So I changed case today, no biggie, but now I don't have sound anymore
I have SoundMax Digital onboard sound and this motherboard: FUJITSU SIEMENS D1561
Tried all kinds of fail check, double checked wires and stuff inside but I can't spot any issues (hence I'm turning to you guys ). Updated sounddrivers and directx.
I did install windows xp sp3 yesterday morning but sound was fine all day.

anyone know if i can fix it? >__< or do I have to go buy a new soundcard?

can give more info if I missed something thanks

Start->(right-click)My Computer->Properties->Hardware tab->Device Manager

Check for your device in the list under "Sound, video and game controllers". Does it have a yellow triangle with an exclamation point on it? If so, chances are that it could be a driver problem. Uninstall the device via the Device Manager and download the latest driver for your device. Reboot into Safe Mode and reinstall using the drivers that you downloaded.

It's worth a shot. Completely uninstall and reboot into Safe Mode to reinstall. Of course, bypass the Windows detection and install the proper drivers for your device from the ones that you download.

EDIT: For shits and giggles, have you checked the Playback options in the CP Sound options? I know that it sounds insane, but many times it's the most common and minute things that are overlooked.

EDIT2: Seems that this is a common problem with those that install SP3 on their systems. Many have cured their woes by a mere de/reinstall of their sound drivers. Also, the suggestion about the CP was to specifically check to see if the box next to "Digital Output Only" was checked in advanced options. If it is, uncheck it.

If none of the above options work, I'd say take your speakers and check them out with a different computer if possible. My neighbor had a problem like that this summer and she thought the computer was bad, and really it was just a blown fuse in the speakers. It's worth a check anyways.
good luck

checked speakers, also tried different speakers and headphones. Uninstalled and reinstalled drivers. Rerolled computer to pre SP3. Nothing
After jiggling with the cord i managed to hear a scraping sound from the speakers though, I suspect some kind of connectivity issue, probably did something to the little fellow while moving him in to his new case
ah well, just gonna buy a new card tomorrow and be done with it.
thanks for the help guys
