Hey, i'm a 100% PvP player mainly TA/HA, but feel like going over to PvE for abit of relaxed fun, I have all 4 games, but I'm stuck on choosing a prof to choose. I already have a monk&sin off when I use to play PvE, they've only completed factions as I got bored, but I'm open to making my new char on any of the 3 games.
I'd like your advice on 1. Which is most fun to play (Maybe that's down to opinion, but in PvP all profs are used and It's more of what you're good at than what you enjoy, so i'm finding it difficult on choosing one for PvE).
2. Which is most versatile, i.e. in terms of, it can both farm decent cash and it can be a good general PvE team player.
3. This one is probably more opinionated - Which of the three games should I start a char on. I've already played through Factions, but i'm willing to again if the majority think it's the best storyline, IDK.
I've heard that it's the easiest game to level up in, but IDC about how fast or easy, I prefer enjoying the lore and story of the game.

Also, the only char i'm not to keen on creating is the Paragon. Reason being, i've heard that they're not that useful when it comes to farming, and well, after completing the game on my new char, i'd like to spend time saving for FoW for it, so it'd have to be good at collecting cash :P.

Thanks for reading

in my opinion, most melee are good farmers (vwk warrior and 130 derv among others) eles are enjoyable and rather easy mesmer if you really want a challenge and are okay for farming and ritualists, imo, are all around fun and good times and being decent farmers themselves.

For a storyline, if you can, pick prophecies from the get go. Sure you leveling maybe very slow, but it also means you spend more time in the area to do more quests at a more relaxed pace.

Go Necro for versatility - so many different things you can do with one, and a 55 Necro can farm many areas with great effectiveness. Start in NF, for the heroes alone.... imo.

What class do you not play in PvP? Try that class in PvE. It couldn't hurt, you said yourself that a PvPer and want a PvE character for fun.

If u want to make sure to be accepted in PUG, i'd go necro, ele, monk, ass (SF), warrior or ranger

imo the most fun are necro and ele.

Go dervish imo, there's something innately relaxing about balling up the enemies, getting your heros to cast splinter weapon on you, and then watching your screen fill with big numbers They're also good runners, and it's easy as pie to do pretty much anywhere hm with h/h as the dps you can get if you're running the right builds is very good. Obviously, you would start in nf, no real choice there.

Looks like I am the only one . . .

Go ritualist, they are very versatile, and very fun. Good farmers and support characters.

I've had a lot of fun playing Mesmer lately. Although you'll probably never find a PUG, playing Mesmer doesn't get boring due to the varying range of utility the class provides. In addition to laying down hexes, you also have to scan the fight looking for key skills to disable or interrupt.

When you get bored of playing a typical mesmer (and there are many, many successful skill combinations in PvE) you can play around with more unconventional builds. I've enjoyed messing around with front-line caster-killing builds (anyone remember the premade?) using skills such as [distortion] + [spirit of failure] + [skull crack] + [frustration] + [epidemic] + [disrupting chop], etc.

You can also have fun with the other casting professions using the almighty [signet of illusions], and going 14 or 16 Illusion Magic and 13 Fast Casting. It's fun to get all the synergy from the different Elementalist skills such as [immolate] + [steam] , [gale] + [ash blast] , [chilling winds] + [mind freeze][icy shackles][freezing gust][blurred vision] and the list goes on.

Playing Me/R gives you opportunities to shut-down caster mobs with [Frustration] + [concussion shot] + [extend conditions] + [volley]. While [concussion shot] is usually pretty lame, but with the energy pool and Inspiration Magic line, you can use it without worry. Using [power drain] on those long casting times and [drain delusions] once a foe is near death keeps you going, without needing a zealous bow for [volley] spam allowing you to keep up dazed longer. Something I've enjoyed doing while pet leveling is to use [frustraton] + [psychic instability] + [Bestial Mauling] + [bestial pounce] or [savage pounce]. Also going [Illusionary Weaponry] + [Distortion] + [Heket's Rampage] + [Feral Aggression] + [Predatory Bond] for some nice tanking potential versus melee.

Please note that many of the skills I referred to have been updated/buffed beyond what their image shown here reflects.

Well if you want to start a Proph toon and want to stay in pre-searing I would go M/E You can make tones of gold killing charr at get this lvl 7. My war is lvl 17 and my wifes mes can out kill it. Go figure.

If relaxing is what you like. Go Monk. You can get 55 or 600. Neat stuff.

As a pvp player u will soon get bored with heroes in tow...

As for character.. play a Mes

campaign: prophecies, group with players the same level as you, and dont use heroes

there, challenge set....

Reasoning:

factions (personally speaking) gets a bit tedious with getting out of city in that stupid maze, which is a bit depressing

nightfall: relies on heroes to progress (if u have all campaigns all their skills will be unlocked....... but yours arnt.. (so u have an RC monk etc in low areas where u have hardly any skills).... and u become lazy... the heroes play the game... u just point and hit "c + space"....)... wheres the challenge in that?

to enjoy PVE (unless u want to solo with heroes... which can easily be done... done that... but why play an online game... DUH....), pick a campaign that requires no heroes, and play with other people for a laugh.

NF has a better story than Factions imo.

Following that, I'd have to second lordheinous on Dervish:
- you look cool
- you know you want to be a Strong and Brave melee
- AoE in PvE = ftw
- can solo farm effectively, plays nice guy in Ench-heavy teams (Orders on a D/W with SY! ? yes plz)
- ur leet PvP positioning skillz reap big rewards (no pun intended)

There is also the fact you can practically be an RC with AoM and have a free deep wound every 6 seconds, aswell as Woohooooooounding Strike. There is also immunity from hexes with AoD.

I also suggest Warrior. Earth Shaker is pretty awesome, and so is the Godmode D-Slasher.

Paragon gives you the choice of the Godmode D-Slasher, but is more powerful in terms of defensive capability with decent offense too with the Imbagon.

I'm sure you already know this, but whatever.

My humble suggestion:

If you are a melee person, I'd suggest Assassin. Excellent DPS with Moebius/DB, good farmers/runners too. Very fun to play and I have made one and don't regret it. Dervishes look pretty cool too, but you can 'emulate' one with a Critical scythe sin - sins are really versatile.

As for casters I'd choose Ele or Necro because their caster primary attributes are a bit more more useful than Mesmer or Rit primaries. Both Necro and Ele can farm, deal good damage, be accepted in Pugs and also play some Mesmer or Rit bars if you feel like it.

I don't like Monks, they are common as hell and I don't like 99% their armors/hairdos. :P If I was to make a support character these days, I'd go for Paragon because they are really strong, but you have ruled them out.

All professions I suggested (A/E/N) can be started in Factions so I would recommend it. Easier to gain XP early on and rush to EoTN - you'll spend less money paying to get run/rushed than if you'd started in Tyria.

But really, considering a character is a VEEERY long term investiment, start it where you think he/she has the best possible looks. It will be permanent so having a slower start is worth it, you don't want to delete a character later on because you hate his/her looks.

Good luck.

If you're going to start a character with the intent of building it to the point of getting FoW armor on it, start it in Prophecies.
