Master Artificer's Magnifier.
-Double click to identify another item in your inventory. Consumes 4 gold per use. Unlimited uses.

Master Artificer's Salvage Mechanism
-Double click to salvage common crafting materials from an item. Consumes 4 gold per use. Unlimited uses.

Master Artificer's Reclaimer Device
-Double click to salvage upgrade components and crafting materials (rare or common) from an item. Consumes 16 gold per use. Unlimited uses.

Why?

Because I am so very sick of having to return to the merchant to buy identification kits. And salvage kits. And expert kits. Again. And again. And again.

I don't care how they are placed in the game. I don't care how they are named. I just want items that allow me to skip the thrice-damned inconvenience.

Thus, these three items, with a built in balance mechanism, deducting the exact amount of gold each use of each kit costs.

Thoughts?

/signed. Absolutely. I always have them taking up my inventory anyway, so if I could have something in my inventory that I don't have to keep BUYING I say HELL YES.

It would be even better if it didn't take up any items slots too. Kinda like bags and pouches. I mean it was kind of cute to pretend that you were actually using an item to salvage/identify another item, but after 3+ year of it, it gets old. Ok, maybe it got old after about a week of it.

/Signed, I like this idea very much. I hate getting new ones, so I hope they put it in game.

These would be neat. Superior and possibly regular kits would be obsolete depending on how difficult these were to acquire. Can't say I would miss them though.

When I saw the thread title on the home page I thought "oh boy, someone asking about the Charr Bag and other Green Named crap..."

But when I read....

/SIGNED! I hate this too! Although, the last one (the one that salvages everything from an item with one use) should have a bigger drawback, because it's basically 1-3 uses of a Perfect Salvage Kit and a use of a Superior Salvage Kit. I say change it from 16g per use, to 5g per item (i.e. a weapon with three mods? 20g, a armor with 2 mods? 15g, a white? 5g).

Edit:

@ below:

Heh, the "upgrade components and crafting materials" threw me off. I took it as salvaging everything at once. Which, imo, would be cool but would need a much higher pricing.

I believe the last one is meant to mimic the function and cost of an expert kit. At least that was my interpretation reading it.

Although I normally exchange the monastery thingies for all my Kit needs - this does sound fun.
Give them a merch price of 0 and we have a complete winner.

^They are listed as greens. From my understanding we'd have to farm for them. They'd be worth a heck of a lot once someone sells one.

I'd say make a quest, but knowig there are like 5 people working on GW1, that won't be happening any time soon. Though i love the idea - totally /signed.

Hey, that makes perfect sense!

(however i like fact that when id/salvage kit runs out of charges it makes free inventory spot which i can use to pick up some more loot)

I say go for it. There's no reason why something like this can't be implemented.

Another Asuran style quest like MOX would suit this idea really well I think ~ if they could be bothered to set it up. I really like this idea a lot and what you are suggesting also means that identification and salvage would remain effective gold sinks.

Your idea is more fun than mine, I was thinking there should be a way to stop having to identify everything even though you are familiar with the specific effect.
i.e.
I know what an icy bowstring looks like I can tell it from a fiery one having seen hundreds, but apparently I still need a kit to tell me.
So I considered something linked to the wisdom title track where some items where automatically identified when examined.

Back to your idea how far into the game would you think its best to have the greens located. ?

Unbelievable. How can you be soooo damn lazy?!?

Everlasting Salvage Kit? Geeez. And disappearing gold with every use? How would you explain that from logical point of view so it made at least a little sense? Buying tools that break after using them several times at least makes a little sense. And that mysterious gold eating device?

Ok enough with criticism. Instead I will follow with more similar ideas for lazy people:

A logical Next Step:
Everlasting Perfect Salvage Kit - consume 50g, 5 Wood Planks, 5 Iron Ingots, 1/5 of a Skill Point per use

Or for something different:
New consumable item:
A Conset Pie!
-The effect of Grail of Might + Essence of Celerity + Armor of Salvation
-Save 2 inventory slots and activate with 2 clicks instead of 6!
-Craftable at any [Consumables] crafter for the combined cost of 3 regular cons, requires 3 rep titles rank3 but you don't even need to zone to 3 different towns!

Just don't make a green everlasting version of this. xD

More more ideas:

How about a new item to make Drunkard title easier + more more with just 1 new item - an Intelligent Autoconsumer!
-Use it on a stack of consumable items, for example Grogs, and it will automatically consume one for every X minutes (X=1 for weak alcohol, 3 for strong alcohol, or = effect duration for other consumables, like 5 minutes for Candy Corn)
-Better than lame scripts, with this you can play and drink and not think about it!
-Save your mouse up to almost 20,000 clicks for max drunakrd title!

Or how about this:

If you don't like going to merchant to buy some kits, why go there at all? Try a Everlasting Automerching Kit - Use to turn any item into cash just as if you sold it to a merchant npc! Unlimited uses, no extra cost per use, ofcourse!

Isn't it just FAAANTASTIC?

============
okay now something more serious

A further improvement on identifying and salvaging.

Prepare...

...this is going to be a smashing hit...

...

...don't you feel there are already too many different items cluttering your inventory?

The idea is...

Make Identifying, Basic and Expert Salvaging into character's SKILLS!

Ofcourse you don't need to put them on your bar to use them, let them have their own separate bar! Bind a key to show/hide the bar at the position of your cursor or bind keys for those skills separately, your choice.
Just think about how fast and easy it would be, for example bind 9 to Identify Skill, and just press 9 and LeftMouseClick every white crap before merching.
Same for salvaging.
Have you ever salvaged a big stack of Shadowy Remnants after some UW farming? This improvement idea makes you save 1 click per use and if you bind a key to Basic Salvage Skill you can salvage a whole stack without moving the mouse at all!
FAANTASTIC!

Serious thread needs more serious ideas to make the game seriously better! Add more! Only highly important ones that would certainly make top of Anets ToDo list for GW1.

</sarcasm off>

Not that I oppose the original idea, just having fun inventing stupid things.

/signed, but the prices should be higher. 10g/10g/30g or something like that. There needs to be a offset to unlimited use and the simplest ways to implement is to make it cost more.

Ick, I worded it strangely.
The "merch price" didn't refer to a way of obtaining them - but rather when you talk to the merch they have a price of 0. That way you can't sell them and they would be the PERFECT "border" object in your inventory that is preventing you from unintentionally selling the stuff you don't want.

The last one alrdy costs more then using a sup salvage kit...

Sup salvs cost 1k if you get them through commendations etc, so thats enough of an offset imo.
