Yet possibly even more exciting was a small tidbit of news we got from Chris Lye, ArenaNet's Director of Marketing, regarding Guild Wars 2. The team is working with Pocket Books (a division of Simon & Schuster) for a three-book series that will fill in the lore gaps within the 250-year period between Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2. Stay tuned to Massively for more on this series and any other Guild Wars 2 news we may uncover.

Sounds pretty sweet. Now is this going to be a novel-type book with a story and such? Or just a fact-giving, lore-telling book?

I like the idea of having historical tomes of lore (fact-giving), rather than stories of how Margrid and Goren had thick babies ^.^

I remember when I first read the prophecies manual, I was quite impressed with the writing; it was enjoyable in its own right. I'll of course wait for others to test the waters when it does come out before I commit money to it, but I'm at least tentatively hopeful.

cool. I hope they get good authors if the book is in novel form. I hope they don't get authors like Salvatore or Greenwood.

btw, i hope they make it into novels

I'm sort of looking forward to this, it would be fun to read a trilogy about Guild Wars. The only thing I'm wondering about is how they're going to write it in such a way that it still makes sense with the number of players playing the same role. And also I wonder about the author. They've got to get someone who's already a fan to write them I'd think...? *here's hoping David Eddings is a GW fan*

P.S. I was going to make this topic last night, but Sora is more forth going than I.

They will do what they did for the Official Lore Stories if it isnt just a fact book type of thing. In those stories the players are replaced with the Heroes of Ascalon (Devona and company). So basicly put Important NPCs in the place of the players character.

QFT. I'd buy the books without question :P

Anywho, I'd definately buy books about the game, because I really enjoy reading, and really enjoy GW, so if they combine it, I don't see the problem.
Personally I would prefer the books to sort of be a historical account, like the manuals etc.

Great thinking Anet!

Cool info there. I'd definitely buy these books, this is a great idea to fill up the gap between the two games. I just hope the books are going to be sold awhile before the actual GW2 is.

I will most likely buy the first book. If the writing is decent enough to make me care about the characters, then I will buy the other two books as they are published.

I think GW is wonderful but will not waste money to buy books I won't read. A good writer is a must.

So does that mean the book lore will not be what we will experience in GW2?

I enjoyed reading the GW1 lore on the official site, so I'm certainly looking forward to this. I'm concerned the novels will focus too much on the personal struggles of the characters rather than the setting, although I suppose that people are responsible for the shaping of the world.

I'd be willing to buy these

I don't think I can read books based on games again after reading one terrible series that butchered everything.

That and I'm not very fond of the future setting so I'm not going to waste the money.

Winterclaw: Which one was that, out of curiousity?

Considering they're a set of bridging novels, I'd guess they're set at a time where there aren't PCs running around, thus getting past the 'who actually did this' question - instead, it'd probably have references to "a group of refugees from Ascalon" did this and "the Sunspears and their allies" did that in the past while concentrating on the things like the fall of Elona to Palawa, the rise of the Sylvari, and so on.

I hope Jeff Grubb is behind this book project. His Manual of the Planes is still a fantastic read. I also hope it is not some shitty character-driven trash like the Azure Bonds rubbish that introduced Forgotten Realms.

Hopefully Jeff Grubb won't write it.

I find his style to be overly verbose, and in the case of the guild wars storyline: incredibly poorly delivered.

who cares about books I read books in school I don't care for no book reading afterwards I'd rather read about gameplay and phat loot and unlimited levels and grind titles in GW2.

Let me guess, it'll be 50 bucks per book, but if you wait a year you can get all 3 with a bonus minipet.

lmao this is the stupidest idea I've ever heard. ANet must be running out of money.

Probably. Think the star wars prequals done by someone with a quarter of the talent.

Draxynnic, I read the Baldur's Gate books. An awful series of books for a great game series.

For me it all depends on the cover art.... I do NOT buy books with tacky cover art. Game series books tend to have bad cover art, and generally tend to be bad books...

They also had better release them in Australia.

Yeah, then Anet would loose money from not as many people buying GW2.

But didn't Anet say that if a book series/movie was done they would make sure it was done well?

ANet doing something well? Surely not. Look at the last 2 years, they've done almost nothing well at all.
