irritating yet important flatbow glitch

i was trying all kinds of bows on the shooting range...u know.

and the flatbow and longbow should be able to hit the furthest practice target without getting out of the "standing" circle, but my toon just moves a little forward so that the range is like hornbow/recursivebow range, so i went hunting an i took koss and a healer with me, when i target and attack a monster i find myself standing beside the healer, so the bow (flatbow) and the staff have the same range so i have to stop attacking..move a little backward then attack, then the flatbow range is correct but this doesnt happen from the first time.

so what kind of ripoff is this???.....does Anet even know about this??..and if they do will they fix it or someone has a solution??

and btw...which secondry proffession do you prefer for a ranger??

Are you on higher ground when you shoot the longbow?

i tried them both at the practice area for rangers on the isle of the nameless...of course u know it dont u??

I can't speak for your testing at the Isle of Nameless...but as far as your mob hunting:

If you hit attack while too far to immediately begin attacking (ie. you need to run up to get into range) then your avatar will always get closer than is strictly necessary. This happens with bows, spells, w/e. Then you can back off a bit and still be in range.

Was this what you were doing in the explorable? Or were you definitely in proper range before you hit space?

And I like /D for ebon dust volley build but most of the time I rarely use a secondary for my Ranger.

Hadn't noticed the initial range issue, as I usually carry a shortbow and an IAS.
For secondary, Paragon, for Anthem of Weariness to trigger when my black bear uses Brutal Mauling.

i tried both explorable and proper range.
for proper range i got out of the standing area a little
but for the explorable i targeted and hit space when i was out of range so i was like in a range between shortbow and recursive bow, and even if i was within range it gets a recursive bow range so i have to move back a little.

thats very irritating, i dont want to do that everytime i wanna attack a monster!!!

Popular secondary class for ranger would be Ritualist for Splinter shot commonly used with Barrage.

Elementalist using an elemental bowstring and corresponding conjure element for high damage.

Paragon could work quite well using spear or bow and assassin or necro could work very well if your into getting close and making a touch ranger.

I was considering Dervish as secondary so I could do a holy damage barrage for some areas, havn't tried it out yet.

Holy damage from the Dervish line is (correct me if i'm wrong) tied to Mysticism. If you are willing to spec into smite a bit, monk offers [Judge's Insight] but i've used the conjures and the long uptime is better than the 2s cast for insight.

Of course, that is for the ranger herself, a monk with insight might be useful for those undead heavy areas. Splinter is nice too.

:edit: while not wrong, heart of holy flame gives you 30s no matter the spec...i might try that myself!

Tested the Holy barrage yesterday and its fine.

I had just had a +20% vs undead ebon longbow drop for me and tried out heart of holy flame against the undead in Kryta.

Damage was from 96 to 154 so it seems quite good and may improve with tweaking.

Tried my Dervish in the same area with similar results, dervish had the advantage on Avatar of Melandru which meant I wasn't poisoned by skeleton rangers as much.

Whether the build would work in elite areas is still open to debate, maybe a barrage team could try R/D holy barrage and let us know.
