Advice on a good keyboard
Fril Estelin
Hi all,
I'm considering buying a new good keyboard, since my Microsoft Comfort Curve 2000 seems to be less efficient that I'd like sometimes.
I was very interested into the Microsoft Reclusa one, since it's powered by Razer and I've got one of their great mouse, but it didn't feel as "smooth" as I'd like when I tried it.
I'd like to have one that feels a little bit more smooth and comfortable when you type. And most importantly, one that is irreproachable on quality, ensuring that typing is fast and efficient. Other features are just a plus.
Any of you have any advice on that? What about the Logitech G11? G15? The Raptor Gaming K2? Razer Tarantula or Lycosa?

When you've typed on that, you will never want anything else, and it's cheap too!
I'm using my second now.

Do not get this one if you think that a lighted keyboard is up your alley.
The problem with this one is that the blue LED light shows through the characters on the keys, which, ironically, makes them damn near impossible to recognize - I usually have to turn the lights off to be able to see which key I'm pressing!
I only sit there and suffer with it because my wife told me it was a bad keyboard to buy, and I strenuously objected, and bought it anyway.
Next time I'll listen to her.

This is the keyboard I'm using. Not a gaming-specific keyboard like the G15, but stylish and comfortable. Probably better keyboards out there though.

So you guys say that the Logitech UltraX and 510 (they're american models from all I undestand, I'm in Europe but will probably find equivalent ones) are confortable to type with? And fast response?
And I know the G15 (and it's little sister the G11), legacyofkain85, I'd like to know whether it's more comfortable than a Microsoft Reclusa for example. I'm not looking for an uber-keyboard for gaming, I'd like to know what people find "comfortable" for a keyboard.
Ty all for your messages.
EDIT: I also tried the Logitech Corded Wave in a store and I wasn't convinced, it felt a little worse than the Microsoft Comfort Curve.

I use a G15 and love it. Lots of features and a slight click when a key is pressed. I find the click reassuring in that I know I haven't missed a key

I also use the G15 2007 edition. It is efficient and also has that comfort level that you are looking for. With it and my Razor Lachesis I'm gaming with top edge in my Lounge chair and loving it.
Cons for the G15 18 Macro buttons, Gaming mode so you don't it the stupid Windows Key while gaming. Easy on the fly Macro recordings.
Ever get tired of Hitting 7 on the keyboard for Glyph of lesser followed by 6 on the keyboard for Heal Party. Just make it a macro to press 7 followed by 8 and you make your heal party from 2 keys to 1. LCD screen is a plus can change my music without ever having to minimize GW, Check the time without ever having to minimize GW's. Makes you playing time more effective getting done what you had planed on getting done. Most sites will ship out of states for an extra cost if I recall.

What's your budget. Becouse I really like the G15, it's comfortable, resistant and very functional, but allso expensive. I've spend years playing on a microsoft natural keyboard and it was as nearly as good as my G15 is.
Be aware that the UltraX is like a laptop keyboard, which I personally do not like.
Allso, what is the part you don't like about your current keyboard? Lay-out? Keystrokes?
According to this picture your keyboard is pretty similar to the G11/G15 so maybe thats not what you're looking for?

If serious, how good is it? How does it fell to the touch?
EDIT: nice white WASD, but one review says that there's keylag and that's the kind of problem I want to avoid here!
Lord Sojar
Other reviews give it great scores, besting the G15 from Logitech. My friend has one, and I plan on replacing my G15 (blue version) when it dies with the Cyborg 2. It is an amazing keyboard from my experience with it, and I am very demanding of keyboards.
DarkNecrid
Get the G15, trust me on this. Best keyboard I have ever used.
Ever.
Ever.
Lord Sojar
I disagree. I think Logitech has gone downhill. Yes, the blue model G15 is amazing, but the newer one...uh...meh? The new Saitek Cyborg keyboard = amazing, on par with the blue G15 from Logitech.
And actually, the best keyboard on the market right now is... I can't believe I am going to say this...
Microsoft Sidewinder X6.

The thing is a beast. I use the Sidewinder mouse, and it rips Logitech a new one in quality and design.

The keyboard looks terrible and having a keyboard that looks sexy and is functional is important to me, which the blue G15 is.
Also (kidding of course) but the day Microsoft makes a product that doesn't suck, they'll make a vacuum cleaner. lololo
Seriously, that kb looks NEATO (the cyborg one looks drat terrible tbh), but it doesn't look sexy. Sexiness is important to me Rahja.

I gave up on Logitech when they changed their warranty system. I don't want to have an email conversation over three weeks to get a mouse replaced. And then you have to ship them the broken mouse. That was December and I never received the replacement.
I broke my Zboard, which sucked for regular typing, even with the basic insert. I ran out to replace it with anything and all I could find off-the-shelf was a Microsoft Pro Media keyboard. Believe it or not, it is the most comfortable keyboard I have used since I owned an IBM board. Great key response also.
I am not necessarily pushing this model, but if it is an example of what Microsoft is offering, I would go for the Microsoft edition of the style you prefer.

I've got a G11 and it's done fine for me. I'm not ridiculous about my gaming, so I'm sure there's something better though.
Oh, but please do me a favor - buy this BAMF keyboard and let me borrow it sometime? My personal favorite special feature: "Play a GIF animation or Quicktime movie on a Key"
Edit: never mind, just saw they won't ship outside of US

G15 for the win.. Got 3 of them.

send me one.
i'm still using an old dell USB keyboards. it's not one of those minimalistic ones fortunately.
btw, how would you judge a keyboard's responsiveness? do you measure it by how hard you need to press down the key to get an effect? i can't imagine keyboards actually "lagging", as in key inputs being too slow.

"Touch" is the key press; "comfort" is the layout and other physical stuff; "lag" is just that. You can actually feel the long response (even though it's like microseconds) time.
I gave up using wireless keyboards and mice for gaming due to perceivable lag.

Ty for the very usefull feedback to all! I'm going to try the G15 later today and see whether it feels as good as its quality suggests.
Anyone has one of the Razer keyboards (Lycosa, Tarentula)? If so, how does it feel when typing? I.e. is it rather the mechanic type where you feel the typing quite a lot, or is it smoother and more organic?

No really... the Microsoft Sidewinder X6 is amazing.. I wasn't joking.

haven't tried the Sidewinder X6 myself yet so can't judge about it but my personal favor still goes to the zboard for now (yes i tried the blue Logitech G15 it's not my thing)

I have a Ideazon MERC Stealth and can not complain it is great for FPS gaming and works just fine for everything else, i used to have the older ZBoard but having to swap and change keys around gets old after a while so i opted to change to this new one.

Ty everyone, I think you've convinced me to buy a G15, though it feels less "organic" than the MS Comfort Curve 2000. Ty again for all your feedback, even if not related to G15!

G15 is the way to go i love it for typing (comfortable IMO) and gaming.
Lord Sojar
but the orange G15 is so bad....
Flinte
Razer Tarantula is by far the best keyboard I have ever owned.... By far the best keyboard ever for 18 bucks!!!

I have the newer G15 and it feels great except for the Macro Mode buttons. I have to press on them rather hard to get them to switch macros.

I have this keyboard as well. I love it for the game pad on the left, however, The paint is chipping on several keys less than a year after buying it and their customer service is all through the frustrating "ticket" and email process which REALLY pisses me off. It's a great keyboard other than that one thing.
