Yak's Bend is easy to get to after Nolani Academy (you get dumped there), if you need any help, PM me in game.

Yak's is... god, uh... let me have a look.
Why not just do the missions, while you're at it?
Huh, A running page on the subject, may just help you. I'll look for maps.
Yeah, pretty much straight across the Breach in a line directly from Piken, in to Diessa Lowlands. Diagonlly up and across Diessa into the Ascalon Foothills, straight through there (up) into Traveller's Vale, then... East? to Yak's.

I would definitely suggest doing the missions, though. Unless you're overleveled for the area, the hydras in the Ascalon Foothills will probably chew you up and spit you out.
Statistically speaking, the higher-level armor in Ascalon City is the same level as what you can get in Lion's Arch. That'll give you more than enough armor for the starting areas.
