I know something similar from a german forum. If you have 9points, you get banned for some weeks/months there. 10points -> perma bann. Didn't know guru introduced a system like this, too. Probably you should ask a Mod

Oh... and obviously you got that for posting off topic *cough*

Does it say how many points you need before you get a prize?

Considering all the junk that is in that original thread (such as the picture of Jolie), I can't see why anyone in particular would get a "demerit" - but then again maybe they all did.

And then again, some of the mods do seem a bit flaky at times (which will probably get me deleted or a point. )

Seems like you've recieved an infraction. Pm Inde about it if you want to know. Don't post on here about it.

The infraction system is a newly implemented user warning system which functions to tally transgressions

You will receive those messages, with the number/seriousness of your offense (breaking the rules of the forum).

Once you have accumulated a specific number of infractions, you will be automatically banned.

More specific details will be forthcoming.

Please refrain from posting any further copies of the messages, as that is technically a violation of the rules. (Posting PM's from moderators)

The rule about not posting PMs from Moderators has always been there as long as I can remember.

All the Infraction system is not adding new rules, it is simply a new tool for Moderators.

Since May 2008, I highly doubt they've changed.

General Forum Rules, check the last line of Rule #3.

And if you don't like them, you may feel free to take it up with Inde, as was mentioned earlier.

Ok I admit the not posting PM's is there, accepting 'new tools' is not.'Hai guys,we has new tool that can ban, kthnxbai.', when was this thing even added,it seems kind of big enough to stick on the home page.

Please be patient, we're still getting used to the new system as well.

And it doesn't autoban, so don't worry about that.

In my defence, 1 The user sending me the message doesn't have a leeet black / green / rainbowcoloured name so how am i supposed to know it's a mod ?
and lmoa at the mod giving me that "infraction point" for that thread .. Did divine get one for that hiliarious thread ? don't think so ..

Is that pm actually from a moderator or an automated system? It looks code generated but could easily be a copy-paste template yes? no?

The message came from the user " infraction warning" so i don't know ; might be a bot that a mod activates on that user but is probably hand-operated .

Infractions are part of a new system in place for handling user records, which previously were done manually, causing a lot more work and bureaucracy for the moderation team.

Any moderator can give a user an infraction for a post, which each are allotted a number of points - when a certain number of points are accumulated (5 for a 1 day ban, for example), a ban is administered. The user is also sent an automatically generated warning message, which streamlines the previous process of having to record the transgression and then message the user. The reasons for infraction can be custom-set or selected from standard options by the moderator.

Obviously this is still in an experimental phase, and ideally should not change the manner in which the rules are applied. One thing to note is that as the warnings are anonymous, you will not be able to PM the moderator who gave you the infraction. Should you have any questions about the warning, or feel it is unwarranted, PM either Inde or one of the Supermods regarding the situation (ideally, forwarding the warning pm for information).

If you have further questions, you may ask them here, as that is more appropriate for a discussion of this nature. Inde should be posting a more proper summary for you all shortly.
