Ten Ton Hammer: Are we going to see more announcements of big AAA titles in the next few months?

David: We do have Aion coming out for a NC West release in 2009, and Aion - make no mistake - is cut from the same cloth as Lineage and Guild Wars. We have publicly announced Guild Wars 2 in the past, and you can probably expect that in 2009 we'll talk more about it. We're also going to be discussing taking some of these titles that have really been PC only sort of clients thus far and taking them out to other platforms.

They can't hold out that long. They have competition with Blizzards Wrath of the Lich King, Starcart, and Diablo 3. Funcom's Age of Conan, and there might be one more that I cant think of off the top of my head. In a previous update they stated that they moved 8-9 members off of GW2 back to the GW1 team.

What time do you slack of team member. I'm sure that they have GW2 pretty much setup and ready to roll just fixes some minor things. With all the competition they have I see a info in 2009 which is only about 3 months away, beta Q1 or Q2, and a release in Q2-Q3. Unless they start doing some major updates to GW1 it will not last the time span. GW1 is already slowly dieing out for those who have had the game for 2-3+ years all we have is title RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOs and Elite areas and goof off on professions that we don't normally play.

No.

They were doing concept art barely before EOTN came out, and after EOTN came out, just started actual graphic and texture making. They are nowhere near done.

I expected that and I'm not really surprised, yet can't say I'm not disappointed to see it confirmed. Come on, there's more info, videos, screenshots and whatnot on D3 - which has been officially announced a short while back - than on GW2... I find it rather sad that ANet is pushing information to 2009. (But yet it was expected).

Ah well, I'll have other games to play if I get -really- bored of GW.

AoC is already dying, no-one is going to care about Lich King in 2010, Starcraft is not competition in the PvE (majority) market. It's not really even competition in the PvP sector because it's just another RTS, wheras GW still has nothing comparable. D3 is the only competition in the "fee-less online RPG time waster" category and is likely to be delayed to just as late a release.

Really. Anet doesn't mind if you play other games in the meantime. They know 95% of their customers will come back to check GW2 out, because it's not like you have to commit to a fee. That was the whole point of their expansion-based business model.

GW has been out for over three years and new people are still buying it. Why? - NO PAY TO PLAY. This is still the biggest draw to new players. It will still be a draw for GW2, maybe GW3 or as far as ANet wants to take it.

I don't think either ArenaNet or NCSoft are worried about a lack of customers. What they are worried about is making sure the game works before releasing it. Look at the complaints about the new releases for the past year - unfinished, not enough content, broken system, doesn't have this, doesn't have that, too much grind, level too fast, not worth the monthly fee. While ANet knows that there will be plenty of moaning no matter how great GW2 is in the end, they want to make sure that the game satisfies most of their customer base. They did state that the "beta" would take place very close to the release of the game.

So announcements in 2009 might mean beta in 2009 and possibly the game by April 2010. Nothing like traditional anniversary dates. And this is all speculation, but it is fun.

This was suspected and confirmed a long time ago....
I expect them not to say anything until Aion has had it's share, WoW:WLK, WAR, and LOTRO's expansion + D3, are done having thier pie.
XD
No beta....GM's said so, a long time ago.

This.

Remember that ANet was mostly headhunted from Blizzard. They know about polish. No baby of theirs will be heading out into the world without being buffed to a mirror shine. And while the wait makes me sad, I look forward to seeing the finished product.

They've talked about it before (on wiki talk pages, etc.)

Plus if the game was anywhere near completion, they'd release info by now.

Their marketing department isn't stupid.

Is anyone ACTUALLY surprised about this?

They have 2 years till release, give or take, and it's ANet. Needless to say GW2 will both suck and blow at the same time, and will fail vs other games.

Not surprised what so ever. I think anet knows what they are doing...

Still sad for no beta this year though :/

Not surprised.

But... umm... they DON'T actually say they won't say anything about GW2 in 2008, just that they will be saying stuff about it in 2009.

They still might give some teaser info. It just means the majority of the info won't be out until later (no surprsing, the game is still a far ways away).

But seriously, stop misreading/misinterpresting things. That's the biggest thing that gets the GW's community in trouble.

The number of times I've seen Galie/Regina say "we will NOT have feature x, y and z" followed by posts saying "OMG GW is going to have feature x, y, and z" followed by "OMG they won't have feature x, y, and z, they lied to us" is asstounding. Reading comprehension PLEASE.

I agree that it is possible that they could drop a teaser before the end of 2008, and that's why I added the weasel-word "likely" to the subject.

But, the guy's answer... even if you have to extrapolate... seem like a pretty safe bet that no information not pertaining to Aion their next "AAA title" will be released in 2008.

It is sad though that the only recent thing I have heard about GW2 is Jeff Grubb, their freakin' writer (one of them anyway), saying the game was a beautiful thing and anything that takes them away from it (re PAX) was not a good thing.

In response to the post about all the other games, IMHO, Warhammer Online is going to be GW2 biggest competitor. GW2 will still have GvG as its crown jewel, but WAR has Keeps. WAR is PvP-focused and does not require much time to play. WAR has Public Quests to GW2's "events." I think ANet probably is really interested to see how WAR plays out before launching their hype machine, which could seriously overlap with WAR's features.

Congratulations, you win the thread. Anet has always been good about releasing a product that works out of the box, even if they add most of the polish over time.

They would probably prefer that not every person who has ever bought a GW chapter play all the time non-stop, since they'd have to run a lot more servers which would not be offset by more monthly fees being collected.

I think anet has done an incredible job with Guild Wars, and I will happily play it here and there until GW2 is ready to go. There have been too many franchises ruined by poorly done sequals (Unreal Tournament comes to mind). I'd just as soon they take however long they need to get things right before releasing.

As long as they are actively working on gw2 and listening to the customer's reviews and input, I dont mind the wait. I think even most of the people who q.q and say they rage quit and wont even check out GW2, will check it at some point. The curiosity bug bites hard.

I also have my eye on AION. Looks promising. I would love if GW2 had a nice character creation as interesting as AION's looks on the trailer.

I will keep playing gw1 for as long as I am entertained there and have friends playing with me. GW2 will be checked as well unless Anet does something really outrageous that makes me lose total faith in the company.
