RAM or processor?

I know they are both quite important, but if I had to choose between 4 gigs of RAM and a 1.8 gig processor, and a 2 gig processor and 2 gigs of RAM... what isthe choice? At what point does the processor outweigh the RAM?

just a bit confused.... been out of the computer game for too long, feel lost lol

computer parts are cheap enough these days that i'll pick a 2.66ghz processor and 4gb of ram.

You shouldn't need more than 2 GB of RAM.

And also depends on the processor model.

In my experience 1.8 versus 2.0 processors doesn't make any incredible difference, but it do. And 2GB of RAM is normally enough.

The most important is the graphics card, if you play games, I imagine you do, because if you don't, you don't even need 1GB of RAM, with 512MB and XP you will be all right.

This depends a lot upon what sort of apps you're running and how many at the same time. Since you are posting on here, I'll assume you are mostly interested in gaming.
With 2 gigs of RAM and WinXP I was able to run GW plus Ventrilo plus Firefox (plus WinXP) with no difficulty. So, I would go with the 2 gigs/2 gigs, although as was said, the difference between a 1.8Gig and a 2gig cpu is not that great.

That and you can overclock the 1.8 to 2.0 without issue.

go with the higher cpu, its rediculously cheap to upgrade your RAM anymore, and you shouldnt have to use more than 2gb for most games and apps out right now (more than youll ever need for guildwars at least)

The problem with my old computer (or parts of it i should say) is that I started upgrading all the fun stuff (ram, video, sound) but I kept the same old motherboard. Didnt matter what I did, the processor couldnt keep up with the hardware.
