Getting horrible ping on college campus
NoPantsRepublic
I moved to college recently and it requires that I run Cisco NAC Web Agent to connect to the internet. My speed is fine on my web browser (firefox), and I've taken a speed test and it came up great. However, my ping in GW is anywhere from 1600 to 3600, which makes the game unplayable. Any reason for this? I've tried putting -port 80 in the shortcuts command line by recommendation of a friend, but it didnt help. Any assistance is appreciated.

i can't offer any advice but im just agreeing with you. I'm at a small private college and we get crappy internet 24/7 but i belive that the other students using it is to blame. Some times i get great ping! thats at 2 am tho.... mayb you should try different times of the day/night? bc multipul ppl hooked up to the same internet can drag it down. but then u said that ur normal browser is fine.. so that disproves my advice. idk im just here to complain with ya man! 2000-4000 ping is very misurable i can only buy/sell things since that doesn't require good ping. im done ranting for now!

Bandwidth shaper most likely.

If you forward your port (if not, nevermind), make your computer find IP address automatically.

Most universities block specific sections of ports, namely those associated with some games (some unis and colleges block all game ports to promote better academics). The fact is, your university probably is blocking off a port that is common to Guild Wars.
The only choice you have is to contact the university's network management center and discuss the port with them. Usually and unfortunately, they don't have sympathy for gaming requests though.
Option 2: Move off campus and get your own apartment and own internet (or apartment provided internet)

Its all lies! I play guild wars at school, and they tell you they block the ports. When i first bring up gw it says connecting.....then goes error can't connect retry? then i hit enter twice really fast, and i get on LOL
