Dervish newbie
kupp
Hello.
I've been playing with my warrior for nearly as long as I've been playing GW. Some time ago I got Nightfall and decided to give dervishes a try, wich I enjoy playing but not half as much as with warrios, imo because I tend do place the dervish in it's role. Now, I wanna break away from this play style and try something diferent, and thought why not give dervishes a decent try. Since then I've been trying to make a decent PvE build, but I really don't know how to begin or the way I should go, since what I end up doing is putting some attack+self healing skills much like I would on my warrior. This is the average build I've been running lately:
[build=OgCjkyrG7OAYmL0VcPuZvlXMOA]
The stats are
Scythe 12+1+1
Mysticism 11+1
Earth 6
I'd like to hear some opinions on this, if possible how to improve it and if I'm headed in the right direction... Or if I should get something completely diferent.
Cheers!

Not bad but drop zealous renewal, victorious sweep and mystic regen. Take chilling victory or eremites (your choice in PvE I prefer eremites). Take [eternal aura] it can be obtained in Kamadan from the hero skill trainer I believe, if you have factions take [aura of holy might], and [attackers insight]. Drop your spec from earth and spec into wind for attackers (only need to spec 6).

Skills 1-4 and 8 are good.
Skills 5-7 are meh.
Mystic Regeneration is only good, like Healing Breeze, in 55HP Monking and splitting. I'd rather use Healing Breeze because it lasts longer and works on party members.
Zealous Renewal is a weak skill because of the following reasons:The energy comes in after 20 seconds. By that time you would have regenerated it.The damage isn't significant either, so in that time you were casting that skill you could have done more damage hitting the target.
Faithful Intervention is a pretty weak skill, and considering you have your secondary open you might aswell buy a mod suitable for Conjure X for a permanently maintainable enchantment.
If you really want energy management, Attacker's Insight is practically free of attribution because it needs the tiny requirement of 4 to affect 2 attack skills, which can be got with a rune on your common attribute split.
If you have Factions, I extremely recommend Aura of Holy Might as it increases your damage output dramatically. Keep in mind this disallows you to use a Conjure, but will increase your damage even more than a Conjure will. Wild Blow is also a decent skill to use on a scythe simply because scythe crits are stupid, and this removes stances and is unblockable, which could be a major strength when it comes to grouped up Kournan mobs or heavy defensive stance areas.

Generally, as you asked, you're headed in the right direction. The build is decent but it could use a little improvement.
The main thing I'd say to do is drop Mystic Regen so you can move around those Earth Prayers attributes. Also, Zealous Renewal isn't needed much unless you plan on using 10 energy enchantments and the like. With Mystic Regen and Zealous renewal out, it leaves open two spots.
You'll probably want another enchantment to make full use out of Mystic Sweep. Consider Aura of Holy Might if you have Factions and a rank in Kurz/Lux allegiance. If that's not an option, it doesn't matter really. Something cheap and lasts a decent amount of time. As for that other open spot... Chilling Victory. Fun fun.
And consider Reaper's Sweep over Wounding Strike. It's a matter of preference, but I personally like Reaper's Sweep more in PvE, while I feel Wounding Strike is more for PvP. As far as recommendations go here you'll get something different from everyone but in the end it's your own choice as to what feels effective that matters the most.

Thank you all for replying. I've done some tweaking and been running on this:
[build=OgGjkyqG7OA4gyAG6KuJ3lXMOA]
Personally, I like it. Lost the Mystic Sweep because I felt that was the most unecessary attack of them all, since the other 3 all have some specific purpose. But know without it, I feel that the Faithfull Intervention isn't really needed since I kept him mainly because it's a free enchant with no upkeep cost. Any opinions on what to replace it with? I'm leaning towards some utility skill or preferebly a self healing, but other than Mystic Regen don't know what and with only 3 enchants it's not that big a deal.
Also, is there anything I should use to get the blind off me? I get shutdown all the time until dunkoro removes it from me, and if that's the top condition... I'd go for Antidote Signet but the Wild Blow is really usefull specially against sins.

I have factions but don't have it unlocked yet, working on it tough. I like Victorious Sweep cause I get +84hp per hit, on 3 hits the hp gained is pretty significant. I'd lose wild blow but an unblockable strike is pretty useful...

Are you runnin a superior scythe rune?? Those aren't a very good idea on a front liner you know!

Good idea........

This is the bar i use.
[Wounding strike][mystic sweep][eremite's attack]["Save yourselves"][Heart of fury]["i am unstoppable"][attacker's insight][faithful intervention]
Area with stupid block !! i take [wild blow] instead of [eremite's attack]
This ["save yourselves"] is your party protection specially with a scythe.
Playing dervish is all about positioning
If you use heroes, bring a Order Dervish with you and you'll have infinite energy to spam your 3 attack skills on recharge. oh and [splinter weapon] on a heroe is ftw !!!!

Positioning should be integrated in every single part of the game.
For example, you don't want a Monk in the frontlines do you? You should be kiting as much as possible and casting when neccesary. Well, I Monk on the frontlines with my caster sword but that's another story.

Going for 3 warriors bunch up all together instead of going a loner monk is ftw
The important things with my build is to spam attack skills and keep SY all the time.

/disagree
kill the monk first, you wont do much to the warriors anyways, and if they are bunched up they are focused on one target which makes life very easy for your monks anyways.

and with splinter on me things goes boom ! I'd stick with the 3 warriors.

Heal Party, Healing Ribbon, Light of Deliverance, I guess you get the picture. There is also Aegis too. However, if SY is being used, I would still be going for unprotted casters. The Monk should be able to hold it's ground and hopefully hold the aggro too, just using WoH everytime it's needed. Casters drop alot faster. |
