I want to make a new character, but I don't know what profession I should pick. I was thinking about choosing the Assassin, but then I heard that the Elementalist and Mesmer are both great for farming.

I'm swaying towards the Mesmer because they are good at draining health, and energy etc, but they might be useless for soloing.

Can someone share their input.

Thanks.

Personally from what I have seen the Assassin and the Ritualist are the best farmers as far as diversity with monks comming in after that. Though I do hear alot about elementalists but haven't done much with mine personally.

No one profession can be considered the best.

I use an Elementalist and Ritualist for farming.

Only change here is I dropped Ward against Foes for Echo.

I use the underworld farming build for the Ritualist.

Monks and Assassins are also another popular farming profession but not very familiar with those builds.

Edit: I'm sure it's common knowledge but I would start with a build and farm where it says you can farm. But as you play through the game look for areas that can possible be farmed with that same build or even with some minor modification.

No really, Monk, Ele, Necro, Ritualist are all good choices.
And Warrior, and with the new cryway which might become main DoA mesmer, are both also good fo rgroup farming (elite area runs) which will provide more cash than solo farming most of th etime.

There are tons of thread on this so called "Best farming profession", imo there is no such thing, and even there is it'd change from one profession to another over time due to new available skills, nerf/buff to existing skills, new combo of skills usage discovered by players, etc. Best way is to make a char of every profession and get them through each campaign, try different things yourself or maybe just keep your eyes open on forums like this one and see what other people have to share, don't hang yourself on one tree.

If your leaning towards mesmer go head and pick it. Don't worry you can do pretty much every farm as a primary mesmer even though its uncommon.

I'll consider the Necromancer, I like my characters to look good, usually with 15k, and I checked out all the Elementalist and Mesmer armor, and I don't think they look very good.

The Necromancer looks very good though, and has some nice builds, thanks for the responses.

not really a best character, they're all good

I use my sin, ele, necro, monk, rit, derv, and war for farming.

Lately my necro has been rocking (55) and i have spent alittle time in
TOPK with my sin.

For someone starting farming though, I would recommend monk/necro or ele to get the hang of it (and either of these are universal, so you could farm almost anything in all campaigns)

As has been said many times over (and as is shown in this thread), you can't pick one profession as the best. If you want to make a character, take a look at the builds and see what you want to do.
