Protesting Gate Monkeys

It was wrong when only a handful of near professional players controlled access to Fissure of Woe and the Underworld. Since then, that has been changed. We no longer depend on a small group of people winning Hall of Heroes to have access to game content and player goals.

It was wrong when Factions launched and one only had access to Urgoz Warren and The Deep through a handful of elite Faction Farming guilds. Since then, that has been changed. We no longer depend on the generosity of a few for access to game content and player goals.

Yet, this same situation continues on the Legendary Defenders of Ascalon title. It remains wrong for people to be forced to beg or pay others for access to game content and goals.

When a player buys a run, mod, mini-pet, weapon, or off-hand they do so for convenience. There is nothing to prevent them from waiting however many decades it takes for a minipet to appear in their iventory. I have 28 characters, I might not have to wait as long as some. If you want a particular green, you can repeatedly kill that boss for it - even spending days or weeks without getting it. But statistically it will eventually drop. I have been trying for a req 0-3, Earth Damage 7-10, inscribable Guardian Branch for months - but I don't have to pay for one and no one would be selling them anyway. I can keep pruning plants til it falls. But I cannot go into the Northlands of Pre-Searing Ascalon without someone else in party.

When I take someone else in party, I usually end up helping them get all their armor upgrades (which they didnt know about), locate the cities, get their 3-4 skills quest for their primary class, and then show them the Northland. Just about anyone willing to party to do the mission Across the Wall needs all of these things when I encounter them. Further, most of the time there isn't anyone doing Across the Wall. Those Charr Hunting with a partner for levels cannot help me as I am nearly 15th and 89% on level.

I will reiterate - I Will Not Pay a Gate Hooker for access to game content and goalsfor which I have spent nearly $500.00 to play. Anything they add to the game I have spent so much on to play is paid for at this point. At this point the only option left is to became a royal pain, which I have not done so far on this. I have tried to be nice. That point is past.

I am calling on ANet to add a dialog option to Gate Guard Torin which is triggered for those with:

Option A: The LDoA title track open.
Option B: The LDoA title track open and Across the Wall completed.
Option C: The LDoA title track open and having attained 16th level.

I will not hold anyone who opposes this change as a moral individual of anykind. I will oppose failure to make this change adamantly. I am going to campaign for it in every language I can in every server I can in every outpost and town I can, and in every district with a blue dot.

If you are a right minded person I call on you to message ANet daily until this change is made. I also call on you to join the protest in forum and in game.

We should never be denied open access to success in our game goals.
We should never be at the mercy of others to work on our game goals.

I am a right minded individual, but I won't be joining your silly protest - there are a lot more important things to protest in real life without wasting time on this.

P.s - You don't "have to" pay even 50 gold - there are lots of people who would do it for free - try a Guild-mate, for example.

Pay the miserable 50g or make friends in pre who will kindly help you out.

1. You don't HAVE to go for LDoA title.

2. You make a whole lot more than 50g when you clear the northlands.

3. You didn't have to spend over $500 to play the game. (28 characters? wow!)

Oh man, if you are getting frustrated over the 50g for a gate monkey, just wait until you actually try to get the title.

With your attitude, you're probably better off setting your goals to something that takes less time and effort and is ultimately more rewarding.

There is always option C... be frienedly with players, or play together with guildies.

Or option D... buy yet another copy of GW:Prophs and use GWX2 so you can run yourself through to the northlands if option C is really too difficult for you.

As Snow Bunny said.. its anywhere between 0 and 50g per run. So concidering the drops you get while behind the gate... you are still easily making a profit of ingame currency which you can not use in the real world to compensate for your over $500 you spent.

i assume you have 2 accounts? not sure where you spent 500$ otherwise... download that program to run 2 accounts at once and open the gate from one account for another, then leave and play with account you want - just repeat it then.

Not much but they actually do something for you.

You could just hit up a person wanting to get the rez sig then hit them with a will you open the gate for me. I have done this but I stilled pay them for it. Actually pay 100 for it or give a purple or something I do not need

Edit sure it would be nice just to talk to guard and get let in, but 50 gold is not too bad. Couple drops adn you get it back.

if you find the right partner you can do a bunch of runs in a row and nobody has to pay anybody.

my lvl 16 pre ranger never paid anyone to open a gate for him

it takes slightly longer because you get 1/2 experience, but runs are much faster, with no time waiting in between, no walk, and after 2 runs you have 10% morale boost each run. it evens out in the end
