Trade Merchant for Torment gems?
Sekhmet
Think the title says it all.
As a full time Ritualist, I'm a proud member of the classes that don't get to go into DoA, rather since the Ursan nerf (Which was greatly needed) I can no longer enter into this zone.
Now, before you jump to conclusions I'm an antisocial lock-in that wants a free pass to nice things hear me out.
Pre-Ursan -> if you spammed for a group as an R8 lb Rit wanna guess how many groups wanted you? take a guess, its less than 1.
Ursan Age-> if you spammed for a group as a R8lb R10 Ursan, took about 2-3 minutes to find a full party with monks. No one judged you based on your class, rather your titles were a bigger facet of it.
Post-Ursan == Pre-Ursan --> Ursan needed the nerf it hurt the game a lot more than it helped in a lot of places except places like DoA. You know what I mean, places that are exclusively dominated by the trinity builds. Not a Trap\Barrage ranger, OB tank, Monk, Ele? Too bad. It is an extremely good build but it is the only option for a PuG in DoA.
Also, look at Destroyer weapons, every facet of them is purchasable, its a bit of a walk to get to the seller but other than that still a monetary issue more than a skill issue to claim them.
please allow the Gemstones needed to make the armbrace be contained in the rare-material merchant or even go to the extent of having a single gemstone trader in the DoA staging ground.
As far as economy would go this would open up some new avenues of money for those out to turn a profit as well.
Pro: Now people will need runs through a zone of DoA in order to create the armbrace[s]. Full team runs would likely be the only option therefore opening a huge market to do so.
Con: Easily outweighed by the Pro, the cost of the gemstones will stabilize and drop as more and more enter and leave the market. Like any other rare material the price will drop, the difference with these though is that there is a substantial hurdle to turn them in. Unless you want to gamble with the coffer
Just my two cents, please keep the comments constructive.

I understand your situation, and your probably not gonna like my answer. Tormented weapons are suppose to be hard to get, they're considered rare weapons. Adding a trader for the gems will kill the market for the weapons, therefore killing their status as well
mastar of warrior
if you want your gemstones , i would consider getting another character there for farming.

DoA is an ELITE area....apperently the Pugs in the zone at the time weren't very experienced themselves.
Why do players label certain builds as 'trinity'?
Whenever I played my Rit in DoA..I certainly wasn't running a bar that others would... ...I just abused my secondary...ALOT. (And if you use the search functon under 'Killing Mallyx'..you will see how we old-timers did it with every profession imaginable)
OH, and I have to agree with Lord Scro....it's not so much about the amassing of gems for profit, as the 'just getting enough for the weapon or coffer'.
NO SHORT CUTS!

This have many possible outcome in the future (if implemented)..
1) The lower rich class (a.k.a poor >_> ) will not too bother by it, but will love to know that in couple months they will be able to get it themselves.
2) The middle rich class, will love this and get couple of this to COMPLETE their MONUMENTS.
3) The upper rich class will hate this since the price will go down and armbrace won't be able to used for trading measure like previously.
Another, it will make DoA's ATMOSPHERE a fun place, not a scary elite area because all player now can hang around with the classes that are previously omitted.
However, the 3rd part is rarely will take place anyway, so it will not matter too much IMO.
I personally think that one day, near the GW2 release, Anet will implement something like this, something that are all related to HoM accomplishment, so that all player from all segments finally can at least fill their HoM.
Oh well, only time will tell..
Personally, I'd love the update as such!

Not to sound rude or anything...
But I have noticed all that have posted here are sporting guild tags.
Have yall gotten together with your guilds, and formed your own 'pugs'?
That way...you can pick and choose what classes YOU want...instead of this 'trinity' thing everyone speaks of?
Or even browse the threads for the player match ups...they have the same goals as you?

Tomes, Hero Armor pieces, Weapons, Trophies...
Thos will never get Traders.
ONLY things that can be used up like dyes, runes, and materials will.
So, the only thing left that needs a trader is Weapon upgrades.

If torment weapons are going to be put into the HoM I feel they should at least be mildly accessible to the middle class players not the upper elite 5%. ALSO I AM NOT ASKING FOR ARMBRACES in the merchant. Just the gems, this keeps the exclusivity of the items because you'll still need to be competent enough to go out and redeem your goodies.
Besides, gems are already worth less than 10k a piece and with a material merchant for them and the farmers able to get the gems, it will open up new avenues for trading. Instead of the tried and true ecto and the armbrace for the only tradables now, then you'll have ecto,4 gem types, and armbraces to trade with.
MithranArkanere
No.
Not all NPCs that trade are traders.
- Merchant: Directly sells items.
- Crafter: Takes materials and gold and makes items.
- Artisan: Takes materials and gold and makes other materials.
- Collector: Takes trophies and gives items.
- Traders: Buys and sells items that drop from many creatures in many places which have value different to 0 and will or may be destroyed upon use.
Gems are somehow a kind of trophy. Trophies do not have traders.
Tomes, Weapons, Keys, Festival items, Trophies, etc...
For them we may need a Xunlai Market, but they will never get a Trader.

it would just take some marginal re-coding to create a market for them, set them as a rare material or rather keep their trophy status and create a trader that deals exclusively in them at the DoA outpost, have the price be based on supply/demand as was the old market.
have the start price be at say 10k for any given type and adjust accordingly based on the supply given and the demand for them.
Prices will be high the first few weeks but should stabilize eventually around 4-5k for the non rares and the titans stabilizing a little higher.

As you are frustrated with the holy trinity setups, people looking for warriors and eles will get equally frustrated to find just Ritualists. So, my suggestion, play all the classes and enjoy!
As far as gemstones are concerned, I wish there was a merchant to sell these to. After HoM update, there many be some action in DOA.
Sekhmet
@Vel, I have other characters, what I dont want to do is be forced to run flavors to accomplish tasks.
The main point I'm trying to make is to allow all classes a viable means of getting the gems.
And your second comment about them being frustrated seeing Rits in DoA? HAh.
I'd be willing to bet 1/2 the people don't even see the other classes they aren't looking for explicitly.
At its core, the issue lies with the balance of the classes, the trinity builds would not exist if the "less desired" classes were properly buffed to the point where they were a viable alternative.

Not a bad idea and would be a nice thing.
Status...lol. Personally, the majority (not all things mind you) of the "elite status" items, I find quite ugly. And the only reason I see to bother with them is to fill HoM or to sell.
Would a gem merch/trader be nice to have? Yes. Will it be done? Doubtful.
And I would agree that a person should not be forced to create a new char and play it just to accomplish something. But that's the way the cookie crumbles I guess. Not much you can do unless the makers decide to change things.

I would not mind it , but it will ruin other peoples day since it would set a value to it.
Captain Bulldozer
Why not check out PvX from time to time? If you had, you would probably have found a very nice farming team build called DOA RITWAY, which works in a similar way to the more popular cryway teams. It just uses big rit nukes instead of cry of pain. Shouldn't be too hard (with the support of these forums) to get a ritway team together...
Or as others have said, you can always go R/Me and be a cryer. A gem trader is not a realistic option, after all they are DESIGNED to be hard to get.

Shadowmoon
Wow, reading the comment people do not understand how traders works. Traders are a NPC that buy items from players and sell them back to other players for a inflated amount. Item do not magically appear out of nowhere from these things, they sell out, look at the week of no Sup Shadowarts Rune. This is not a issue of making them easier to get or makign them lose value, it a issue of not wanting to stand around in DoA, that is relatively a ghost town now, and trying to buy gems from few to none people there.
Now on topic, yes I would like to see more items available to traders. I beleive DoA gems has the same need of one as do tomes, and also hero armor. The problem is traders appear to be very difficult to make, and that once made have a high probablity of having a bug in them, and causing an economic disacter (100g ecto anyone;P). Of course your suggestion of adding them to a pre existing trader probably might not cause these problems, but i don't know the gw code.

I don't get it, there are 10 classes in the game but some people don't see the benefit of having more than 1.
"Oh noes i'm a Rit and they won't me in, life sucks!"
No! You're not a Rit, you're a player in a game callled Guild Wars and the makers have kindly seen fit to allow you to make more then one class of character to allow players to branch out and not just play the same thing for 3 bloody years.
And don't give me "Oh but its my main."
You dont have to play every character through every game and max every title and do every quest and get max weapons for every stupid hero. I have 6 chars and only one of them has completed every campaign, the others can get as far as to where they are at somewhere useful. (My poor little monk can only go to ToA, bless her)
Seriously, use another character to DOA and stop whining.
oh and /notsigned to suggestion.

@OP you cannot get everything on the silver plate. If you restrict yourself to play with your main then you have to face all the possible drawbacks it brings. There is no need to have NPC like that. It will make it all much too easy and will destroy satisfaction several people had when they finally managed to get those stones by themselves.
Yawgmoth
Reminder for everyone :: All that a trader NPC does is RESELLING what players sold to him and efficiently speeding up the trades. He won't generate gems out of thin air so they will still need to be farmed before people will be able to buy them. It's just a trading improvement, not an easy way to get gems.
And trade improvements are always good.

As too all of you saying I want things on a silver plate,
I do not, but since they added the Torment weapons to the HoM now it is time to bring them up to pace with the other set of "Elite" weapons represented in our HoMs'.
I truly don't see the issue with what I'm posing.
Allow the gems to be bought, I don't have to farm 110 obsidian shard or 110 diamonds or 1100 iron ingots or how about the 2750 granite cant forget the 55k. why should i need to farm 440 torment gems to get a full set for my hall? The raw amount of money involved just to buy them gems would be enough to bankrupt very wealthy individuals. And that is now, a merchant would allow the price to be controlled by the raw supply, not by the demands of others trying to control the market.
You need to get the gems, you still need to get all of the armbraces, I don't want the armbraces for sale in a merchant, NEVER. I want a means to get the gems which allows it to be realistic and attainable. Whether you choose to farm your gems or to buy them, One way you farm till your eyes bleed to afford the gems, the other, you farm till your eyes bleed collecting the gems.
Either way the end result is identical.

This discussion isn't really about having a new kind of NPC, it's about difficult areas being difficult.
Personally I love the trader concept and wish they were available for everything, but I think the trader we need most is one for inscriptions and mods.

I don't see the Trader having much of an inventory.
Lykan is right and so are those who say "get a guild team" tbh if you would just sit down and think about how you could make your Ritulist useful in DoA and create a build chances are you would end up having some fun, but no, youd rather spend time QQing and asking that things be handed to you instead of trying.
I have a DoA trophy in my hall, On my Ranger, and I didn't use Ursan to do it, I came up with a R/N build that aided my team mates to the point where they would say "Orange, were are doing DoA and we need you" and I had fun doing it, and I earned my rewards.
OMG PvE is just sooooooooo hard and there are soooooo many elitists, rofl

The reverse is also true. You can buy runes, dye, etc. from another player cheaper than you can buy it from the traders. Yet, the traders DO make sales.
Some people are willing to take less from or pay more to traders as an alternative to standing around Kama for an unknown amount of time staring at the walls waiting for a reply to their WTS/WTB. Those who like the trading game can play it. Those who don't can buy/sell from the traders and get back to doing something they enjoy more. Everybody is happy.

I'm genuinely surprised by the hostility,
I am aware of the pvx wiki, I know the builds that get me groups, I'm aware that guild groups exert something called tolerance.
What you don't seem to grasp is that a vendor for the gems will allow a larger section of people to access these elite weapons.
You seem to think that torment weapons will magically get easier to get by the gems being accessible?
Hardly, anyone can tell you that once you have a build that can run the zones, its only a time factor until you get as many or as few weapons as you want.
This is merely allowing you to shorten the damning grind in the game and allow people to run it if they want to, not because they have too.
