The future of GW
Axis
... is bright!
Afther trying out different online games the past few years i realised how much Im looking forward to GW2.
AoC promised a lot, but failed to deliver. It has still great potencial but it will take long time before the game deliveres.
Lotr is a fun pve game, but I miss the pvp!
WoW... no comment, not my type of game.
Warhammer... havent tryed it yet, but the combat system looks a bit slow and I feel its kind of WoW2. Im maybe going to buy it this weekend and try it out.
What do you think?
What do you think?
Aion is not out yet, but the fighting reminds me of Final Fantasy where you attack in rounds. The game also looks too asian... and there is a reason that many asian games fail in Europe/America
What I love about GW is the skills/combat system and the pvp, which is probably the best when it comes to fantasy games.

tried several other MMORPG's myself too and ach time returned to GW in not really long time. Yep, played GW too much and got used to it so much that it's hard to change and get used to something so new. Looking forward to GW2 really

All of the new mmos are a huge disappointment. I bought WAR last night and I'm not impressed in the least. The pve reminds me too much of WoW, and the pvp is laughable. Eh, but that's another rant.
I'm gonna try WAR for a few more months, but I'm more than likely going to head straight back to GW.

Won't even ask, if you tried to get to T2 or at least level 10 (although that's almost same - all my characters had access to T2 before level 12, although it's harder then). Not to mention trying to take over an enemy objective/attack a fort.
About GW - what's the future of a dead game? Rotting in the coffin.

gw is still the best mmo imho even if it is old.....bring on the ice age, bout damn time to!

I think the real problem is that all mmo or coop online games by now have a "been there done that" feeling for experienced players.
All that can be new in a game is where you going to "been" and how you are going to "done that."
Add in targeting of new games to younger players, with cross platform to consoles, and you get games that do not require much of a learning curve or attention span. You get to "done that" a lot sooner.

Guild Wars 1 has been dead a long time, but, you still have the dedicated and those that are in what do they call it? Oh Denial that just won't let a dead horse lie.
When they see the grind in GW2 they will be a screaming you can bet as that is the path that GW is now on and will take. Out with the old and in with the new and NCsoft/Arena Net are banking on more regular mmo players to play GW2 than the casuals of GW1.
At any rate Anarchy Online and Notum wars is FREE now if you want something different to play for awhile.

Let me guess - PvP is laughable, because you can't gank players 20 levels lower, outdo anyone at your level or 5+ thanks to equipment or solo 5 people at one time? Yeah, it sucks.
|
Targeting is another issue. I'll be damned if I didn't have a hard time clicking on an enemy that was surrounded by my teammates.
Yeah, I am kinda disappointed that you can't gank lower levels, but I'll deal. The equipment I'm not having that much of a problem with. I'm really not upset about not being able to solo 5 people at once. Used to it because of GW. Unless I'm shadowforming it up.

Consumables do make it a bit bollocks, but at your level they give what 200-300 hp and have a 3minute cooldown so they're barely gamebreaking and everyone has easy access to them so its fair game.
As to seeing if you're attacks hit, look for your blood lust building/depleting in the centre of your skillbar.
You're only at 6 so far, so i'd imagine you probably havent got any blood lust req skills yet or morales, they add a bit more depth to melee attacks. I too was unimpressed at that level but it gets better and i'm only at 13 so far.
Witch elf does need a better snare though, but then we get shadow prowler which is funny.
Btw bind auto run off of num lock to a more usable key then use right mouse button to move as you attack, works pretty well.
Back to future of GW, more and more will "leave" the game, less and less will join. But due to the fact you can always come back the last nail won't be hit in the coffin for a while.

Guild wars is going through the stages of MMO death.
we've already seen an eco crash, nothing is worth jack anymore so the developers try and try to introduce new gold sinks. (titles, tonics, uber rare minis) People are stupidly rich, due to PvE neglect and abuse of exploits, OP builds, dupes and obviously the fact that people have been farming for 3 and a half years
hate to say it but it's on its last legs as far as advancement is concerned. i would comment on how pvp has degenerated.. but then again the pvp has always been about copy paste 8 skills meta teams
I can see HA becoming 6v6 pretty soon, henchmen being added to elite mission outposts, 8 heroes, more lame attempts to save the game (some useless e-peen item)
Despite all this.. guild wars is far from dead. I mean its still in the top 10 of xfires most played games, and we can never tell how many people play without xfire. All people are thinking about is GW2, i say forget it.. we don't even know when its going into beta, could be another 2 years before we see it.
just my $0.02

Really, I just wish there was more games that tried to break the mold.
I'm not going to buy WoW/LotR, etc because I already play a fantasy MMO, GW. I don't need to play 7 games with humans, dwarves, elves, etc.
Unfortunately, all the stuff that is outside the box genre wise has floped and been terrible (Auto Assault, Tabula Rasa, Hellgate London).
The only real non-fantasy MMO that is even moderately successful is EVE:Online, and that's just got way too steep of a learning curve for me to get into by now.

Only reason GW is in the "last stages of MMO death" is because...well, it's supposed to die in a year or so. There's no more content coming, so do what the game is designed to do: get put on the shelf until you feel like playing / something cool gets added. GW2 won't come any faster if you play every day. Hopefully this time they won't get surprised by their own success, and build the game so it can handle multiple large expansions in content without bloating so horribly.

No MMO has ever really grabbed me except GW, so yes I'm definitely looking forward to GW2. I tried HG:L but just couldn't get into it, briefly tried LOTR but frankly I hate games that aren't original; i.e. taking other peoples stories and pretending its something new and different.
The only other similar game I ever got really excited by was Diablo II. With Diablo III on the horizon I would say that GW2 has a lot of competition, but having not played it yet (obviously) I'm not totally in a position to say.

GW is dead, the devs have completely abandoned it.
GW2 will have to start from scratch so who knows what its future is, but to say its bright is somewhat premature.
ANet screwed up bigtime by not keeping its playerbase to go forward.

Im sure there will be some new skins, tonics, or minipet that will keep most people hooked for few more months.

Hey Folks
I think there are too many assumptions being made, although it maybe from your experience but this is what I have read in interviews, seen and experienced.
1. We have monthly updates, it tells us that it is being supported.
2. We do have new events (wintersday in July, Pirates - Grog).
3. In the last few weeks we have seen new members who have only been playing 3 months join our guild.
4. Read in interviews that new things maybe added to GW (I have yet to see anything confirmed but I hope they do, maybe MOX was it?).
5. People keep coming back to GW.
6. Other MMOs are losing players too.
There is much going on if people want to open their eyes and look around, but some folks just like to be the doom sayers.....it is the easy option.

If any of the "Superhero" MMO's due out soon deliver GW2 will become a very low priority.
Still playing CoH more than GW.
Better community, better game play, obviously subscription.

The sad thing is that even though the current GW is about 10% fun of what GW was 3 years ago, it is still by far the best mmo and the only one with a serious pvp system.

I think that all the gloom&doom is simply due to the traditional view on MMOs that "player numbers" (even if defining this is only possible by the game company itself, not players who only see their guild/alliance/friends) have to be kept constant so that the game company can sustain its running costs via monthly fee.
GW is not like that, we don't pay anything after we've purchased the games and its additions. We're not tied to it each and every month, we can play it as we have some time in a casual manner, or still play it hardcore (see The Return of EvIl for example). In such an environment, there's no reason why the game is "dead" because there aren't many people, or the "best" players left. Maybe they'lll be back, they can because it won't cost them anything.
And yet we have week-end events, monthly updates and festivals. And yet a few players are jumping onboard the GW experience. And yet there are alliances playing elite areas and many guilds playing PvP. It may be "less" than the GW experience years ago, but it is not in the sense thatone would expect "more" content to be added because other MMOs do so.
The future of GW indeed looks bright, ArenaNet succeeded where many couldn't, GW2 development is progressing, NC West is steadily growing. Players now need a lot of patience, a very nice quality to have nowadays.

I still play guilds wars, but I have tried out a few other games as well in the past few months. I am looking forward to guild wars 2. Alot of the members of the guild I am in rarely sign on much these days. Many are playing warhammer online. I ended up really liking Tabala Rasa alot and play it mostly these days. But still do some pvp and special event weekends in guild wars.

GW is getting old, that is a fact. It is still the best "MMO" on the market atm imho. I have tried AoC, WoW, and will soon probably try Warhammer due to peer pressure
. But there is something about GW that always keeps bringing me back.
I agree though, Anet did drop the ball by not adding any new content with GW2 still far, far away.

Guild Wars is a lot like America's economy (I'm american, so I allow myself to make fun of my country).
It goes down down down down down.... eventually almost horrible and everyone is freaking out. Then a few years down the road, it's amazing.
own time = right now.
amazing = release of GW2

There's always something left to do... Still items and armors left to collect... Development might be finished for this game overall, but there's plenty there to keep me busy even since day 1 over 3 years ago...
