About 2-3 months ago I stopped playing Guild Wars, And all was in perfect working order, Since I started playing recently I have been getting a hard lock up. Never at a fixed time, Its random.
By hard lock up I mean, PC is totally freezing. about half a second of sound spams over and over, My screen goes blank. I cant alt Tab or anything, Mouse is glued.
Only possible way to unfreeze it is to do a reset, by the button. or switch it off and on.
My computer is wired in HDMI Whether or not this can be a problem you might need this information.
I have an MSI k9A platinum mobo
An ATI Radeon x1950
And processor is an AMD athlon 64 x2 dual core 6400+ Black edition.
I'm running windows XP.
Some stuff I have already tried and had no change.
-noshaders
-dx8
-nosound
I have tried -image and -repair to see if its a broken file.
I have also tried doing a windows Check disk for bad hard drive sectors.
None of these work.
I've tried uninstalling the drivers and using a driver cleaner in safe mode "Driver Cleaner Pro"
then reinstalling the latest drivers.
I've also tried Omega Drivers to see if they work.
I've had absolutely no luck so far. If anyone of you can give me the light at the end of the tunnel i would be most grateful.
Ok I'm experiencing a hard Lock up

Could it be because guild wars doesn't support 1920 x 1200 screen resolution? Widescreen.
Snograt
Were you running at that resolution when you played GW before? It's quite a high resolution for an x1950 to throw around.
Does it only affect GW or do you get issues with any other graphically-intensive games?

I have played Oblivion and Call of duty 4 in 1920 x 1200
tested guild wars in a lower res and still had the same lock up

Try running it on a single core.
Quaker
Some of these problems can be eliminated by updating windows (Windows Update or Auto Update). If that`s not possible for you, try using an app such as ForceCore to force GW to run in only one core. Search on here or on the net for ForceCore for more info.
It could also be like Snograt says, the x1950 may be overheating or otherwise having problems. Update drivers, reduce graphic details, yada, yada.

Its impossible to be the fact that its dual core, since I ran it on this same rig 3 months ago.
