Ceremonial Family Sword
MagmaRed
So, I completed the quest that uses this item a long time ago. However, I recently saw a stack of them (250) being sold on the Auction site here on Guru. In fact, there were/are several stacks being sold, all by the same person. Even more strange, is this is a well known Guru Auction user, one most people have either bought/sold with, or at least seen his auctions.
The auction listed details about the item, with links to wiki. It states that you cannot sell them to a merchant and cannot be salvaged. Since you can only complete the quest with a character once, which only gives skills for a reward (no money or items), what would be the point in byuing these? I asked in the auction page, and got a VERY vague answer that seemed to be hiding from a real answer. Is there a point to buying/having these? What would someone do with 250 to make them worth 200g each? Since 50k is only the starting bid, what would make them worth even more?
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/auction...ion_id=1236151
Not sure I want to buy them, or ever wanted to. I am sure, however, I want to know why ANYONE would want to. Any ideas?
Question and answer I posted/received:
Q: As posted in your own item description, this has no use outside of one quest. Why would someone want to purchase 250 of an item they can only use once? Why would they pay more than 100g for each in the first place?
A: I keep trying to explain the unlimited uses and possibilities of this item and players keep ignoring the hints and explinations i have already made over 100k on these items and have no further use for them Please attempt to use your imigination on the several DOZEN uses these items can be put to other than the Obvious Rudhraighe

in the link you gave, magma, he basically answers you question with his first answer.
Question
Sorry, but all I seee is you saying "I can't tell you how I scam". If it is so obvious, why not share? Looks like an FDS, so sell it to a noob?
Answer
that would be innappropriate and a very bad thing to do almost as bad as betting players that you have a stack of 250 dragon swords...
he probably bets people that he has a stack of dragon swords and then actually gets people to pay him when he puts that stack in the trade window

I'd be more willing to bet that he was scamming with them. No one's going to cough up money in a bet like that, especially since dragon swords don't stack.
Konig Des Todes
I'd say he's just a scammer. And the people who buy them are either collectors of junk or idiots.
I say this because:
250 Ceremonial Family Sword (Quest Item) Stack of Dragon Swords (at least 2 stacks for sale)
and another thing he sells:
250 Jade Wind Orbs OOG Out of Game Item No Longer Available Collectable Item (at least 3 stacks for sale)

I was afraid of that. Just never expected Rudhraighe to be a scammer. Doubt I'll be buying anything from him in the future unless some clarification can be found for the use of this.
Owik Gall
I doubt you'll find any clarification to that matter at all. Game mechanics proves without a doubt that those things has no use other than the quest. You'll be spending more than what the quest can offer you, plus it's not repeatable. I also doubt that it ever will be repeatable, so in that sense, so much for hopeful feelings that it will. I'd consider his efforts to sell those things a FAIL because there is no feasible reason that someone should try this stunt. If anyone does buy them, then that buyer is an EPIC FAIL. Unless it's a noob. If that's a case then the more we should shun at this guy for taking advantage of them.

I am not Sure If, or how i Should respond to this thread, or if i should just let a Lawyer handle it...
The Stacks of Fiery Dragon Swords i have for Sale were obtained over Three years ago (Before the pickup and drop bug was fixed as part of a /bug report) and have been widely used by myself and other players over the years for numerous uses.
Any Suggestion that i have ever scammed supported scamming or encouraged the idea of scamming is irresponsible and malicious and the Forum moderators should take appropriate actions against any who made such statements.
And Holding my auction store or items hostage just to satisfy any player or group of players lack of intelligence, ingenuity and imagination is threatening my well being and again should be dealt with by those same moderators (I want Protection from the less intelligent)
I have been playing Guild Wars For over 4 Years and during that time i have never been called into question for my Honor and Integrity an to have it done now is Ludricrous and irresponsible
As Far as Legitimate uses for Ceremonial Family Swords Again i say there are/were Several Dozen uses for them in Game and the limit of and for those uses are only limited to a players imagination and ingenuity and i should be able to live free from those players unable or incapable of discovering those uses and instead insist on covering their ignorance by casting dispersions upon my integrity and character.
But to satisfy the Morbid Curiosity of those lacking in mental capacity and the ability to transcend the linear single mindedness of the mundane I shall begin a list of uses and allow the More intelligent of you to extend the list to the despair of the small in ability.
1) An item needed for the quest, The Misplaced Sword
2) to sell to someone for the quest, The Misplaced Sword
3) To use on another character for the quest, The Misplaced Sword
4) it looks cool in inventory
5) It Looks cool on the ground
6) it looked cool when you could drop items in pvp and distract opponents
7) other players think it looks cool on the ground and want to pick it up
8) other players think it looks cool in their inventory and forget to drop it
9) it takes up inventory space
10) it takes up space in other players inventory
11) you can target it with "Targeting: Item - Nearest"
12) you can target it with "Targeting: Item - Next"
13) you can target it with "Targeting: Item - Previous"
14) It can be seen on the ground from Far Away
15) Prior to the game update adding the pop up map it was used to mark locations in an instance.
16) Used as "Bread crumbs" while exploring "Blacked out" Maps
17) used in Underworld to mark completed areas or to mark pop-ups
18) used in Fissure of Woe to mark completed areas or to mark pop-ups

29) drop to lure another annoying player into a trap
30) use as markers to teach another player how to run an area (Drok run)
31) use during Guild scavenger hunts
32) use during guild obstacle course runs as flags
33) Use for RPG (That's Role Playing in a mmorpg)

35) Use as inventory Fill on storage characters or to mark locations in inventory for moved or lent items.
36) To Sell on auction sites
37) Drop to mark the path from the rez shrine to where you died again for the 60th time because nobody in the party brought a rez and nobody wants to quit trying to kill a boss nobody in the party was prepared for.
38) Photo and Movie Opportunities Which include but are not limited to...
39) "The Dragon Sword Farmer" Image of (your Favorite Character) Standing in a Field of 500 Fiery Dragon Swords laid out in neat rows Wielding a Scythe With a Photo shop caption of your Choice..."Is dem ripe yet Clyde ?"
40) The U-Tube Video of "The misadventures of a Dragon Sword Farmer" the next generation of Viral Videos using/abusing the computer game of your choice for movies that were never intended by the game designers.
41) To prove your intellectual superiority over the less fortunate by imagining, and creating multiple uses for a seemingly useless and trivial item.
42) to provide evidence of your superior salesmanship ability to be able to sell 250 of any item. and to use it on a resume to become a pharmaceutical sales representative.
43) used to play the Game "Even or Odd" where each player places items into the "Trade" window (after after agreeing to the rules) and simultaneously enters the "Submit" button the player guessing the proper result even or odd is the winner while this game seems simple there is a lot of ways to strategize the win by either placing 1 or 2 items on your side.

So which part of this is worth my 50k? A great deal of those "uses" you put up there, I can do with bones or glittering dust. Well, that may be jumping the gun, considering those genuinely DO have uses in stacks.

Substitute Ceremonial Family Sword with Red Iris Flower.
There is one need that the particular item satisfies, and that gives it a certain value. The rest of your list is not specific to the item and thus doesn't provide any additional value. Most of the functions are more easily implemented with one gold piece and thus this places the additional value of CFS somewhere below 1 gp.

44) Keep handy for the next time a potential "customer" wants to see what you're selling outside. If asked, drop one on the ground for them.
45) Return to trade district with popcorn and wait for the "WTS SUPER RARE CEREMONIAL DRAGON SWORD!" so you can reply with "WTS stack of 249 SUPER RARE CEREMONIAL DRAGON SWORDS!"

This thread is both fun and sad. While I don't know either Magma or Rud personally, both names are *incredibly* familiar. When first reading Magma's OP, I, too, thought, "gotta be scam!!!" until I saw Rud was the seller in question. I can understand Magma's question, but at the same time, I just can't imagine Rud scamming or promoting scamming. Rud must be involved in at least a third of all the auction trades here.
Anyway, the various proposed uses for these are very entertaining! Sounds like good fun. I don't think I'd be willing to pay 50k for that fun, but I am oddly tempted to take a non-Tyria character to the desert and farm myself a stack-o-swords now. (Alas, that's a skill quest - all my Tyrian characters already did it ages ago.)
But seriously people, charging 50k for this stack of swords isn't scamming. The auction explained what they are, and no one is going is going to be tricked or scammed into buying them from this auction. If someone thinks they're cool and has 50k to spend on them, more power to them!
And yes, you can still gather quest items for non-repeatable quests. Get quest item, abandon quest, re-take quest, repeat.
Cheers folks,
Luny

When I first saw the auction, I thought "this is a stupid thing to sell, seller must be an idiot". But my curiousity got the best of me, so I opened the auction to see what the seller had listed for it. Then, to my surprise, I saw it was Rud posting the auction. As I stated, I know he is a very well known buyer/seller on the Guru auctions. This made me think there was something worthwhile with the item, and I just didn't know about it. SO.... I asked, in the auction, what you would be using the item for, as I could only imagine scamming. The response I got from Rud was not a link to uses, a list of uses, or even a simple explanation of uses, but a dodge.
Sorry Rud, I was not intending to 'attack' you. I asked YOU what would make me want to buy them. You failed to answer. Since you didn't give me a reason to buy them, my curiousity made me seek other sources for info. The list of 'uses' you gave in that long response is very sad. If you actually took the time to acquire 500 (or more) Ceremonial Swords to use in the ways you posted (many of those ways were not available when you say you acquired them), you must play a very boring game.
Oddly enough, the auction I posted the questions in has been closed without a sale. The other auction for the exact same thing is/was still open though. Makes you wonder what his lawyer told him to do.
Mods, please close, as I got the answer I was after, and further use of this topic will simply be to make Rud look like a scammer, or at least an idiot. I know I see him that way now, and didn't before.

btw, after your first 3 answers, the rest of your "dozens of uses" were pretty flimsy.
