Installs but won't play on Vista?
AbinSur
I recently used my disks to install GW, it said it was done installing and then an icon was made on the dekstop. When I pressed the icon, nothing happened at all. So I got the client, same thing. Nothing happens when it's pressed. What's going on? I have Vista if that matters, though I've heard GW works on Vista....
Please help? Thanks.

That's a highly ambiguous message. You need to provide more information.
Have you made a fresh install of windows? Installed all the correct drivers/directx version etc
Is it a fresh install of the game or was the game already installed?
Are you getting any error messages?
When you installed the client did you remove the original install you made?
Have you problems running other programs?
Been to dodgy websites lately?
Installed any other software which looks fun and useful?
Updated your OS, antivirus, anti-spyware?
Have you got any other games installed which might include buggy DRM?
Has the game worked on Vista before?
Seriously I could go on asking questions all day with the lack of info you've given. Try contacting Anet tech support and providing them with more info...

I don't know, it's just a brand new computer, so I assume it's all fresh.
The game was already installed but didn't work. I think it did actually remove the original install.
I haven't bothered running many other programs, so I don't really know.
No, the game hasn't worked on Vista before, never tried.

I use a Vista, so that isn't the problem.
If it's a new computer, the only issue I see would be the "doh!" ones which I will give you enough credibility (even though I don't know you) and say you're smarter then to make those mistakes.
Perhaps the shortcut somehow got a wrong default option? Try right clicking then clicking Open (it should be in bold unless it is not the default option). Also, try opening programs to get to it manually, as the shortcut could be going to the wrong program/folder.
(Just for the sake of mentioning, I will say only things I can see wrong is that 1) your single clicking, not double, or 2) you're not connected to the internet when you try opening then game).
If neither of those work, I suggest contacting ANet support too.

One big important thing, are you having any issues at all accessing the internet with the computer concerned? I just don't want to take for granted that you are using that pc to submit to this forum.
Make sure GuildWars is on the exceptions list for your Windows Firewall or whatever firewall you're running. If you have more than one, then turn the others off. They'll cause problems. Any networked device can only function correctly when one firewall controls how data enters and leaves your machine to cross a network.
Also make sure your ISP doesn't block packets going to the guildwars server. But if you're not getting the download screen you won't be getting connected.
If absolutely nothing happens, go contact Anet support and they'll advise you the correct steps. Your computer and Windows Vista are complex things so you might also need to contact your ISP and PC manufacturer depedning on the issue. I'd fix it myself but I can't exactly go to where your machine is.

the "d'oh" problems was the double clicking and making sure your internet is connected.

Please check that GW is install using an user account with administrator access.

Where can I get the drivers?
And now it says it's unable to load the archive file..And it says to verify that the program is accesible and stuff...what does that mean?

Download http://www.revouninstaller.com/ and install it.
Download http://www.ccleaner.com/ and install it.
Update directX
Run Revo uninstaller on the guildwars install (hopefully it finds it)
Run ccleaner (uncheck boxes on things you dont want cleared, like recycle bin or cookies)
Update your video card driver.
Download the client from http://www.guildwars.com/support/downloadclient/ ("play game" button)

The problem is, someone can call up and say they are lost, but no one can help them if they dont provide further information.
Remember that none of us can see your computer and what it is, what its doing etc. so its a slow process to try and figure it out.
Have you tried to go through the menu, to computer, program files and guild wars and attempted to start it by dble clicking on the icon there?
I have a feeling its something to do with admin privileges too as I had a similar problem when using vista on a new comp for the first time - just cant remember what I did to correct it (think I may have downloaded the client from the GW site instead).

I don't think it is, because I've tried to run it from admin and nothing happens still. ANet hasn't helped really at all, either, nothing they have said works. I have no idea what is wrong.

Here's another d'oh question for you - Is Windows Firewall blocking gw.exe? Try turning the Windows Firewall off and see if it works then. If it does, and you want to use WF, turn it back on and make sure that GW is allowed through.
