lulz, no they don't. elementalists do relatively little damage when you take recharge, cast time and enemy's armor level into account.
in my opinion warlocks are more like necromancers, but my experience with WoW is fairly limited due to me not paying them any more.

Here's a link to the wiki Professions page; check out the Mesmer, Necro and Ele pages and take a look at their skills.

I have limited xp with WoW but If I remember Warlocks are single target DPSish buys, assassin, while not casters, are fairly close to that.
Xx Da Best Xx
Warlocks I think had pets...And a bunch of curse type spells. Id have to say either go Mesmer or Necro. Necro is probably easier to use in PvE. But they are both very fun classes to use, and are somewhat similar.

I'd say Mesmer.
With Clumsiness, Visions of Regret, Cry of Pain, Empathy, and a whole variety of other skills, things simply go boom, and implode into 103 gold that's split for your party.
Mesmer use hexes and have a great offense, as well as making REALLY great use of the secondary profession, like the Me/E fast caster, or the Me/A Upier's erotic AP CoP build.
Mesmers are masters of energy management, and punishing the enemy. Why, it is even funny to play.
Empathy is a low costing, low recharge skill that deals approximately 50 ARMOR IGNORING damage to the hexed target every time it attacks. A target attacks nearly once every second, so within 3 seconds you should have about 150 damage done to an enemy from simply that skill. Chaining it up with cry of pain, which not only is a mob-wide interrupt, but deals insane damage if target foe is hexed with a mesmer skill, just plain makes it overpowered.
You also have signet of Illusions, allowing you to use ANY SPELL to use your illusion attribute. Meaning you can have the damage an ele has with fire spells. You can also use some pve skills to their max potential, without need of grind.
Did I mention mesmers are HUGE demand in high-end areas?

id say necro/ranger, have a pet like a warlock. warlock sucks ne way haha, i liked the mages, paladins, what else was coo.. um preists was one right? yeh WoW is an ok game, too complicating though. Weak pvp. GW ftw

Destro - Air Ele (single target spike damage)
Affliction - Mesmer or Necromancer. Mesmer shuts down, Necro is heavy degen. Mesmer can double up as a fast cast ele which allows the most flexibility, and the only thing necros provide is nice energy regen.
Demonology is up for discussion, the closest would be beast mastery ranger, but they also use dots and direct damage, so I couldn't give you an honest class with similarities.
For flexibilities sake, I would say go mesmer and pick up all the elementalist and necro skills for your secondaries.

Stealth Bomberman
i played warlock in WoW too for a good bit. have to say necro is closet thing they come too, but to my surprise they have alot of differences. necros, no pets(except minions), no self heals(thanx to gwen, hexers vigor), but they have good dps/life draining which i like alot.
mesmers are close second, but mes cant use minions, or STEAL life.
pretty much everything else mes and necro are similar. in a 1v1 battle tho necro would dominate mes (soul leech), unless mes went noobway and use hexbreaker then necro could go arcane echo...ok im ranting lol necro is better imo

Shadow-Hunter
Well i guess all in all Necromancers are the closest compareson to Warlocks.
Lore wise they equal pretty good: They're both supposed to appear as these kinda evil classes. Warlocks summon demons and use curses, necros summon the dead and use curses aswell.
Spell wise I would say necromancer are somewhat close aswell. Both are really great with mana / energy effency ( necros through soul reaping, Warlocks through Life tap and similar). Both classes got life stealing abilitys, ability(s) related to sacrificing health, got hexes with various effects (both got damage over time hexes).
Sure they aint 100% alike, and you wont run with a pet along your side unless you run a deticated minion build, which have several undead servants compared to the Warlocks one strong pet, which is vital in every build you make one way or another.
Anyway, the mesmer also have abilitys that have warlock'like style. They also have DoT (degen) hexes, aswell as several enchant removeal and interupt abilitys (like a Felhunters Devour Magic / spell lock), aswell as energy draining abilitys. Though the mesmer is based alot more un shutting down enemys with his abilitys, which isnt really something that Warlocks do (tho mesmers is are an awesome class tho!).
Anyway, Necros and mesmers are the prolly the most warlock'like classes there is, unless you want to play with Direct damage like a destruction Warlock, in which case an enementalist, but they dont have much in common with Warlocks other than both of em using direct damage (and in GW single target direct damage is argueable better on melee classes).
Anyway, I wont go much into what classes being the best, because that depend on the situation, and all that kind of stuff'.

Wait, are people suggesting Necro does damage?
....wat?
....wat?
Rhamia Darigaz
people who's "mains" are necros generally like to think they're the kings of dmg in hm. probably stuck in the caster=dmg mindset but herd eles cant do big domage so they think necro=armor ignoring=hm go boom amitrite? imo necros should gb2 the kitchen from which they spam orders and barbs and buff warriors.
