I've decided to come back to GW

I've been out of the loop for about two years or so. What have I missed?
Also, what class would you recommend for pvp? I like caster dps classes.

Jiro Teq - ex TONG.....welcome back.

Yeah PVP is the only thing holding GW up anymore the PVE game is just old and boring and if they don't get some fresh arenas PVP is going that route as well.
fenix
Game sucks now, it's really not worth coming back for.
Also, lol Red Sonya, you think PvP holds GW up? Hahahahaha nice joke.

PvE is amazingly boring with no new content in over a year, PvP is unbalanced and quite shitty at the moment.
Really, it's not worth coming back to.

Is it just me or is a "just came back to gw" thread created everyday? And people always say it sucks now despite them taking the time to come to this site DEDICATED to gw. Just saying...
To answer this question, I refer you to the search function and the wiki.

We come here for the discussions and such. In fact, most of the friends I've made on guru don't even PLAY the game any more, but just come here because it's a nice forum.

Welcome back, try Ele, or Necro combo - for fun....
I always find it bizarre on this forum the amount of people who seem to troll around like doombringers telling people how Guild Wars is over and to play GW2?
I don't get it, if you don't like GW anymore why are you still lurking around this website? Why do you still play a game you claim to dislike so much? Are you unable to find a new hobby?
The GW2 trolls are way too ahead of the game, its not going to be released for at least another year, maybe even longer (the way most games go I'd say 2 years) and yet they seem to spend all their time talking about playing that, that's a long wait kids.
As for no content, well I'm still joyfully working my way through quests and missions, playing either solo or with real-life friends, happily ignoring PUG's and I'm really enjoying myself. I've hardly even touched GWEN missions and quests and I've never been to a dungeon, so loads still to do. It may be hard to understand for some, but for many of us there is still life in the old GW dog yet.

Read my post ruffenredie. As for GW2, when they first announced GW2, they said beta in August 08, release early 09. Now they're not even saying anything other than the release being delayed a year. People aren't so keen waiting around for 2-3 years for the new game, considering the competition it will be against (Starcraft 2, Diablo III).

Eh, you must be bored as hell to come back to GW.
I login sometime to mess around in presear but thats about it and usually only a few minutes at that, and usually only once a every month or two.
GW2 should be interesting... I know I'm done with paying mmo's right now,
over 3yrs in wow w/ 5 lvl70 toons, over a year in EQ2 with 2 lvl80 toons, and a lvl20 mage in ddo, lvl70 hunter in lotro and a lvl 40 ranger in AoC.
God help me I think I'm just pay the $199 life time membership for lotro and just play it since it will work out to being free eventually.

Some of you say that the pve is boring, but keep in mind that everything after Factions is pretty new to me.
As I was leaving, I remember being overwhelmed by the micro managing of heroes. After doing a little bit of reading, i see that heroes are pretty much a necessity. Are heroes actually hard to manage, or did i just not bother to get past the learning curve?
I also remember when I was playing factions, for some missions it was impossible to get a group together. I can only imagine this getting worse over time. Is it better, or do i have to rely on my heroes?
And as for pvp, I was hoping for to try out some guild battles. If that's not possible, i remember enjoying random battles a lot. Is any organized pvp going to be an impossibility because I'm not experienced?

Heroes don't take much at all to play, you can do it either way. Give them a hard build that you'll have to micro manage, or just give them a simple yet effective build and leave them to it.
Grouping on missions varies a lot on your playtimes etc, it's usually possible to get them in NF if i remember and the first and last bit of factions however the individual luxon/kurzick missions are usually empty.
PvP is dead compared to it's past self, however there are still plenty of people playing it outside the top 200 or so, so it'll still be pretty active for you and worth trying out. There are quite a lot of players trying out pvp that haven't before, so you should be able to find a guild that will take you in to try it out.
At the end of the day coming back is going to cost you nothing so just go ahead and find out.

The biggest problem is we got practically no new content for over a year. As you come back from 2 years ago you shouldn't suffer from that for quite some time.
And despite what most failing QQ'ers say, PvP is now more balanced than EVER. Just not as alive as when it was full of dumb degenerate imba gimmicks that made easy wins with little skill required - lamers who couldn't win anymore in a balanced enviroment simply quit and now only complain on forums.

The game is practically dead, yes. However some people still wish to experience unfounded content. I wouldn't recommend this game to you - there are other games that can better fulfil its purpose, but if you really like it yourself nobody's stopping you coming back.
Clarissa F
Since Cantha and Kamadan are new to you, go for it. Why not? You already paid for it, lol.
PvP...if you are used to an ele, stick with it. Just be sure to check on your skills in PvP, as some are different than in PvE.
Opinions are like a$$holes. Everyone has one, and they usually stink.

The only reason people say pve sucks is because they're the idiots who decided to rush to get all of the titles and dungeons and EVERYTHING completed for GW2 instead of spreading it out like they should have.
Most people of which did everything in a month when gw2 was practically announced, and all they do now is whine about everything.
I'd say if everything is new to you beyond factions, then come on back.
Dungeons are always fun, especially frostmaw's, in my opinion, and the stuff you can get in eotn is really nice.
For pvp, there is the caster elementalist for heavy dps/degen, although a mesmer/necro does the degen part and shutdown better, and with lyssa's aura an assassin/mesmer can just dancing daggers his way to a kill.
Mix it up a little.
Just don't try to heal people as a warrior/ monk with glimmer of light, for the love of god

i think the dungeons are tooooo long, it gets tiring after that "60th mob" you have to kill.(instead of run) And relating to the above, even if you DON'T get everything fast, now money making so practically a snap......and it is Hard to resist the "temptations" of these overpriced items.(also, imo titles are just proof of how little a life you have.....doesn't bring anything of value to you, or you chara)
But sure, a new Cathan maybe worth awhile......IF you can pug it through the boring stuff first.

Knowing there is nothing new to expect but the odd skill balance and new tonic there really isn't much to look forward to anymore. We knew Eye of the North would basically be the end of new content. At this point we had been introduced with overpowered PvE skills, and then eventually consumables. Now instead of forcing players to become better to achieve their goals it's just a matter of abusing those skills and items. You can do everything faster, more easily. People have done everything and either move on, grind the dull titles, or farm gold to buy everything for their Hall of Monuments.
I stopped playing for four months, came back to do the M.O.X. quests hoping it would spark interest again. Feel completed deflated knowing the only thing I can do is grind millions of gold.

I would still gladly return to and enjoy PVE again with 7 hereos. PVE wont suck anymore then.
Untill then, the game is dead and it sets a very negative example for how GW2 will turn out.

They're somewhat obsolete, to be frank. If you want a ranged dps class, I recommend Expert's Dexterity ranger, or Mindblast/Shatterstone Elementalist. That's assuming you're planning on playing guild vs guild. For RA or AB, just about whatever your imagination can come up with can churn out the big numbers.

Welcome back to GW. In my opinion, though GW is going down, you might experience lack of players to group for missions or/and pvp depending on time. Other than that, since you just returned to play the game, you are unlikely to get bored as fast.
Even if that happens, there are still many challenges you can try.
Doing mission in different ways you did in the past, playing game in Hard Mode, unlocking pvp items/skills/heroes with balthazar faction you earn...etc. And switching between PVE and PVP should keep the interest of playing GW longer.

heroes, pve skills, unlimited server switches, hard mode, zaishen chest, dungeons and more titles.
thats about it.
thats about it.

Just remember, there are those who spend their time posting (usually bashing the game) and those who are still playing and have never heard of Guru or any other forum. If you are all about instant gratification and do it all as fast as possible, you to will soon become as jaded as many people here. On the other hand if you like variety(try many different professions, both PvE & PvP) and don't feel you have to complete the game as fast as humanly possible, do come back.

Then I logged in - looked at the game and though that the things I could do wouldn't even be fun with a full hero party.
The game has much bigger issues then the need for heroes.
The only thing that is saving it is the fact that other games are even worse.
But then again - do you really want to play a shitty game because other games are shittier or would you rather waste your time by doing something that actually isn't shitty?

Windf0rce
Welcome back and ignore the "GW is dead" comments, please - it's only dead for some Guru people but if you login and play you won't feel this negativity. I don't see where people get this shit from, the game is very active, pretty fun and worth playing. If possible return to GW, and quit GURU, lol.
PvE got a little old to me for sure, now that my main reached most titles I wanted. But I still play with friends to help in a mission or vanquish and it's nice.
PvP is a blast. I RA whenever I am short on time, and drop by Heroes' Ascent for some organized matches when I have more time, and it is a lot of fun.
Haven't done GvG because I have more fun at HA, but you should have no problem finding a Guild that does it daily.

Actually no, if you log into GW you'll find that it IS actually pretty dead. Almost no GvGs, almost no HA matches, almost all the towns in the game are empty. Unless I live on another planet where everything is backwards, no one playing the game means that it's dead. Ignore Windf0rce, apparently he got it a little mixed up.

PvE has had no new content in over a year (MOX quest really doesn't count). It's the same old stale shit it's been for awhile. Pugs are still bad, and now they're using extremely boring cookie cutter builds to do elite missions (terra tanks, cry mesmers, etc).
PvP is horrible. Getting into serious PvP is a bitch, it's quite unbalanced, and you'll get bored really fast of the super lame builds people are running.
On top of all that, good luck finding a good, active guild.

The game isn't dead just most have moved on and a lot of the good players gave up on it when Factions came out. These were the good GW players after that more gave up on it after nerfs and what not.Yeap they QQed.

I just pray that Fable II can distract me long enough from GW so i may get some of my life back.

Who cares if the so called "good players" don't play anymore? (Unless you are referring to PvP.) As far as PvE where is it said you have to be good to have fun playing the game? I consider myself an average player who has been playing for over 3 years. I don't rush anything and still have much to do in game. The game is not dead, it may not have the same base of long time players, but you can still find many districts open in the major cities. ANET can buff and nerf all they want, I still play because I can adapt to what they give me to use. The day I don't have fun playing is the day I will quit, it hasn't come yet.

Frankly the only thing I could see myself coming back and "playing" through the game again would be to make a 55er or a farm sin and I don't know about other people but that same old repetitive rinse repeat farming BS was the reason I left D2 (oddly enough competitive imbalances also played a major role, go figure...)
