Pre-determining who gets which drops
ihavealife
As the title says, I think before you go into a mission or explorable area, you should be able to sort who (with real players only, not heroes or henches) gets which drops, like who gets weps, salvageables, collectables, rares, ectos, shards, etc. The first reason for this is that when something drops, you see the text :
(Foe) drops a (item), which your party assigns to (name).
"Which your party assigns to..." - Your party didn't, but it would have been good if they could have.
The second reason is why it would have been good if they could have. I'm suggesting this whole idea optional to the team. You might have one person in your party who is collecting collectables for a collector to collect a weapon, or someone who just wants junk (white/blue/purple and imperfect weapons or white salvage items) to merch. Others might try their luck and only get the golds, in the hope that there will be some and that they'll be good. Another reason I can think of is that if someone is running a mission, in the case that a runee hasn't got enough money, they could give all their drops instead, without the hassle. Also if one player is a lot better, and the rest of the party know it, they could give their drops because they don't deserve them.
There would be a menu for this, with checkboxes for each type of drop, or if they don't want drops (out of generocity, or if they've got a full inventory and storage). There would also be tabs at the top, for each player, but only they can acess their tab. If some people tick boxes, but some tick none and go with randomness, that person will share the chance of getting the drop with the people who specifically want it.
The menu wouldn't change the drops at all, so if the whole party selected rares, the few rares they get would be, as originally, randomly assigned, and there would be no garuntee of everyone getting rares - this stops it being used to generate better drops, while it would be a convenience, not having to manually split it through trade.
I think this is great and flawless, who else agrees and who doesn't?
Remember, it's optional, and cannot generate extra goods.

Any team that would use this would already be talking to each other saying "Hey if you get Dragon Roots I need them for the collector", at which point the teammates get the drop and then immediately redrop it on the ground for him. All guildies I've ever ran with do this already as a sign of respect and friendship. Teams that don't do it (aka, pugs) just don't care. Completely not needed.
BTW none of your options include "this is a pointless addition" so instead of a poll vote you get:

I generally just trade with people. Only if I've played with the people for a while. But never in PUGs.
Exactly. So, /notsigned. Ah damn, didn't see the poll.

people are greedy
if a gold will drop you're bound to have 8 people in the team tearing each other apart for it

I don't know about that, but Lord of the Rings Online had a system where you could automatically reject drops below a certain rarity. So to translate this to GW, maybe you would have the option of having your whites drop unassigned or something.

erm... zelgadissan, "nah, im fine trading" kinda means that.

wtf lawl no /unsigned failure

"I'm fine trading" implies at least to me that it's a hassle giving people the collector items or whatever that they need. But, I suppose you're right in that not everyone will see it that way.
I went ahead and placed my vote there, then.

Got to say no on this one. I am for more Random my self. People would not come in groups unless they are tagged with the I get this or that.
cosyfiep
I can see people checking out what they are going to get and then leaving if what they want is not on the list.....not a good thing when you already have bad pugs and such .....

You said it yourself. People would just check the best possible drop.
Why selecting lockpicks if you can get various lockpicks by selling a gold item?

this simply wouldn't work because EVERYONE would simply attempt to claim the best drop available in the area, it's almost as stupid as WoW's need/greed drop system.

Who in their right mind would not want to have the best drops and who would want to have the worst drops ?

WAAAIT, Ritualists, aren't allowed in PUGs.

This is an excellent idea that is ultimately overshadowed by the common player's greed. It could work in a guild or friend situation, but as those probably represent an extreme minority of players, it's not worth making.
