income... wish there were more conventions in Quebec. >_>.

But when you are that close it would be a lost chance if you didnt go.
And you wil see that you wil meet people of all kind, young and old.

Well, you get to stare at lots of pretty girls, and cars... and some computer games.
If you only care about GW2 and not so much about the rest, you should definitely not bother to go there.
I was there 2 or 3 years ago, and we left earlier than we expected.

You got your whole life to waste your time getting drunk and not remembering what happened the next day when you wake up next to some ugly bint who turns out to be named Bob XDD
Actually the pic above might be called Bob by the looks of things lol
I would say you may aswell try it, you are there it is there.....if you dont like it you can turn around and walk out the door and meet your friends.

I'd go to Köln and drop any games convention in a heartbeat. But then again I'm kind of a partyaddict and absolutely not interested in a GC (unless it'd be to meet up with some other peeps and have fun).
Since they won't be announcing anything about GW, i doubt it'll be worth it ...
And take my word for it, partying with a couple of foreign exchange students is always awesome.

gogo! i'm sure it's gonna be fun. i'd go too but i have an exam on friday and already another trip planned monday (((( oh well, next time!

I may be biased (and particularly since I can't go this time around), but I definitely think it's worth it.
Here is a taste of what's happening for Guild Wars at GC:

The community party in particular looks to be really awesome. There's going to be a fansite karaoke competition, which should be good fun for them.

This is what has helped me cement my decision, but with reverse reasoning. I have my whole life to visit games conventions. Unfortunately this weekend is the last weekend I will get to spend with my international friends; we all return to our respective homes the weekend after. Don't want to bore anyone with my life story, but this has been one of the best summers ever and we need a proper good bye.
I guess what's really attracting me there is my Guild Wars addiction and recent lack of tending to it. Hello, my name is Peter and it's been 3 months since my last log in. (I only have my work computer for internet and no laptop with me). The games convention would be a small 'fix' before I get my feet back on Irish soil. A possible further attraction could have been to meet friends I've met in-game and to put faces (and voices) to the Anet staff; but I don't know anybody on Guild Wars.
I will be there if I can convince my friends to come to the free party but it is unlikely; I told them the party is organised by a video games publisher and put on for it's fans; they let their prejudices go wild.
However if they do decide that's what they want to do this Friday, I look forward to meeting you guys there! (Those who are going, obviously).

I'm thinking of going to try and prove a point.
I shall dress up as Lukas and run around aimlessly, hitting people with a cardboard blade. If they tell me stop, or try to send me away, I'll keep doing it anyways. Once they detain me and ask why I performed such an act, I will explain that I am simply re-enacting the character, specifically his with his latest 'update' in mind.

If you really love and care for the game, then yes go. It's not our place to prove it's worth. It's entirely subjective and personal.
For me? Yes, I'd definitely go.

Because I can go to the convention do and do that after I get done there?
But seriously unless they have some gw2 stuff. It wouldnt even be worth a 20 second walk let alone a few hours of flight time.

It would probably be fun just to see what's going on. You can probably leave if you want, I hope they don't hold you captive. Btw, it's always going to be a nerdfest... at any gamesday there is always those people that dress up like characters in the game and run around screaming warcries.

One of the guys I went with last year ended up sleeping with a German booth babe.
There's definately some awesome parties around if you know where to look. Don't be so quick to steriotype people who attend game conventions.
