d00d! r u rly gonna run me to droks fer free?!?
*BZZT* HORRIBLE SPELLING AND GRAMMAR DETECTED. SCRUBBERS ENGAGED! *BZZT*
d00d = Verily good sir
r = are
u = you
rly = really
gonna = going to
fer = for
?!? = ?
*BZZT* SCRUBBING COMPLETE. INSERTING NON-IRRITATING VERSION! *BZZT*
Verily good sir! Are you really going to run me to droks for free?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Simple concept. This forum uses it for it's swear filter. We know it as GORED.
I for one would like the *optional* choice to run text through a filter of common horrible intentional mangling of the language.
Just a random thought that came to me from a forum that does this.

good idea i guess, but 10 ectos says they come up with new and more horrible ways to mangle the english language.

Explain how GORED is the filter, when quite obviously RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO is.
GO RED ENGINE.
Also no, that idea sucks there are hundreds of different things id rather anet did, yu dont like how people talk turn off local / ignore list em.

Ehh, what does RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO even mean, I have seen it used so many times and everytime im baffeled, trying to figure it out.
Harvester of Sorrows
A better solution, in my opinion would be a limitless ignore list. =p

Anyway, this is the main reason why unless I'm specifically trying to buy or sell something I stay in international districts. Less annoying people. I wish this exact filter existed, mainly for "verily good sir", but there's so many stupid people coming up with so many stupid ways to talk that we'd never catch them all.
I guess /signed?

I just ignore those lines.
I don't need to convert them, they are not text for me, just gibberish.

Like AutoCorrect in MS Word? I like it. Only thing is, in the OP, I'd switch "droks" (and "dorks" for that matter, incessant morons...) to 'Droknar's Forge'.

Oh, my! I just laughed myself silly with this! Just for the laughs, I'll sign to it!
And the "f-word" is filtered through the forums as RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO. Once I understood that, I became amused by its inception to any post! ^_^

Probably needs something to keep this from happening in HA lol.

Either an unlimited ignore list or a report option for sloppy language.
HawkofStorms
This can't be a serious suggestion. I mean, its not possible to "translate" stuff like that. Heck, its hard enough to translate real languages with a computer algoritum (babblefish anybody?).
Lycan Nibbler
haha anet cant even keep up with bugs let alone the latest "speak"..

Have you ever used Microsoft Word? Just do it manually, it wouldn't be done by Guild Wars.

Its like the opposite of the Swedish Chef. I love this idea. Usually I just ignore anyone that talks like that and go on my merry way, but this idea is so creative I must sign it, even though I cannot see it being implemented.

OK, ok j/k...
too hard too implement. Let's face it skill changes aren't that hard to code (I guess, but I mean they've been doing it for 3 years they must be used to it at least), and it takes a full month to get one, no matter how big it is.

it's going to create some problems. Guru only does it with the english language.
GW is played by many people who don't speak english. If you try to name your character using non-english vulgar words, it will work (except some).

It's an online game, if that's all you seem my advise is that you find better people to hang around with. Join a mature guild/alliance and turn public chat off.
Problem solved.

Especially for those 99^RQ7+33HP-40E weapon stats.
Also signed for SMS chat language.
Awesome. This would make it seem I would play with grown up people instead of school kids.

As I said in a previous post, Dark Age of Camelot had a personal filter you could use to edit other's text as you see it. For instance, you would type /rpfilter 'word to filter' 'word you want to see'. Needless to say, it saved me a lot of headaches. As for everyone who says it would be hard to implement, no it would not. If Mythic could successfully make a system like this five years ago, then Anet could easily pull it off. Hell, I'm surprised WoW hasn't ripped that (another) system off yet, but I guess they cater to a different crowd.

Personally, I would not want to use such a feature. If it's automatically translating lousy spelling/gramar etc. into proper sentences and stuff, then you would never know that the person you're dealing with can't even be bothered to type correctly. I'd much rather their text come through exactly as they typed it; it helps me get an idea what kind of player they are and whether or not I should bother giving them any of my time.
