How do you predict Xunlai tournament?

Hey, I''m just a little bit curious as to how people predict the xunlai tournament house and get a lot of reward points. I tried setting mine up with the GvG, 1v1s with the highest Q.P. but didn't get that many. Are their certain ones to vote for that don't usually have high Q.P. but are better? (Please close if this thread is already been made)

To be honest I just put the names that sound nice in random order down the list. Netted me 80 points this most recent bout.

I would be curious to see how the 'pros' do it, though. Probably just knowing the teams and knowing how good they are from experience I suppose.

I do exactly the same thing, just pick the names I like the best and drop them in random order =P

In general you don't actually pick them. Even if you pick the players most likely to make top 8, you're unlikely to pick the right order (mostly because of shit pairings), and for HB, you're lucky if you get anyone (but folks like Massacre and Juju are usually good picks).

Edit: in general guilds with lots of QPs don't do as well, something to keep in mind.

Its hard to predict acurately if you don't observe and watch the guild ladder a lot. I regularly get 125 rp's +, but I can spend whole mornings on observe, checking the ladder, and speaking to tolkano to look at last nights tournaments. QP's, for those of you who don't know, are qualifier points, you get up to 8 when you participate in a daily tournament. So, the guilds with the most QP's may just farm the 'dead' aT's, where there are something only about 3 teams who play, thereby guarenteeing them 6 QP's.

If you don't have enough intrest in GvG to observe a lot, take a while before making your predictions to check the guild ladder
http://www.guildwars.com/competitive/ladder/default.php
Look at the last colume where it shows the QP's... if a team have 20 or more, they can participate in the monthly. Look down the ladder at every team who have 20 or more QP's, and a generally safe way is just to put the teams in order of rank. For example, if guild ranks 1,3,6,7 all have 20 QP's, place them in that order. While you then miss out all of the new guilds, or smurfs and all that, it is a much better way of prediciting that just looking at the QP's. More QP's just mean they are more active in tournies, and does not mean they are better.

I usually copy paste the gvg prediction and make the 1v1 random.

I usually read the prediction thread(s) to find out if certain guilds are going to play or not. And if they do, how much chance they give themselves. For the rest, in GvG you basically have a small amount of certain picks that get to top 16 almost every time and depending on pairing can get into the top 8.

I watch the ladder and do some observing. From the Xunlai Tournament House, you can look at the results of the last few months' worth of MAT's, which can at least indicate who's been doing consistently well. A team in the last few top 8's? Sure, I'll put them in the top 8 somewhere--maybe up a few spots from previously, maybe the same.
165 points last month. 105 this month--which is clearly not so hot. But it's still free Z Keys.

Keep in mind...
people with high qualifier points may just be people who grind a LOT and play in tournaments frequently. They may lose a lot, but the fact that they play a lot makes them have a high number of QP.
Just like how being Rank 9 doesn't mean you are a better player then somebody who is rank 4.

The BEST way to win points is to do some research (ie, read the PvP forum's here).
The second best way is to look on the Xunlai site for the tournment results from the last few months. Ie, look for guilds that usually finishes in the top 12 every month.
Also, 1v1 players can change their name every month, so it is much harder to do that with that methiod unless they use a similar word in all their character's names (like Smurf).

I choose the people and guilds with the highest point scores, or ones I know have done well in the past. I usually get between 50-100 reward points though I missed the boat this month.

For GvG, look at the winners from past months, you'll see a lot of repeat names. As for QP, many of the top guilds don't bother getting more than the required 20 points, so high QP only shows that they participated in more ATs.

It's a bit harder for 1v1 because many players change their names every month to try to hide their identity from opponents. This is because 1v1 has become very Rock-Paper-Scissors, and if you know your opponent uses Rock most of the time, then...
So I usually just pick random names.
