not to mention, GW is strictly single threaded. you can have 209734017305928334872938402357 cores and it won't make a lick of difference.

I think it would certainly warm your house though!

Lag sucks, but if anet have checked their servers then they cant be blamed... Blame all the video on demand clogging up all the bandwidth .

This is a vidoegame. We, not beeing able to play the game, is NOT a serious problem. That's just annoying, nothing else. As Lyynyyrd said, we don't know what's causing it, stupid thread indeed.

Get outdoors and play some soccer with your friends, perhaps Anet have fixed the issue when you gt back in
Ok.. wow. Thank you for misinterpretating what I meant. I wanted to say there is a serious server/connection problem.. not that not being able to play GW is a serious problem. In case you were wondering, I simply closed GW and did some extra work.. I guess the way I said it would lead to misinterpretation

Do you seriously think a quad-core is necessary to run GW?

With the amount of people having troubles, I doubt it's only people's connections. True that may be part of the problem for some, but I doubt it is the entire thing.

And, my computer is good, so that isn't the problem here.

ANet says GG to my octocore.

@Red Sonya: Lol @ inexperienced people pretending to be tech experts.

When you look at the facts, this cannot just be a regional problem. More than 3/4 of the players in both the alliances (900-1000 members each) I've been in the last month have had massive lagspikes and 007s.

Said players are from all over the US, Europe, and from Australia and Asia.

If this wasn't a server problem it would be a regional or ISP based problem, which it is clearly not due to the extent of the problem.

I thought that it was only the crappy African internet connection that is causing my lag...

It comes and goes... sometimes I can play for 6-7 hours, 400 odd ping ave (which is pretty good for me) then other days I dc 3-4 times in an hour or have huge rubberbanding or general lag.
I also noticed that the problem gets worse in highly populated towns (servers).
Funny thing is that a guildie in the same town is perfectly fine while I'm struggling to even chat.

Yes, actually it can very well be ISP related, or backbone. It all depends on how your connection is being routed at that moment, which can vary from minute to minute. Add in the fact some ISP (ISPs?) delay low volume traffic (like games, which aren't transferring large amounts of data) in favor of streaming data when they get busy (or just delay everything) and it is pretty hard to know where the problem is. Or they delay due to heavier than normal volume in a given area or region the company serves. I know of multiple instances where a certain cable company slowed down a good portion of their entire eastern USA network to save money during some work on the system. Then there can be all kinds of delay between companies.

Just because a bunch of people (even entire guilds) all seem to be having problems at once doesn't mean anything because most/all of them could be routed through the same path before reaching the actual servers. Even the glitch yesterday in Pre where just about everyone had problems (but not EVERYONE) could have been caused by someone along the chain. I don't know how the servers are configured, but assuming (always bad, I know) an explorable area or district are all on the same server, then EVERY single person in that area should have the same problem at the same time, not to mention the server monitor software should be logging such problems and popping up an alert.

ArenaNet is at the mercy of the rest of the chain and the chain is only as strong as the weakest link. Throw into that the links change from moment to moment. So I take them at their word, if they've checked for problems (and I'm sure they monitor their servers constantly, computers can do that quite easily) then the problem is not on their end. Anyone that has worked in networking, or even knows someone that does, should understand this. It isn't rocket science, pretty simple stuff to find out about and understand.

It sucks when it happens to you (or, especially, me) but that is the nature of the beast. Now, if ArenNet isn't providing enough bandwidth to handle everyone, then that is a different matter, but something I think we'd see in times of really heavy usage like on holidays. Yet during the recent Dragon Festival the place was packed (what, 125+ districts at the monastery, while most of the other areas seemed at normal traffic?) and I noticed little to no problem with my connection and didn't see anyone online complaining much. Granted, probably half of the people where just standing around on the rings, but still.

I don't PvP, so a few weekends ago when there did seem to be problems in those areas could very well have been server related as it did seem to be pretty universal, although I wasn't really paying attention because it didn't affect me.

I confirm that I encounter big lag spikes when abing. It appeared one week ago. Almost every day I have to face an entire freeze during Alliance Battles, and I am not the only one. The waiting time before starting a battle has increased as well.

I play since may 2005 and those problems are new. I have a good modem and a DSL connection.

So Regina should intervene, ask the technical board if everything is ok and revert to US asap.....

Thank you ANET for your cooperation.

If there are a number posts saying that entire groups are feeling lag spikes at the same time, I doubt that it is client side, because it would be some amazing coincidence that the client side ISP has a problem at the exact same time has seven other different client ISP's around the world.

When I get a lag spike and my Euro alliance mates also complain of lag spikes at the same time I really doubt it's client side problems.

If it is some strange coincidence that it is the client side ISP causing problems at the same time, then I will start trying to run through a wall, because, hey, it's possible too that all the atoms in my body will miss all the atoms in the wall and I can walk right through.

I have been getting those big long lag spikes; I was on this morning with H&H team and some lasted so long that I would be in mid battle with a mob, freeze up then come back and the fight was over.

So I don't think it is Anets servers themselves as the H&H team seemed to continue to fight while I was lagged. However I do think it is either their ISP's routers or infrastructure or they throttled down bandwidth to cut cost with our with out Anets knowledge.

their servers reject high ping and knowing them test servers for gw1 and 2 are sharing bw/resources with the live servers.

Would this keep you from installing the client? I am re-installing GW and once I get to the windowed installation screen, nothing happens.

Same story really. I was lagging badly yesterday evening - UK based but playing on US servers. At the same time 3 guildies from various parts of the world (1 in the US, 1 in Denmark and 1 in South Africa) and in different places in the game all reported the same lag spike at the same time.

Can't see how it can be ISP related to be honest. Simply just to much of a coincidence!

Yes, it's been a while for me, but I'm fairly certain that the installer needs to connect to the GW servers early in the process. If it wasn't able to connect, then no install for you.

Why are people making such a big deal from this? The lag is approx. 2 hours(for me, dunno about the hardcores). So it is really no big deal, 2 hours w/o guild wars, it's not like anyone is gonna die from that.

Agreed, however just to provide some solid info, I'm going to try and get alliance members to do route traces and pathpings with me during lag spikes.

I suggest other people experiencing the problem do the same so we can clear up whether or not this is server side.

Regina has asked people with problems to please send the info to them, so I hope everyone will do just that. It might help them track down something they can fix on their end of things, a win-win for everyone. Log your info people and send diags to their support people when you have problems.

Also, those of you having problems fairly often, don't forget you might be able to adjust your router settings to give your computer priority (if you share a connection like I do) and/or enhance the connection for GW. Some newer routers have program specific settings (you might have to dedicate a port) so that the program gets the lion's share of the bandwidth.

Oh, and stop those P2P programs running in the background.

The lag spikes have ceased for me, even with 5mb/sec of downloading as I play so I am happy!

And I know for a fact it wasn't just me because my friends and teammates would freeze over and over at the exact same time as me. Not implying its anet btw, just saying its not my ISP or my computer! lol
