Purchasing the Game of the Year 2008 Upgrade in the in-game store and PlayNC is one of the methods to get the Fire Imp.

Not everyone will be able to see the 2008 Upgrade in the in-game store. The only people who will see the Game of the Year 2008 Upgrade in the in-game store are people who have purchased a retail box copy of the Game of the Year Edition of Guild Wars.

If you have not purchased the Game of the Year edition of Guild Wars, you will see the Game of the Year Upgrade in the Guild Wars in-game store, not the 2008 Game of the Year Upgrade. Purchasing the Game of the Year upgrade will give you access to the GOTY weapons and the Fire Imp.

If you have previously purchased the Game of the Year edition of Guild Wars, or the Game of the Year Upgrade in the in-game store or PlayNC, you should have access to the Fire Imp already.
  • These are all the ways you can get the Fire Imp:
  • Purchase Guild Wars Trilogy (North America) or Guild Wars Complete Collection (Europe)
  • Purchase new versions of Guild Wars products in North America and Europe—look for the Fire Imp on the back of the box
  • Purchase the Guild Wars 2008 Upgrade or the Game of the Year Upgrade, available in the in-game store or PlayNC.com
  • If you've already purchased any of the Guild Wars games via the in-game store or PlayNC.com, access to the Fire Imp will be added to your account automatically on September 5, 2008.

Please note that purchasing character slots does not qualify you for a Fire Imp.

Can we purchase a extra slot, and get access to the Fire Imp? Or do we have to buy one of the campaigns, or the Bonus Mission Pack to have access?

Quick question Regina

why is the Imp only available if your below lvl 20?

No need of it when you're 20. It's meant to be a leveling buddy, not a constant source of fire damage.

That said, I'll miss the lil fella when I max...I kind of wish it turned into a minipet at 20.

But with the, "Only one per instance" rule on it, not much difference allowing it to be used at lvl 20 aswell

Seriously....

She explained every single detail about the fire imp here http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10322526 in the first thread.

Then she made this thread for a more concise description.

Then 7 minutes later she put it in bullet points.

I don't think she can simplify it anymore.

Damage is damage. ANet wants to put less emphasis on the lower levels, hence that EOTN buff and now this.

Thank you for the clarification, Regina. I will have to check the online store and see if any of this applies to me (though, when I checked last night, I didn't see anything that I could purchase other than PvP upgrades and character slots).

Update: Yep, the "2008 Upgrade" Fire Imp is located at the bottom of the Upgrades list.

how is this complex, if you already own the game of the year pack you can obtain him already, if not you can get him with a purchase of the upgrade pack OR with a new campaign or expansion (Which will say on box about fire imp).

This was complex because some of us had not heard of the 2008 Upgrade until the Announcement - so we were curious what it was.

Furthermore, it was "complex" because I did not see the 2008 Upgrade in my in-game store until today so, as one of us who already owned every other option, I was curious why I was not seeing the option.

Just to mention, Regina, that the wording of your OP is a little bit confusing. I have the GotY (and I correctly obtain the little Fire Imp), but the only thing I can see in the online store is the "1 Million Edition Upgrade" (which has the GotY weapons and the Fire Imp, but contrarily to the other Games, it doesn't say that I have it already). No mention of the "Game of the Year 2008 Upgrade", so I'm not sure if I didn't read your OP correctly or there's something missing here.

Just to clarify something for me, is the only thing the '08 upgrade adds the new fire imp for retail versions of the GoTY? Btw, what's the price? I'm just curious.

It's $4.99 USD to add a Fire Imp to you account if you have already bought all the other ways to get it.

Pardon me, but it's late and I'm tired. I've got all the Games-Prophecies,Factions, NF, and EOTN-and the only thing I'm tempted to buy online would be some extra character slots.

Does this mean I won't get that Fire Imp?

And would I get that Imp if I purchased extra character slots?

Because, in all truth, that just about the only thing I'm looking to buy now...

if you buy the Game of the Year edition upgrade, you can get the IMP

orjust go into the ingame store and check to see if you have the 2008 upgrade, if you do, log onto a character and type /bonus in the chat window and the Fire Imp thingy will appear

We apologize that this has been so confusing.

Currently, not everyone will be able to see the 2008 Upgrade in the in-game store. The only people who will see the Game of the Year 2008 Upgrade in the in-game store are people who have purchased a retail box copy of the Game of the Year Edition of Guild Wars.

Since you are in Europe, you do not see the Game of the Year 2008 Upgrade, you see the 1 Million Edition Upgrade.

More information on the European release is here.

Add me to the confused list.

I bought the Prophecies GOTY edition back in 2006 and if I go to the online store all I see is the GOTY edition with "fire imp" included in it. When i click on it, it says already purchased.

Yet I do not have the Fire imp ingame.....and before you start, Yes I did type /bonus on a Level 11 character. I received a bunch of bonus weapons in my inventory, but no imp.

Hi TheRaven:

If you purchased the GOTY in 2006 at a bricks-and-mortar store, you should be seeing the GOTY 2008 Upgrade, with an option to purchase it for $4.99 to add the Fire Imp to your account.

If you purchased the GOTY from the in-game store, you're correct: you should see it as purchased, and you should get the Imp when you type "/bonus".

Could you submit a ticket to support so they can start doing some research on possible causes for this? I'll let them know that there are some problems for some players on getting the Imp. There might be a bug that we don't know about yet.

EDIT: Raven, I have sent you a PM with some further instructions. Basically, it would help Support a lot with your problem if you submitted a screenshot of the Manage Access Keys screen.

Thanks,

So, since I have already bought all the games when they originally came out and since I have not bought any of them through your store or PlayNC.com, I will only get the Fire Imp if I buy something a 2.nd time!
Guess I will have to live without the little critter!

Will we be getting either box in Australia? EB Games (the distributer listed on the "Where to Buy" page) doesn't have a record of either pack, and I've got a friend wanting one.

No, its just a lil upgrade to your account in the ingame store, an unnecessary, but still very nice one...

PS: Guys, I'm sure you'll all agree that Regina has posted a lot of good helpful information in this thread and about this and I'd like to say thanks to her... Who's with me?

My collegue got these products:

Guild Wars 2006 (Retail, with bonus weapons)
Guild Wars Factions (Retail)
Guild Wars Nightfall (Retail)
Guild Wars Eye of the North (Retail)
All skill unlock packs (In-game store)

And he got no fire imp. I think this is not really fair. Please consider to change this.

By the way: I got the imp myself.
(GW Special Edition RT, Factions CE, Nightfall CE, GW:EN RT, Weapon pack, (Online store), Char slots (Online store))

My gf has the GW: props GotY european edition with the bonus weapons in a shop, retail.
She bought all chapters + EotN in a shop as well.
No upgrade available, no fire imp either... Weird. And I'm not spending €5,- on something you can't use anymore as soon as you reach level 20 either.

I bought exactly the same as her, only MY props is the very first one from 2005. I upgraded to the GotY in the online store for the bonus weapons and the free BMP (along with 3 char slots), and I got the imp, but can't use it as all my chars are lvl 20... :/

Ty for the clarification Regina. I purchased a retail GotY, that's why I can see the Million Edition upgrade. It's strange that there are different names if you're in the USA or Europe!

Thanks,
I think this is really unfair towards the people who bought the GOTY (and all the other campaigns) in a store, and not through the ingame-store. We people who bought it in a normal store might even paid more than those through the ingame-store, and now you ask us even more money for this imp, while other people who also bought the same GOTY edition but through the ingame store just get it for free...

I'm not really looking to get the imp but, thought I would post this glitch

I added the GOTY (retail) to my account (I already had prophecies but wanted the weapons)

However, I do not see the GOTY 2008 upgrade in the ingame store (instead it shows only the GOTY - not the upgrade). Also, my manage keys screen does not show the GOTY

But manage keys DOES show all the GOTY weapons as being unlocked.

thought you might want to look into that glitch since it may be what is causing the confusion for several people here.

I bought the GOTY game at EBgames like.....2 years ago and just created a separate account with it. I can't get purchase the fire imp by itself, i'm assuming since I already have the standard GoTY edition from a store. Not that I was planning on buying it, since it's just a spare, but I thought it was weird that I didn't see the 08 upgrade.(unless I missed something, then.....>.>)

Does the bonus mission pack doesn't count for this one?
