GW Current Appeal?

Hi, I'm a long time player who recently took probably a 6-month break from Guild Wars due to boredom. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed every bit of what I had done so far, but then everything seemed repetitive and pointless. I went online yesterday and didn't find anything new.

My question is, what is there to do for someone who has beaten all the campaigns many times...played all professions..etc.?

Thanks very much in advance,
Nick

Buy something else that's more replayable, or users can make mods for. GW is super boring after you beat it, the devs know it, and they rely on it. They don't want you on the servers, it's too much money.

This pretty much sums up anything I'd like to say. I've moved on to WoW and EVE, eventually I'll quit those as well. There's just only so much one game can do to entertain you.

I've always maintained that this entirely depends on the person. I am one of those people who reads and rereads books hundreds of times, never getting bored of them. I am the same with games. I play and replay my favourite games hundreds of times over and still enjoy them.

If you prefer to play and finish and never touch a game again (even if it is good) then GW is hardly going to offer you anything new that was not there 6 months ago. And there isn't much anyone can do about that either.

I think the above posts sum most of it up. grab a new title suck it dry of fun then move on once again. lately ill spend every gold coin i have then build it back up to a couple million. ive spent 3-4 million on z keys. thats about all that keeps me rollin on. guild wars has excellent replayability, BUT nothing is replayable forever. PvP is a good turn. Im playin COD4 (tourny play atm) thats fast paced and doesnt get stale. just another form of PvP FTW again.

You could always continue beating the living crud out of the game until it bleeds “fun;” lol. Honestly, it’s nice to take breaks from GW but in the long run I find something else I want to accomplish with my toons. I am more sympathetic towards GW because it does not try to push you to the brink, like most other MMO’s do. The thing that keeps me going of course is my guild and friends who support one another as well. One of the things that usually enjoy doing is helping others accomplish their goals in GW. This is my opinion of course not everyone else’s.

Yeah, Knights of the Old Republic has little replay value because they don't want you to spin the disc for too long : \

That said, you've pretty much done what you can in the game. GW isn't meant to be terribly replayable. Like most RPGs, you're supposed to get in, enjoy the story, the action, and when you're bored pick up something else. This is what games do.

If you have done everything, well nothings been added since you were away, so its not worth returning.

GW has appeal if you havent played thru all the content 10 times.

What kept it fresh in the past was the regularly added new campaigns that injected a large chunk of new material to play through. The content was never endlessly playable without them.

That's exactly the way I see it. I also took a six month break and have resently come back anxious to play it. When I read a book (thats good) I'm not going to reread it right after I finish it but maybe a few months later. With GWs, I got bored trying to replay campaigns, but now that I've waited awhile I'm somewhat ecstatic to replay them

I've earned most titles outside of the expensive money ones and vanquisher, and all I really enjoy these days is berating newbs(not new people so much as idiots) and trying out strange builds based entirely on wierd stuff(8 person team equipped with arcane echo and vanguard sniper support+ asuran summon+pet+ebon sin). Can be fun to try out if you have people around willing to do crazy stuff and work together.

There are other things to focus in besides the campaigns. If you don't care to grind out any titles, there are new builds yet to be created by an experienced player such as yourself, there's the accumulation of in-game wealth and ultra-rare items. There's probably quite a bit of totally new experiences for you in pvp.

Even if you've beaten all the campaigns with every profession, there are probably some places you didn't pay too much attention to. For example... The Deep, Urgoz Warren, and Domain of Anguish can be fun and challenging. And if you've already beaten those to death, then I'm out of ideas.

PvP, or drunken PvE on vent. I have no idea how PvE is still entertaining sober for veteran players.

It's not. That's the problem ;p

Btw, RPGs usually ARE repeatable. I can't count how many times I started Neverwinter Nights (first part, sequel sucks badly) or Diablo 2.

Two things: PvP and titles! Get a good guild and climb the guild ladder! Try to become famous! GW has many things to do! My goal is to someday achieve the title God Walking Amongst Mere Mortals. :P

I'd recommend doing titles. Really grind for those titles. Sunspear and Lightbringer take some time and are rather easy to get, try that out. Do elite missions, urgoz warren, the deep, DoA, all fun stuff. But I'm getting the same way, I'm slightly bored with regular PvE cause I've started countless chars and beat a campaign or two with them then deleted them. Thats why I'm doing lots of AB, although even that gets freaking repeitive. All agmes in history will never really be able to retain the feeling you get when you first play.

Or you could just wait for GW2. That'll take up alot of your time. I plan to become integrated with my PC when that comes out

PvP is pretty much the only replayable content.

Pretty steep learning curve though, if you plan on playing high-end GvG, prepare for one hell of a struggle to get there.

PvP or titles, IMO.

I went for titles for a while, made it to 25. I was about to farm for some money sinks (Drunkard/Life of the Party) but I spent all the cash made with my permasin in UW on random items for the hell of it, then slowed down to a point where I'd log on for 1-2 minutes to check on the guild once every 2-3 days. I did that for about 2 months, I'm just getting back in the game myself...

But I've got plans; I'm gonna get there slowly, but I'm gonna get GWAMM. I've started farming again, doing some HFFF to boost my Kurz title (halfway to R6) and I'm gonna try to get in HA groups with a friend of mine, who started PvPing as well.

Should keep me busy for a while.

There isn't much if repetition is what gets you. PvP is the epitome of repetition and grinding titles makes me want to smash puppies. So I play a little, delete char, make a new one, take a break, wait for GW2.

For all these people saying,"Just leave, PvE is dead.."etc.

If you'd get into GvG, which was the intended original path for players to take, you'd discover how fun the format is.

Also - FPS's suck. There's only so many stupid nuances you can add with reload times and shit like that.

The problem is - find 7 people that like GvG like you do. I love it, but out of, let's say (can't remember exactly) 10 guilds, only 2 were doing GvG's, only 1 of them was GvG-only. Others tried one time or another, but failed.

You are generalizing. I like all FPSes, but some of them only single-player (Crysis, CoD, Hellgate xD), and others are multiplayer. But from multiplayer games, I like only tactical/teamplay games, like Enemy Territory/Quake Wars or Counter Strike. Same reason why I like Guild Wars - playing in a team, where 1 vs 1 usually means nothing.

About nuances - what about recharges, aftercasts, resistances, armor and damage calculations, boss properties, environmental effects and so on in GW? ;p
