Prizes on rare materials after a week?

Hey guys!

I was just wondering what will happen to the prizes on rare mats if every player in gw waited for lets say a week, or a month? (i know it will never happen) im just curious, will the prizes on lets say ectos go up? if so, why cant players decide that some day they wont buy or sell rare mats for a month and the prices will rise alot, like ectos for 10k each, and then they all sell their ectos and everybody is gonna be rich ^^, it's just a dream, but it would be nice to see what Anet would say if they saw that ectos were 10k.

Prices, not prizes.

People won't do it because it would require a LARGE number of people to participate in something like that. If there are 100 people playing the game, then you would need approximately 90 of them to stop buying/selling materials for a change to occur. However, the change is based on supply/demand. So if everyone stopped buying AND selling, no change will occur.

For ecto prices to increase, people would need to stop selling, but not stop buying. Once the price did raise, and people started selling again, the price would decrease again. If you were waiting for the price to increase a little more, and waited an extra day, you could come back to see the others didn't wait, and the price was no longer 9.5k, but down to 4.5k.

Won't happen because there are too many people involved.

If no one purchased anything or sold anything to the Rare Material Trader for a week or a month the prices would be the same.

Their prices increase the more people buy their stuff.
The prices go down the more people sell their stuff to them.
Its based on supply and demand.

We saw a little bit of the likely affecy in the week running up to the PermaSin/UW nerf, as people started to hord ecto because of the belief they'd be in shorter supply and so more rare after the nerf. Prices fluctuated by a couple of K but that was about it.

As soon as people started tradign again the prices quickly dropped again

Wait a month with doing what?

Prices are based on supply and demand. If people hold off on farming and buying it will chance absolutely nothing. So for this to work farmers will have to stop farming them and people will have to keep buying em. So who is stopping what?
Prices only really go up when it becomes harder to get the ecto's and there is still a demand for them. Even with the Ursan nerf there are still ways to farm ecto's with monks and rangers and I guess permasins or whatever. It seem mostly like supply is fine still and demand is just not has high as it has been. Guess most players have the FoW armours they want and the Z-keys are more important to a lot of players than ecto's now.

Diamonds were dropping like crazy in price this week, but last night, it went back to 1200 gold (1.2k), but now Onyx Gemstones are starting to drop below 900 gold (0.9k), so I don't know what exactly has been happening...

It would be nice to have a historical price tracker for materials, to visualize the changes in prices over (long) time.

Supply and demand is a part of neo-classical economic theory too.

If rare materials were not being sold or bought for a month nothing will change. Only when trading resumes will price fluctuate again.
